Reject death

August 30, 2017 | 26 comments

I have met many people through my practice who are in their nineties and still living active productive lives. They drive their own car, take care of their house, stay busy in their church and community and fully engage life as if they were twenty years younger.

One lesson I’ve learned from watching them, is that they haven’t accepted the common notion that one must deteriorate over time and lose health. They know God is their Life, and Life is ever full, strong, active, productive and worth living. And they live this truth.

It’s an observation that tells me the importance of rejecting death from an early age. If one accepts death as reality, that acceptance has a way of accepting health decline as inevitable too, and that’s not a pleasant path to walk.

Man, the child of God, is not a mortal that deteriorates and dies. Man is an immortal with a spiritual eternal life to live. And there’s no better place to understand and demonstrate this truth than now! When we leave this earth behind, we can leave it healthy.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight” Science and Health, p. 246.

It’s a critical question to ask, “What is forming your concept of life? Is it mortality or immortality?”

If mortality, then mortal mind outlines a trajectory of maturity, decay and decline. If immortality, divine Mind outlines a path of increased health, vigor, purpose and reason for being.

So, be wise and accept Life as your reality! Reject death as your destiny and commit to Life.

Decline is no part of God’s plan for you. God’s plan is for you to express Life to the fullest every moment of your existence. This is your divine purpose. And it’s a happy healthy path to walk.

  1. Thank you for this, Evan. This reminds me that when my mom passed away several years ago, I asked a practitioner for prayerful support, and she asked me, “has my mom, as a spiritual idea, gone anywhere?” The answer of course is know. Spiritual ideas are ageless. That did it for me and resolved how I think about her to this day.

  2. Wow. That’s terrific and so necessary in a human world so full of thoughts of aging and all the things we must face and deal with. Nonsense! We just don’t have to accept any of it. I love today’s blog so much. Many thanks, Evan, for all your wonderful and helpful thoughts.

    1. I agree… I don’t except it either
Now I’m learning to reject it
while not giving it any power by
      even acknowledging it…
      Nothing-ize is a good term

You have brought up a great point
      Thank you

  3. As I think on this blog, I realize more that each move we make, each good thought we have is from our Father-Mother. Ideas are forever unfolding in that spiritual loveliness called Life. I am grateful. Thank you for the reminder that reminded me that the seagull flying out of sight is still where he is – in divine Mind.

  4. Thank you, Evan, for this vital spiritual reminder. It alerts me to the importance of immediately and consistently rejecting the myriad suggestions (lies) of age and deterioration in their many guises and consistently and persistently affirming and accepting the truths of Life’s immortality with all – now! Abiding gratitude for the profound gift of CS and for your many healing contributions to Church, blessing all!

  5. Thanks Evan, and to follow up on one of the replies, when my mother passed away, our minister asked me, if a woman weighed 150 lbs right before death, how much would she weigh immediately after death? I thought about it for a few minutes and replied, 150 lbs., The minister said, the body may weigh 150 lbs, but “your mother is spirit, and spirit is weightless, and she will always be with you”. She has been dead for 25 years, but it is comforting to know she is always with me. Ahhh.

  6. What a great thought to start off my day, this 76 year of age (not old) observes.: Decline is not part of God’s plan for [me]. Thanks, Evan.

  7. It reminds me of “for as he (a man) thinketh in his heart, so is he” Proverbs 23:7 (KJV).
Trudi and John, helpful comments for me today, and as always, thanks Evan for your tireless work on this blog touching the world daily.

  8. We have more effect
    On the world
    Than the world has
    On us

To say “I am a Child of God”
    Is the beginning of a
    Journey to full spiritual maturity
    The child grows in
    Awareness to the realization
    Of their true identity,
    One with God

    This identity affects the world
    around IT
    This identity is the cause
    of all activity
    This identity is Pure Love
    for all Life and Being
    This identity provides
for all needs for IT knows
    not lack of any kind
    Knowing only Goodness
    Harmony and Peace,
    This identity blesses the
    World and all who come
    in contact with it

Each one, in their unique way,
Will come to claim these truths
    as their rightful own
    Each one shall be lifted
    into the power and Glory
    of knowing who they
    Truly are…

    This child of God
    has now become
    a cause… a creative impulse…
    a Life lived from the
    Inside out,
    Not the outside in…

  9. Dear Evan, thank you for today’s gift to one and all. Yes, tomorrow I expect to neither add nor subtract, but enjoy your aforementioned number, as I do all numbers, heretofore, as being forever fixed in their right place at all times for all equations. As simple as 2 + 2 = 4. Or when placed in more complex equations that yet are unknown to me. The circular number is the Infinite (not ever to be unknown) and is properly placed and shown (understood) when needed; all other named numbers are composed of ones as their reflections are properly seen (revealed).

  10. Thank you Evan for today’s timely SpiritView. A book I just read suggested the necessity of teaching children about death. This I strongly rejected, but what did I believe? Looking back through my life I realized that my mom always turned me towards Life. She shared many healings demonstrating the allness of Life. Through prayer my canary proved Life to be continuous, even after a death experience. She shared how friends stayed on the mountain, not entering the valley of death, after the passing of a loved one. So many beautiful examples of her friends demonstrations of Life. And lately spending much time pondering God is Life. And Life is the law of my being. Thank you all for affirmations of these trues. I cherish each of them.

  11. So many readers, this is an active thought indeed.

We live in a tiny village high in Swiss Alps.

We see young people, then their babies, become: children, students, and then adults. Vigorous hikers and climbers of all ages. Smiling, happy really old people.

When I meet the most helpful, happy people, their thoughts are consistent with what is expressed in these Spirit Views, Comments, Daily Lifts and all.

Stepping off a mountain trail for a hiker, I tipped backwards over a large bolder. I could not quickly get up and felt much too weak. The hiker quickly pulled me up. From village news I learned he was over ninety years old.

Thoughts and beliefs are important. Thank you all for your helpful and inspiring comments.

  12. Evan, like Judith said, “what a great thought to start off my day. This 81st year of age (not old) observes.: Decline is not part of God’s plan for me.” John thank you for your comment, especially part re weightless.

  13. Thanks. I too prefer to think about God’s plan for my life. Sometimes it is difficult when aches and pains intrude to see and feel the Truth. But we must fight the good fight as it is what God expects us to do

  14. So many wonderful comments and experiences make me ashamed for not being more alert to denying the claims of age. Memo to myself: must do better!! Thank you Evan. Thank you everyone. X

  15. All I can say is WOW! All comments so appreciated in response to this wonderful blog! Thank you Evan & all .
Something that I have duly noted & will do my best to learn from.

  16. Thank you so much, dear Evan for this big important theme. What a loving and very distinct and clear lesson you give us again today! Love this quote from Science and Health.

First I did not know what I could contribute to it.
But meanwhile I know because I awoke from a nasty dream. This time I stayed calm and cleared my thinking that that has not at all to do anything with me. A dream is a dream and not real. It cannot touch me because I am not a mortal but a spiritual man created by God having my being in Him, who is Spirit.
And as God is also Infinity and Omnipresence, time and space are no factors in divine Mind.
The Bible also makes clear symbolicly, that for God “thousand years are as o n e day …”. That means, as we all know, that there is no time but endless life in divine Mind. That again means that there is no aging for God`s precious whole creation and consequently no death, only endless wonderful joyful life.
Yes, we have to prove that; but thanks to God, the Christ teaches us how to do that

How grateful can we be for Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy and consequently for Christian Science.

Also I thank you all for your wonderful and inspiring comments, love you all. 🙂

  17. Hi, I am a bit exited, what does it mean “your comment is awaiting moderation”?
When I look up the word moderation in German, it looks, as if there is something I was not allowed to mention in my comment.
    Could that be cleared please?
