I like to watch the news. I like to keep up on current events so I know what my fellowman around the world is struggling with and needs to overcome for greater freedom and opportunity to grow.

But the news can often be depressing, at least the way most media programs present it. All the reports of conflict, war, strife, pestilence, death and disaster can overwhelm the sensibilities and create a feeling of constant doom.

One day, after listening to a favorite news program on TV, but not liking the heaviness I felt afterward from its emphasis on evil, I decided I needed to listen to a different program. But I couldn’t think of any on TV that were better. Then I asked, “What is the most important news of all? Is it reports of evil coming through the physical senses, or reports of good coming through the spiritual senses?”

Aw, I thought. I need to tune into my G-O-D channel and hear about what is happening in the realm of spiritual reality.

Too much of what I hear in the media is reporting of unreality—the maneuvering of evil for claim to power and supremacy over mankind. And it needs to be checked with a deeper understanding of spiritual reality where God reigns supreme and evil is wiped out. To hear the good news of God in control, though, one needs to listen spiritually.

So, I mentally changed channels from seeking truth through the physical senses to seeking truth through my spiritual senses. I tuned into my G-O-D channel through prayer. And it helped!

I need to get better at this. The physical testimony hammers away from all directions, but it is not the ultimate authority on reality. Truth is the ultimate authority, and Truth is discerned through quiet prayer and listening to the divine Mind. What we hear from God is the most important news of all!

With the impending birth of Jesus Christ, an angel from God proclaimed to the waiting shepherds, “Don’t be afraid!…I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.” Luke 2:10, NLT. Christ is born. Christ is here! Humanity has the helps it needs to conquer the ills of the world.

Don’t let the dark news of mortal mind get you down. Tune into your G-O-D channel and find out what is happening in the realm of reality. Bring that news back to earth and be a positive influence for good.
