What would you do if this were you?

Have you ever felt bothered or put-out by a child’s endless questions and requests for help?

Here’s a thought-provoking video on how one man responded to such.

“Be ready for the blessing”

Sent to me by a SpiritView reader. Thank you!

“One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children” (Matt. 19:13-14, NLT).

“It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin” (Luke 17:2, NLT).

  1. Thank you Evan for posting this!
I work with children and they all have something to say and yes I have been blessed many times by them. The Love that they share. Jesus so loved the children

  2. Was Jesus bothered by the endless questions of his disciples, or the multitudes? Probably sounding childlike to him.
When I called a practitioner with endless questions he always said, MBE says to emerge, but do it gently.
    Science and Health p. 485-14.
We can be gentle with all childlike questions. That is being Christlike.

  3. What a lovely example of seeing the blessing in what can seem to be an inconvenience! Both the man and the boy were expressing the Christ at the highest level – no judgments, just loving companionship!

  4. He’s right about that not being a coincidence but a blessing and a fulfilling of a purpose. Beautiful..

  5. Thank you Evan, dear one. Speaking of blessings coming in all shapes, sizes, smiles – here you are!

    1. Evan, thank you for posting this! What a great message of love in action.
Man and boy – children of God–placed right together
      on the airplane, and after.
That’s divine Love in action! Thank you God!.
“God’s child meets God’s child.” my Mom used to say.

  6. Great thought-starter – how could there possibly be either lucky or unlucky co-incidences within the unity, and perfect harmony of expression, of the one presence and creation of one power??!!

  7. Had not seen this one. Gerry is usually so humorous but he had an important message here. Listening to others may validate their being, calm anxiety, and draw out our brotherliness. Yep, blessings.

  8. An absolute delight! God chose their seats. There can be no doubt about that. The world has need of us as little children as Mary Baker Eddy so astutely wrote.

  9. I would like to believe I would act this way when I meet people from the GLBTIA+ community marching proudly in a parade, or see undocumented immigrants working to support their families, or Muslims practicing their faith, or people of color explaining to their children how to respond when the police pull them over, or listening to Hispanic people speaking their own language, or even seeing an unemployed, unmarried Jewish man challenging religious and political leaders and welcoming prostitutes–I think we miss a lot of blessings when we build walls instead of listen.

  10. I love how the man told us what he was thinking as he talked/listened to the boy. Don’t we all sometimes listen politely while wondering “when can I go do what I want, when can I talk, why can’t this person leave me alone, what does she want… ?” when in fact the person may just need company, reassurance.

This man helped helped share in the boy’s excitement, helped quell his fear, helped him have a better experience which he won’t likely forget.
    So sweet!

  11. Thank you, Evan for this video. And although the man ìs talking very fast, so that I as a German can hardly understand him sometimes, I think I do understand the essential part of this SpiritView.
To answer Evan’s above question I. e. “what would I do if I were that man in the video.
I probably would send a help prayer to God, to give me patience and calmness to handle that situation lovingly.

Thank you all for your inspired and interesting comments which help me to understand what today’s SpiritView will teach us.

  12. Dear Uta, it’s ok that you had trouble understanding the man…he has a very thick Texas or Southern accent that even I had trouble understanding at times. But such a dear man and cute story!

      1. Actually Uta I too had some trouble understanding his very strong accent, but I am grateful that the patience and love he showed to the young man did come across in the video.

  13. What planet are we on that we don’t embrace others in their uniqueness and identity ? And so it is. Blessings.

  14. I really enjoyed this video and have been in a similar place in my thinking with children, I too have had to pray for more patience and understanding and I still do everyday as I am helping raise my granddaughter, she is not a teenager, she is three and asks “why” a lot or other questions that are important to her, it takes patience and love. After watching this video I told her thank you for being a part of my life. I agree with Connie, Evan-you are a blessing to all of us. Thank you very much.

  15. Love Gerry Brooks, an actual principal from Kentucky that goes around the country speaking to educators (can’t spell it the goofy way he intentionally mispronounces words on his videos). He is a well respected “educator” that is an absolute jewel and funny as all get out. Thanks for blessing us with a Gerry Brooks video Evan!

  16. Like Mr. Roger’s mother always told him, “Look for the helpers”. Wherever you go you can be a helper and there are so many good helpers out there. Thanks Mr. Brooks for being a helper, that’s why we’re here on this earth.
