Delete unhealthy mental images

October 23, 2017 | 15 comments

Have you ever had an ugly mental image land in your thinking and seem to stick, demanding attention? It could be a picture of disease viewed on TV or seen on the internet, a person suffering you passed on the street, or descriptions of disease you heard in the past. Whatever the source seems to be, you are not helpless to do something about the negative picture. You can delete it from your thinking and see it replaced with spiritual truth.

Jesus gave his followers “power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils” Mark 3:15. A diseased or deformed mental image is a type of “devil,” or evil belief that would deny God’s perfect creation. It is not to be harbored, analyzed or feared, but to be cast out and seen as unreal. Christ gives each of us spiritual power to cast out evil images and welcome in beautiful views of spiritual truth.

The Mind of Christ is filled with images of grace, love, truth, health, joy and beauty. There is no room, space or place in the Mind of Christ for material images of mortal mind. They do not reside there or have any effect. They are not feared, entertained, or acknowledged.

As a child of God, you reflect the Mind of God, the same Mind of Christ that Jesus did. It is natural and normal for you to know what God knows, to see what God sees, and nothing less.

Anytime an image of error appears in front of your mental view, cast it out. Delete it from your attention and know what is spiritually true in its place.

Like you keep your computer hard drive clean of any unwanted digital content by using the DELETE button liberally, you can keep your mental hard drive clean from unwanted mortal mind content. Use the DELETE button generously, and stay in the same healthy state of Mind Jesus did. You’ll like it much better there!

  1. Perfect with this weeks lesson. We are the redeemed of the lord and God cannot be both Good and evil. Thank you Evan for this supportive post.

  2. That was right on target for me. As I deal with distractions of an idea of a disease for myself or my dog’s situation, I sit on the delete button daily!

  3. I found this so helpful for reversing the supposed effect of accident too. Recently I slipped on a wet surface. The first thing that came to me was that I could never fall out of God’s care. Then Mrs. Eddy’s wise counsel on page 397:12 “When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, “I am hurt!” Your thought is more powerful than your words, more powerful than the accident itself, to make the injury real. Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why…” I held fast to these truths and others that came to me from the Bible and Science and Health. The next day the lovely thought came to me of me falling but God’s arms swooped me up and I never hit the floor. This replaced the original mental image of the fall. The healing was complete. So, as Evan stated “you are not helpless to do something about the negative picture. You can delete it from your thinking and see it replaced with spiritual truth.” That’s how I found healing. (=

  4. Dearest Stephen,

Take it in, every word, just as I have. Only healing thoughts can come to us, as we are obedient.

    Love,

    EC

  5. Thanks Evan ! I am working to do this more consistently.
Is there a way to make the print size bigger for your blog? I’ve tried the stretch motion on the screen using two fingers. Also looked for the different size fonts button but haven’t been able to enlarge it. Any suggestions?? Thanks again

  6. LYN if you click on the green print button just below the blog, a print window pops up and it has near the top an option for TEXT SIZE. If you press the down arrow you’ll get an option to increase the text up to 130%. Hope that helps.

  7. Evan, thanks so much for this post! I needed the encouragement to “delete” some false pictures! I will replace them with the true pictures from Mind. “Correct material beliefs by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew.” S&H 425:24-26) Mahalo!

  8. I especially like this sentence …
“Anytime an image of error appears in front of your mental view, cast it out. Delete it from your attention and know what is spiritually true in its place.” Knowing what is true IN ITS PLACE is essential. Just mentally ignoring a situation or error image doesn’t necessarily help…that is just sweeping it under the carpet. We must be proactive in replacing the error with its corresponding neutralising TRUTH.

This can be very difficult when stuck at a dinner table with a group of people whose main topic of conversation is illness and allergies though! Evan i would love a tip on how to do this as it happens to me with my family in law often!
