Learning to trust God with your whole heart

October 10, 2019 | 19 comments

When thinking about the need to let go of personal outlining to trust God’s plan, I found the following quote illuminating.

“Trust is letting go of needing to know all the details before you open your
heart.”

~ Author unknown

Too often, we think we need to outline an outcome when praying to God for help. When the wiser way is to trust that God’s plan is infinitely better than anything we plan.

As we put trust in self aside, and trust the divine Mind, that better plan unfolds. The better outcome follows, and we see that we didn’t need to know all the details ahead of time.

  1. So no more deadlines for my practitioner, then. My mistake.
    God knows best, I will pray for a better understanding of God’s complete love for me.

  2. So true, so necessary, and sometimes feels so hard. But yielding totally to Father-Mother God’s will has always brought great blessings to me and to others, even in complicated, sensitive situations. God’s timing is always the best timing.

  3. Gratitude. Thy will be done. Thank you for this letting go of earthly plannings. Starting the day with the lesson and then prayer to be led for the betterment of all those in my experience. Focusing on Love leading the way today.

  4. Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not into thine own understanding. In all thy ways a knowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths (proverbs 3 :5-6). He shall lead us down the path of righteousness for His name sake (psalm23). His name or nature is good. We can trust that His way is good.

  5. We should have faith that there is no hate in love, no error in truth, no evil in good and no death in life. Our founder realized this fact that Jesus demonstrated many times 2000 years ago for which I express my gratitude. For this I am certain over a human world of uncertainty.

  6. One of the hardest lessons to be learned…”Thy will be done…”. This is a directive I’ve had to demonstrate over & over. Just when I think I’m ready to cling to it, I have to listen again & again. Ty, Evan & early morning friends. Another blessed day to listen to God, not self-will.

  7. I found this lovely poem the other day, and thought it might be appropriate to share:-

    THY WILL BE DONE
    MARGARET A. MARTIN.
    From the March 1910 issue of The Christian Science Journal

    “Thy will be done”! Not as of old we pray
    This prayer of Jesus for ourselves today;
    With fuller knowledge of the truth we say,
       “Thy will be done!”

    In earlier years our foolish blindness deemed
    That we, than Thou, far kindlier purpose dreamed;
    A tearful thing to say, and hard, it seemed,
       “Thy will be done!”

    But now naught lovelier than Thy will we know;
    Forth from Thy will to all Thy children go
    All good and perfect gifts in ceaseless flow.
       Thy will be done!

    What is Thy will for me today? I raise
    Glad, trustful eyes, and heart outbreaks in praise,
    For good are all Thy thoughts, good all Thy ways!
       Thy will be done!

    For me Thou willest no slightest touch of pain;
    No sickness, weakness, no transmitted stain;
    No disability, defect, nor strain:
       Thy will be done!

    Within Thy will for me can be no trace
    Of doubt, dejection, failure, or disgrace;
    Nor sense of lack, or discord, find a place.
       Thy will be done!

    Thou in Thyself art peace: and Thou dost will
    Peace to my soul; and by the waters still
    Dost lead me, guarding me from every ill.
       Thy will be done!

    And Thou art Love: so Thou dost will for me
    A loving heart, from mortal self set free.
    Childlike and pure, to love both Thine and Thee.
       Thy will be done!

    Wisdom art Thou, and strength; Thou will’st me power
    To meet the needs and deeds of every hour:
    When fears assail I claim this glorious dower.
       Thy will be done!

    And Thou art joy: and willest here on earth
    Thy children joy, and happy homes, and mirth;—
    Not care nor trouble, penury nor dearth.
       Thy will be done!

    Foresight is thine, and punctual providence;
    Thou willest me an ever-present sense
    Of Thine omniscience and omnipotence.
       Thy will be done!

    Infinite tenderness art Thou: no dart
    Of grief, or wounding, poignant to the heart.
    But knowledge of Thy will destroys its smart.
       Thy will be done!

    Thy will be done! with humblest love we say it:
    Thy will be done! with perfect trust we pray it;
    Thy will be done! Joy! nothing can gainsay it.
       Thy will be done!

    Naught can o’erride Thy will! Infinity
    Art Thou, great All-in-all: nor can there be
    One single power or law apart from Thee!
       Thy will is done.

    Rejoice, my heart, exult! Naught can remove
    Thy foot from this sure Rock. Now, hourly prove
    Through all thy days God’s changeless, limitless love.
       God’s will be done!

  8. Wonderful thoughts, Evan and all!! Thank you so much for sharing! This is from a devotional by Corrie ten Boom titled “Each New Day” — “Lord, make me willing to be made willing to do Your will.”

  9. Here is a poem that I begin my morning prayers with:
    Morning start-up
    by Kardyne Flad Steacy
    (Sentinel, December 8, 1997)

    Praying to God each morning
    And listening for His plan
    We’ll hear His angel messages
    Before we talk with man.

    Acknowledging His power
    And ever-present Love
    We’ll feel His care surrounding us
    “Beneath, around, above.”*

    Trusting God to guide us
    In everything we do
    With joy we’ll start each morning
    By knowing what is true.
    *Hymn 53
    [Genesis 1 not 2]

  10. Thank you, Evan for another wonderful and so important SpiritView. We need to trust God unconditionally in order to be really healthy, happy and spiritually productive as God’s able child!
    Just now I remember the important question by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health on page 9 which says: “Dost thou love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind? This command includes much, even the surrender of all merely material sensation, affection ans worship.” This means for me what Evan said, to put all trust in self aside and trust the divine Mind unconditionally, that the most perfect plan unfolds. Am working prayerfully on let go and let God!
    Thank you all for your inspiring comments and specially the poems on today’s topic .

    What a lovely foto

  11. Thank you Evan for this post, and thank you all for your wonderful comments, Lisa, Maggie, Carolyne, and Lori, and everyone! There is much food for thought in every contribution.

  12. ONENESS

    “The anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but even as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye abide in Him.” 1 John 2

  13. Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem and the comments are beautiful too read ,!
    God’s Blessing for you all.

  14. Thank you so much for this statement, “Learning to trust God with your whole heart” – I always need to remember that! And I really like Proverbs 3:5-6

  15. Thank You Evan and all, Thy Will be done came to me one day when I prayed/enable me to know deeper what this means, and the voice said “Let Me(Spirit) love you more than you know”. Wow!! what is that I ask, it is the Christ voice speaking to me and that knowing/feeling is now forever inscribed in my consciousness. This Love includes every quality (like faith and trust) I need to know what Love (God) is always with me.
