Live in the Light, not in the dark

December 10, 2020 | 29 comments

God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

~ John 1:5, KJV

God is Light, and there is no darkness in God’s presence to be found.

Live in the Light to live a life filled with light, joy, buoyancy, delight, and inspiration.

God is not far off, remote, or absent from your presence. God is the very Life that gives you existence in the first place. God gives you consciousness, reason, perspective, sight, hearing, inspiration, purpose, and joy. As a child of God, you have all goodness, here and now, to experience to the fullest.

Material sense is darkness. Matter offers no light in the spiritual sense of the word. It might promise something positive, but its glow will be temporary and leave you wanting, even despondent and perhaps feeling hopeless. When this happens, it’s a sign that thought is looking in the wrong place for light. It’s looking into the deep dark pit of matter, rather than turning to the bright shining heavenly light of Spirit!

The cure is clear. Cease looking to matter and person for hope and promise. Look to God, the source and creator of all good. Look to the Light! As your mental eye turns to the Light, it fills with light and the path before you brighten.

Live in the Light, not in the dark, and prosper.

    1. I have received so much support and healing ideas from the articles by Keith Walker. I had the privilege this time last year of working with her as my practitioner. She has since “gone on her way rejoicing “

  1. Thank you Evan for reminding us to Live in the Light. Light has two meanings: Light as the opposite of darkness and Light in weight as the opposite of heavy. Both meanings are appropriate here: leaning on the light of God (the sustaining Infinite) dispels any appearance of darkness and also removes any feeling of heaviness or being weighed down when thought seems stuck in a material viewpoint.

“The light of the body is the eye, if thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22). Thine eye be single means we are focused on, filled with and expressing only the one divine Mind, God.

The blazing light of Truth is shining on each of us and blasting away all error.

  2. This is lovely, thank you Evan – I have just been taking in Hymn 583 from our new hymn book, and it begins”-

“THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION…. WHOM SHALL I FEAR?

Then I open SpiritView and it’s all about light. I will look forward to all the comments,
and keep my thoughts filled with light so that no darkness cannot enter. Christ Jesus tells us to let our light shine, so that it illumines everyone and brings blessings on all.

  3. This is so helpful today ( and everyday) Evan. I’ve often interpreted this “ light ‘ as being understanding. That is understanding the Truth of every situation.
It’s very busy for me this time of year and I’ve found myself saying ‘I can’t…’ for many a reason But having read SV and your comments today I’m checking my thinking and sticking with ‘I can…or I will’
This change of thought has ‘lit up ‘ my duties as the lights on the Christmas tree lighten up the room. Grateful to all.❣️

  4. Thank you, Evan. This is lovely, and encourages us to . awake to the brilliant reality of God’s great love and provision of good for us . In the Christian Science textbook we read: “Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 215:12)

  5. Light is a thought to lean on. Years ago I used to meet with friends for a Christmas celebration. We sang carols and other songs, shared food we had brought. At the end of our gathering, pages of quotes about light; from the Bible , from S&H, and other spiritual writings, that were complied ,were handed out to each person . We would turn the lights off and as we shared reading this document of light, we would light one another candles. When we finished we would sit in this lovely darkness with our candles lighting the room. There were about 30 persons present. I still have my copies as the list grew each year. My two friends, who were sisters, that hosted the event each year, have passed on but the memories of these gatherings are cherished and full of light.

  6. Thank you Evan for reminding me that I live in the light of God and his goodness.
Thank you also to Angie for all the wonderful articles you expose us to. They are so helpful and I mail them to myself so I can listen to them many times. So so grateful for all the comments posted each day. Much love to all

  7. Dear Evan and all commentors… Thank you and especially now when the sun sets so early and we have only the Christmas tree lights on which represents the Light of Christ!

  8. Thank you Evan and all! I loved how Rose in her comment brought out the two meanings of light. I hope Evan won’t mind, but it occurred to me to alter his posting slightly to show how it may have been worded had he intended to bring out the other meaning of light (i.e. the opposite of “heavy”) that Rose mentioned. Many people these days may be feeling burdened due to having too many things to do or be feeling heavy, as in sad, due to missing loved ones at this time of year. So this is for anyone feeling any sort of “heaviness” in their thinking.
    ————————–

LIVE IN THE LIGHTNESS OF GOD, NOT THE HEAVINESS OF MATTER

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
    Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

God is Spirit, and there is no heaviness in God’s presence to be found.

Live in the Spirit to live a life filled with lightness, joy, buoyancy, delight, and inspiration.

God is not far off, remote, or absent from your presence. God is the very Life that gives you existence in the first place. God gives you consciousness, reason, perspective, sight, hearing, inspiration, purpose, and joy. As a child of God, you have all goodness, here and now, to experience to the fullest.

Material sense is heaviness. Matter offers no lightness in the spiritual sense of the word. It might promise something positive, but its lift will be temporary and leave you wanting, even despondent and perhaps feeling hopeless. When this happens, it’s a sign that thought is looking in the wrong place for lightness. It’s looking to burdensome matter, rather than turning to the buoyant, uplifting, heavenly joy of Spirit!

The cure is clear. Cease looking to matter and person for hope and promise. Look to God, the source and creator of all good. Look to Spirit! As your consciousness turns to Spirit, it fills with lightness and the path before you will be delightful, invigorating, and elevating.

Live in lightness (Spirit-based thinking), not in the heaviness (matter-based thinking), and experience vivacious joy.

    1. I LOVE today’s post Evan, and everyone’s comments. Yes, Rose and Brian, I often pray with the ideas of light as unburdened, weightless, etc. Brian, your 5th paragraph especially spoke to me as a perfect treatment for weight challenges and looking to material diets for help. Thank you, your ideas are beautifully expressed as usual.

    2. Brian, thank you for acknowledging my comment on the two meanings of Light. Your take on Evan’s post is so clever and well written, many will benefit from it.

Thank you Evan for inspiring all of our thoughts, comments and sharings, it’s all so special. Gratitude is flowing.

      1. Thank you Rose. One thing I meant to add to my comment and then forgot to add was that I realized when doing this that Evan’s original post could be interpreted different ways so as to include both meanings of the word “light” that you mentioned. So “nice job!” Evan. But it was still thought provoking to me to change a few words as I did. I find that reading something and then trying to restate it in your own words really helps me understand what I’ve read. I’ve often thought it would be fun to rewrite all of S&H or the Bible in my own words as an exercise for increasing my understanding of those two books. I used to do that restate exercise when reading the CS Bible Lesson each week and that was very helpful in forcing me to research citations I had to admit I really didn’t understand well enough to re-write them in my own words.

        1. I so agree, Brian! Words are often so very familiar that it is tempting to fly right over them! I often re-word passages in my own words, for my eyes, to expand the meanings.
And thank you for the nice sunrise!
          Will post my photo soon.

  9. The beautiful white, light – (in color and in gentleness) snowflakes of angelic thought peacefully cover us in a pristine blanket of God’s inspiration, as does the above graphic and message(s).
As a child I used to love to go outside on a snowy evening and catch snowflakes in their unique glistening whispers, like gifts from heaven, warming the cold, dark winter. Snow refreshes a bleak landscape, like God, Love, enlightens our world with the Truth of Being … (Be-In-God). What a lovely place to be. Light brightens our path and leads us to a place of harmony and peace.

  10. Thank you Evan, for this SV, Rose for your expansion and Brian for your uplifting and equally inspiring alterations to the article.
My heart, heavy with the burden of situation of a dear one in a nursing home, feels lighter already.

  11. Wonderful post and comments as I love to study on the theme of Light…especially during this time of Hanukkah, the Festival of Light and upcoming
traditional birth celebration of the Light of the world!

Here are some notes I’ve taken regarding these two celebrations:

Hanukkah: Feast of Dedication, Festival of Light
    Theme: Light, Anointing, Faithfulness

Celebration of God’s faithfulness and deliverance of His faithful (1&2 Maccabees)

    Remembrance of the oil/anointing

God preserved, protected, and provided through the actions of His faithful people.

    Victory of light over darkness

Spark of righteousness in a faithful few set a restoration movement on fire.

Remembrance of resisting mixing with the world….staying faithful to the one true God.

Overcoming tendency to forget who we are and allow another to rule over us.

Rededication of the temple after being recovered from worldliness.

    Rekindling of light within.

    John 10:22 …Feast of Dedication…
Yeshua/Jesus the Christ (the Light of the world, Truth) is walking around the temple (mind) in Solomon’s porch (place of peace).

On the 24th of the 9th lunar-solar Hebraic month, the temple was rededicated and purified.

The traditional story (deriving from the biblical story of 1&2 Maccabees) describes that the menorah only had enough oil for one day, but continued for eight…thus the modern Hanukkah menorah (called a hanukiah) has 9 branches (instead of 7) 8 candles representing the eight days, and the 9th, the one in the middle, is called the servant candle which lights the others each night.

Our oil, our light is Messiah (John 8:12):

“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Fun things to ponder: Tradition holds that Jesus the Christ was born December 25th, thus Christmas, however there is other Messianic thought that rather than being born then, he was conceived during this time (Hanukkah, Festival of Light), and born during Sukkot, the final biblical Fall Feast, the Feast of Tabernacles (the Word becoming flesh and tabernacling among us, a Feast we keep when He returns, see Zechariah 14:16).

Also: Jesus’ Hebrew name is Yeshua (English Joshua) which means ‘salvation’…
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matt.1:21 KJV)….call His name ‘salvation’ because He will be ‘salvation’ for His people.

Wonderful time to remember the Father’s faithfulness via Yeshua/Jesus our anointing, our miracle of light in this darkness; to rededicate our temple unto Him and to keep our lights shining for all to see and giving thanks to the Father of Lights for giving us His Light, His Truth, His Son Yeshua, our salvation from darkness.

    1. Thanks Anna for your insightful explanations of the upcoming holidays, particularly Chanukkah, the Festival of Lights which begins tonight with the lighting of the first candle. One lesson of this holiday is that out of seeming darkness, light can emerge. The light of one candle (light of Spirit) can give much illumination (wisdom).

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness or shadow of turning.” (James 1:17)

    2. Thank you, Anna, for your spiritual sense of Hannukkah. It is such a lovely tradition. There’s so much to appreciate from Jesus’ culture and background as a Jew.

  12. Evan, thank you for your illuminating message today, and Rose and Brian for your additional light filled perspectives. As always, I am in awe over so many uplifting responses and commentaries from this group of Spirit-infused thinkers! Thank you all for the light beams of inspiration you bring to my days.

  13. Wow what lively commentations today here on Evan`s priceless SpiritView platform!
Thank you very very much dear Evan ! There is really nothing to ad, it is absolute complete!. The healing truththoughts you give us here are inspiring and uplifting, yes and always healing!

Jay, I am not sure whether the method from some days ago, to put our face into the empty face works also from Germany. Not sure whether I can manage, however would also like to ad my face in here. It is so nice!

  14. I am so appreciative of all your expansion of Evan’s thoughts as I have felt burdened by dark heaviness. The ‘other’ meaning of light being light in weight is so helpful. Thanks all. Joyfilled, light filled holidays to everyone.
