Let go of the old to make room for the new

“You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present.”

~ Jan Glidewell

The very best is always in the now, with God. It’s never in the past, or in the future. God’s good is here and now.

Let go of the past. Have no fear of the future. Enjoy God’s goodness now.

  1. Thank you for this, Evan. I am letting go of the old beliefs about myself, and turning to the light of a new day dawning, a day full of goodness and love.

    1. I am too. These daily messages and comments are a huge help. Stared new job 2 months ago; trying to get pass some old negative tapes in my head. Hard some times as my dear late husband isn’t here for that boost of confidence! So grateful he introduced me to CD years ago and to you Evan! I love reading viewer comments, they are so encouraging.

      1. When contemplating human relationships/marriage Evan once told me, “you are already married to the greatest man on Earth!” Wow, what an interesting thing to think about.

  2. Oh, I looooove this wonderful reminder!! Just think of the earthly weights dropped when you open up your arms and your embrace is around only the Love-filllled now.

  3. Just what I needed this morning, Evan. Thank you! When misunderstandings and experiences from the past leave us empty and hurt, and we are physically unable to explain or correct these misunderstandings, “the seeming vacuum is already filled with divine Love….even if we cling to a sense of personal joys, spiritual Love will force you to accept what best promotes your growth.” (S&H 266:6-19). I am so grateful these Principles are always there for us to turn to when we need them the most.

  4. Thank you! I needed this as I get caught too easily in the past. But having a little child close by helps keep you looking towards the future! But that’s where we should be. Actually in the present enjoying the now in the world around us ! I’m happier enjoying every moment!

  5. Thank you,Evan, for this reminder to let go of past memories to make room for present good..and so good to hear all of the comments!

  6. The Glidewell-verse is so right and yet funny, thanks Evan!
And most grateful I am for your wonderfully comforting truth sentences!
“This is the day which God has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

  7. Wonderful Topic, Evan! Thank You! One of these things I’ve found that helps me to Let Go of the Past is to Talk about it with a loving, empathetic, compassionate person. So often Breaking our Silence helps to overcome the Shame and allows us to transform our Past. Love to All!

  8. The quote reminds me of one of our hymns which encourages “all the good the past hath had, remains to make our own time glad”.

  9. Thanks so much. Ms. Eddy tell us that only the good is real and eternal. I love what she says in her definition of YEAR: “Eternity is God’s measurement of Soul-filled years.” (S&H 599:1) So if every moment is filled with joy, love, peace, etc. we are living in eternity now. All the good in the past and in the future is in the eternal NOW.
