Hold to the high goal

“The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it.”

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 426

“Are we there yet?” is a question parents with young children in tow often hear on long road trips.

If praying for a healing, we may be tempted to ask the same question by repeatedly checking the body to find signs of improvement. “Am I better yet?” is the equivalent of, “Are we there yet?”

On a road trip, constantly asking the question doesn’t speed up the journey, but can make it feel longer and more drawn out. It’s better to keep the destination clearly in mind and enjoy the trip along the way.

When praying, our effort is to understand God better. That’s the high goal. The better we keep the high goal in mind, the faster we get there. We don’t have to check the body to see how we’re doing. We can figure that out by keeping close watch on our thought. The closer to God we feel, and the more of God we understand, the sooner we arrive at our destination. The sooner a healing occurs.

  1. How do you know the exact message that I need on any particular day?! It’s amazing how often you have been the channel of inspiration for me that truly answers my prayer! Thank you!

  2. So good! Analogy of the kid in the car asking that question: Are we there yet….well, that made me smile! The body follows thought. Once the truth of what we are understanding becomes the focus, the “thing” bothering us begins to fade into the nothingness it always was. A recent healing (and people, it was a GOOD one) wrapped up when I did just this. Stopped checking the progress (or lack of progress) of matter, and just relaxed in God’s goodness and allness. I love this message, Evan. Short but packed with power. Thank you, friend.

  3. Thank you so much Evan, for today`s SpiritView. Its very needed.

Yes and my effort is to understand God better. And that is the highest goal.

When we understand God better we also do understand us, our oneness with God better.

I think that is a goal very worthwhile and leads to healing.

  4. Thanks, Evan, for just the thought I need. I may not think I am there yet, but in reality I am actually and always right there – complete, whole and perfect NOW!

  5. When I get frustrated I try to remember I am already there. That nothing has been touched nothing has come between God and his creation. It is my thought that has to move.

  6. Thank you Evan. To me, a physical healing is really a spiritual revealing. The big “I,” or pure consciousness, is always there, but we become aware of it when we let go of the little ‘i” or personal sense of self, which is primarily composed of habitual thought patterns, wanting and fearing. Our willingness to leave the old for the new can happen in an instant.

    1. Thank you Scott for your comment.

I love your last truth sentence. Actually the willingness to leave the old for the new comes directly from God. Thats all very comforting.

  7. I know You
    are here

    I know You
    slumber not

    I know You
    have always
    been here
    and always
    will be

    I pray never
    to forget
    the Source
    You are
    even of me

    I am looking
    for You
    in the place
    Thou dwellest

    Within

    Bless me
    with eyes
    that see thee,
    Mind that
    knows thee,
    Heart that
    receives thee

    I shall be
    ever mindful
    of the
    One Source
    One God
    One Life
    We have been
    blessed to
    partake of

    I feel
    all Glory
    All Power
    Is God’s
    as I see
    this one
    and only
    True reality
    True Presence
    within me
    within you
    within every being

  8. Oh, loved this! Keep close watch on thought (NOT the body). So simple, yet sometimes it seems hard to ignore mortal mind’s shouts. This has given me much courage. So succinct, so to the point. “Be a watchman at the door of thought.” Thank you, dear Evan and all above. Such wonderful words of love.

  9. A wonderful wake up call for me this morning to uplift my thought and keep it high. Thank you Evan and all for your comments.
