“Best advice to a dieter—no thyself.”

~ Unknown

Or better yet, pray to know your true spiritual self which is already filled with dominion and authority to stay healthy and fit.

  1. Hi Evan,
shouldn`t the “best advice to a dieter be “know thyself”?
As a Germany I cannot see a sense in “no thyself”.
or if today`s vers is right, could it please be explained to me?

Thank you Evan, for your inspiring sentence of absolute truth in which you use the word “know” your true spiritual self, which is very helpful to pray with it today! 😉

    1. Dear Uta, does ‘no thyself’ maybe mean that there is no human self? God is the great I AM and there is none beside him… no little self with a separate mind…
That is how I understand it – thank you for this, Evan. I love it! 🙂

      1. I take “no thyself” as simply saying no to the material senses when over indulgence tempts. Just say NO.
        Keep it simple and balanced.

        1. Or, no self indulgence, self love, self justification, self importance, self focus, self-will.

Interesting part of translation of mortal mind in Science and Health:

“Physical. Evil beliefs, passions and appetites, fear, depraved will, self justification, pride, envy, deceit, hatred …”

“Self Love is more opaque than a solid body.”

“Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.” S&H MBE

Spiritual truth counter to mortal belief -spiritual identification, self- completeness, finding all in God, good.

  2. Hi Uta…the saying “Best advice to a dieter…no thyself” means to me that the best diet is to say “no” to ourselves for foods we don’t need to eat or overeat. Evan is taking it further to “know” ourselves as God’s true image and likeness.

  3. Hello Uta!

The word is used as a “wortspiel” … meaning “say no to yourself” when you are tempted to eat.

Hope that helps and makes you smile!

  4. Hi, dear SpiritView friends, Shireen, Jennifer and Beatrice –

all your explanations make me smile very bright – and such extensive possibilities of meaning – thank you awfully –

thats the right food for today – to all a lovely day full of spiritual Food! 😉

    1. thank you also Maryloo and Annepat for your simple and clear Christian Scientific explanation – am very glad for a l l your comments! 🙂

    2. Annepat, I like your interpretation. Food is just another false belief (golden idol) that in the end doesn’t satisfy – that is why one may be tempted to keep eating (or grabbing onto more false beliefs) instead of feeling full. You can have everything (in sense) and have nothing but you can have nothing (of sense) and have everything. When you take thought away from food (or false belief), other possibilities open up that can satisfy. You can share a cracker with someone you love and be filled just as water can be turned into wine.

  5. I think that the quote – from an “unknown” source, is not meant to offer a CS outlook, but just a humorous way to introduce the subject. Human knowledge says we have to say no to food to diet. Evan says, “Better yet” – “know your true spiritual self.,” etc.
For me, that is the “advice” that Evan is suggesting – to know we already have dominion and the ability to express healthy living from God.

  6. There is a great testimony on weight loss on page 38 of the Jan. 2018 Journal. I couldn’t figure out how to share a link, but you could find it at jsh-online or in a reading room.

    1. Thanks for that! Wonderful testimony about sticking with the Truth no matter how long standing a problem seems to be.

    2. Thank you Bud and Linda for your kind comments about my weight loss testimony in the January Journal. It might interest you to know that it first appeared in a shorter form right here on SpiritView on Dec. 27, 2016. Evan’s blog that day was entitled To Cling Steadfastly. I had so much positive feedback and comments encouraging me to have it to have it published in the periodicals that I decided to do so. So thank you Evan and all that comment for the wonderful support you always give.

      1. Thank you so much, Karen, Your testimony is so good, and is really helpful to me! I am so grateful you got it written up and published – and it is very well written and has given me much fresh inspiration.
And Evan – how can we thank you enough for this amazing forum for daily growth. Gratitude and love to all!

  7. I remember listening to one of Evan’s talks (on this site, but can’t recall which video) where he shared how he had weight issues. He shared how he found healing through a change of thought that resulted in losing the excess weight.

It would be great to know which video it’s on and/or share on this blog as I am sure there are many of us who could benefit from Evan’s experience.

    1. Craig, I know which lecture of Evan you mean, and I myself watched it.
Its title is “are you flourishing?” and I could watch it in the internet.
I looked for it later but cannot anymore find it as online lecture. I would also like to watch that lecture again. There are so good thoughts in it, Evan had while demonstrating that issue.

      1. That sounds right. I will listen to it again. I think this is the same talk where Evan shared a wonderful experience of God’s provision when buying a house. Uta, thanks for letting me know the title!

        1. Craig, if you find that lecture online, could you please give us a link here, that we can watch it too? thanks a lot in advance 🙂

          1. Uta, I have looked for the lecture but haven’t found it as yet. I am sure it is ‘somewhere’! I have sent a message to Evan asking him if it is possible if he can make it available to those who would like to listen to it again.

  8. If you read in S&H on page 120 from line 17 to 24, you might find this confirms today’s blog.

For ease of reference, you can find it in tomorrow’s reading of the weekly lesson. Page 60 in the full-text edition.

  9. I’d like to share a testimony on this subject. I had gained some weight with my first baby, and when I became pregnant with my second I knew I didn’t want to gain anything more, and I wanted it corrected. I decided that I would let divine Mind be the only mind I would listen to for “The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness.” (S&H 151:23-24) I didn’t think about what I could or could not eat. The funniest experience I had during this time was when I made some brownies for my husband. I didn’t even want any! I used to be kidded that my middle was “chocolate,” but God had removed that “passion” for chocolate from me. I became the weight I should be with no difficulties at all. I need to do that again! 🙂 Thanks for reminding me!

  10. I have said no to cheeseburgers, Hot dogs and brownies this month and I plan to keep saying no. I have lost 10 lbs. I am also affirming that I am loved, lovable and satisfied.

  11. Hi Kirsten,

thank you so much for the link you sent today for Evan`s lecture “are you flourishing”
    the link works perfectly.

Everybody should watch that lecture – simply wonderful!

Thank you Evan for that lecture. The most important lesson I took out of it was, that if you need or want something, transform that thing into an idea, an idea of Mind, and from that spiritual perspective you can work that out what you need.

      1. Craig,

        I am happy to help. 🙂 I really enjoyed that lecture (thank you Uta for remembering the name) and there is another one I listened to right after Evan’s by Jon Benson, CS titled “Step Out of Your Story into Healing” if you are interested;

It is a little over 23 minutes.

        Kirsten

  12. Wow, what an interesting blog and comments today!

Uta, in response to your last comment, this quote comes to thought “work out the spiritual which determines the outward and actual.” from Science and Health p. 254:22 (=

When I can’t seem to quench my hunger I head for my books The Bible and Science and Health…they always satisfy

    1. Thank you Rhonda, yes very suitable that truth sentence from SH 254:22 😉

If there is a problem with my eating, it is the wanting of sweets and chocolate, ha,ha – but I think we can have dominion over that apetite through prayer, as Evan says, as well. 😉

      1. Hi dear Karen,

such a wonderful very inspiring testimony – thank you so much for your testimony in the january Journal.

I could not sleep and instead of turning round and round I just read your testimony and am very grateful that I have read it.
It was very good that you decided to have it published in such an extensive form in the Journal. It is so important to tell about the healing and how you worked it out, first to praise God and second to bless others with it.

I stand in awe before your wonderful healing experience – thank you! 🙂

  13. I located a past article that I hope you will enjoy. Also check out the list of other articles that I am sure you will find interesting and uplifting.

    Love
