Gain from the struggle

“The struggle for Truth makes one strong instead of weak, resting instead of wearying one.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 426

Don’t fear a struggle! There is a blessing to gain from successfully facing the error that argues for your attention and the truth that sets you free.

Some people run from struggles wanting to take the “easy way out.” But there is no “easy way.” If the struggle is not resolved, it will follow you until it is fairly faced and dealt with.

So, face it fearlessly today and find resolution! Truth always wins and error always loses. Side with the winning side, learn the lesson that is there to bless you, and move on a better person for the experience.

  1. Daily thanks for your sharing on SpiritView, as well as for your sharing on this week’s Sentinel Watch podcast. My gratitude for all the healing prayer and work, blessing all!

  2. Great Blog, Evan. I realized from the learning opportunities of my youth that you cannot run so far as to get away from yourself.

  3. Good morning, Evan. Your reflection for today is very interesting. Very good to bring it to debate. Thinking about it came to light what Mrs. Eddy said in Science and Health in the Preface about the hard and persistent work that must be done to UNDERSTAND Science and its NEW IDEA. In the Preface it says “A book introduces new thoughts, but it can not make them quickly understood.” It is the task of the sturdy pioneer to tear down the tall oak and cut the rough granite. Clear is this. After the fight is the prize. Thanks and Blessings and excellent week to all. FORCE IN GOD !!!!

  4. This wonderful uplifting thought from dear Evan has given me courage. Instead of “ducking” and fearing the physical problem, it is time to stand up with God at my side and be a winner. Thank you for this “foot in my back.” I know God is in control.

  5. At lease we know that while we are struggling we are praying. “The habitual striggle to be always good is unceasing prayer.” S &H 4:12.

  6. “Truth always wins and error always loses.” What comforting words of wisdom these are. Always leaves no room for error of any sort to succeed. Thanks, Evan, and all who have shared their inspirations.

  7. Thank you Evan. I’ve experienced more than once the types of “struggle” you’ve written about today and also the immense blessings that have come from the spiritual growth that resulted. This made me think of the following from Science and Health, pg 322:26:

The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science. Without this process of weaning, “Canst thou by searching find out God?”

I love the imagery of a child tired of trying a failing, trying and failing, until at last they reach out for their parent love to show them the way. Oh, isn’t the way so much easier when we reach out to Love first and then follow the direction we are given instead of trying to use human will and ignoring the love and guidance God is continually providing us? Sometimes the struggle is just being willing to be humble enough to listen for God’s angel messages. But as we learn in the story of the Prodigal son, the Father is always there loving us and waiting to embrace us as soon as we’re willing to seek His guidance. And any struggle that helps us to put off the idea we are separated from God and better understand God’s love for us is definitely worth the effort!

  8. What a wonderful message Evan – thank you! This makes me think of Jesus – how a person observing Jesus could look at all the struggles and think, “Wow, what a struggle that man had.” I like to think from Jesus’s perspective love just flowed out and he could not help himself from wanting to help others. That man could just give, give, give and never get tired. I think it would have been more painful to not give. The insight that Truth was going to win fueled him. Another man, Martin Luther King also fought and he knew the end result as well. The truth was all men are equal and he knew it. He knew that truth even if no one else around him did. It was so clear to him. He couldn’t ignore it.
Bruce Lee said “Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.” Make a difference in your life. It is worth the effort.

  9. And, I wanted to add, Mary Baker Eddy also saw the end result, the freedom from sin, sickness and death. On Science and Health page 226:22-24 she says “I saw before me the sick, wearing out years of servitude to an unreal master in the belief that the body governed them, rather than Mind.” And S&H page 226:26-29 “…I wished to save from the slavery of their own beliefs and from the educational systems of the Pharaohs, who to-day, as of yore, hold the children of Israel in bondage.”

  10. Thank you, this reminder is helping me today. God is always here to help guide his children and all we need to do is ask and listen for that still small voice. Thank you all for your comments too.
