Wait on God, not on time

What does it mean to “Wait on God?” is a question people often ask. And I love to answer the query because it gives me a chance to differentiate between waiting on God and waiting on time.

To “wait on God,” does not mean to wait around on time. It’s not about being patient with God while minutes, hours and days pass with nothing happening that is positive and progressive. Waiting on God has nothing to do with waiting on time. Waiting on time is something the human mind does in its error or belief of lack.

Waiting on God is an activity of spiritual sense where there is an active conscious and clear cut understanding that all of God’s good is here and now. It’s an understanding that time does not have to pass before one can feel whole and complete. All of God’s good is here and now! There is no waiting of time involved to experience the fullness of God’s love and care.

To wait on God, means to wake up and see what you already have. It doesn’t require the passing of days to do this. If one is humble enough, it can happen instantly.

Jesus said, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him” Matthew 6:8, NRSV. And because God is Love you can be assured that whatever you truly need has already been granted before you ask. The purpose of prayer is to open up thought and receive.

So, waiting on God is a good thing. It means you know your supply is coming from God, you are looking to God for it, and you are finding it—in the moment you are in. But never confuse waiting on time with waiting on God. You don’t need to wait on time to wait on God.

Yes, time may seem to pass while God’s plan is working out, but God’s plan is always perfect in the moment you’re in. You will not feel lack while the full plan is being revealed. You will have everything you need each step of the way. You will not be thinking, “Tomorrow will be better,” because you will already be experiencing the best today.

To wait on God is to accept the reality that all of God’s goodness is here and now in just the perfect form to ensure all is well with you. And that will be the case to your sense of things—if you’re waiting on God, and not waiting on time.

  1. Evan, many thanks for sharing your spiritual insights with us. Your blogs often contain purposeful messages that come at the right time to many of your readers.

I have to make a decision about moving homes, your message today has helped me to keep things in perspective. Thanks! (I have watched your video where you shared your experience of finding a suitable home for you and your family and have been blessed by this message.)

‘The purpose of prayer is to open up thought and receive.’ I love this sentence you wrote and it is worth meditating on!

  2. It is amazing what your blog contains each day. One almost feels he has to ask “how can you do this?” It is obvious to know that it is God’s work. What a blessing it and you are. Thank you Evan.

  3. I too continue to be grateful for your blog Evan.
Thank you for your comments Bob and Craig. All of this is God’s work and the blessings are joyful. Time for a glorious walk in nature.

  4. I too, don’t always leave a comment, but daily find a nugget that helps my perspective. It is one of my “go to” emails daily. Thank you Evan.
My spiritual supply is constantly coming from God and is demonstrated humanly. I just have to keep reminding myself.

  5. ‘The purpose of prayer is to open up thought and receive.’ Great subject for a new blog, Evan! Love that comment too! Thank you ever so much….

  6. Wonderful blog. I’m going to run today, hand in hand with God, and know that all the good I need is already here. Thank you so much!

  7. Thank you for your blog. This is so true. We can never be separated from God and his/her supply and love.

  8. Time being a pure mortal measurement has nothing to do with God for it evolves limitation
Waiting on God presents the reality of unlimited bliss where limitation doesn’t exist
Now that’s true gratification to be thankful for

  9. Thank you, Evan! I never really understood this before……I thought that “waiting on God” meant nervously tapping my foot and saying, “Come On, Hurry Up, God!” I have noticed of late that one of the false beliefs that I often entertain is: “Life has to be Hard and Effortful….that nothing will happen unless I work REALLY Hard.” Hmmmmm…..I think what you’re saying here is that God’s Good is already happening and my only job is to open up to receive it! Amazing, Amazing Grace!!

  10. Thanks again, Evan, for a very insightful message illuminating that waiting on God is just waking up to what is already present in our experience.

  11. Evan, thanks so much for this wonderful post.

I just thought I’d share an interesting insight I gained when thinking about this idea of waiting on God. We can also think of waiting on someone as serving them, as a waiter in a restaurant would serve a guest. So I love the idea that to “wait on God” can also mean to serve Him! And when we’re doing that, we’re automatically filling every moment with good.

Thanks again for all of the good you share with us everyday. Every morning I look forward to reading your new articles, postings, etc!

  12. Hi Evan, as all have expressed above this is wonderful and so in line with what I m dealing with. I am exchaing dwellings. I might tend to become impatient, and this keeps me in line with God’s plan , not Merri’s plan. I am searching now for that video mentioned about you finding a home. It must be on this blog right here, as this is already where all the good is!!! God is!!! NOW! thank you for your dedication and love and clarity and willingness to share. –Blessings to you all, with gratitude, Merri

    1. The video where Evan talks about his home can be found on this website.

If you are still looking, I am sure it is either on “Living in abundance” or “Are you ready to flourish”.

  14. Thank you, Evan, for this uplifting message. After reading it I went to the hymn book.

Hymn number 9 tells us :

O longing hearts that wait on God
    Through all the world so wide;
He knows the angels that you need,
And sends them to your side,
    To comfort, guard and guide.

  15. There are a couple of definitions of ‘wait’ from the American Heritage Dictionary that have been helpful to me and I hope they might add some more inspiration to Evans excellent post.

Wait: To remain or rest in expectation; depend on (=
