Putting mercy above winning

August 1, 2011 | 6 comments

In this world of stiff and often vicious competition for the #1 place in sports, business, and relationships, here’s a video that will give you pause and sober reflection.
It’s about a teenager who achieved something she never thought she’d achieve.  But on the way to home plate disaster strikes, and help comes in the most unexpected form.

  1. I recognize this video by your description of it. It brought me to my knees when I first saw it.

It is, to me, the essence of true competition. It is better, as the saying goes, to give than to receive.

What we have here is the true spirit of winning, which must bless all alike. Actually, probably the givers (the “losers” as perceived by worldly standards) feel even more blessed than the receiver, if that’s possible!

Thank you for sharing this powerful message, Evan.

  2. We offer a reminder to ourselves and others at times to “Remember, God is always on the playing field.” Saying that often helps me to center thought on His ever operative law of love, and harmony, at once the boundary and circumference of our spiritual being. Could we have expected less than the loving outcome we witness in this record? The intuitively angelic thought arrived in the mind of the “opposition,” packaged in love, wrapped in care and “fair play.” We intuitively recognize from whence the message came and respond accordingly.
    Thank you so much Evan.

  3. Incredibly touching and tender, Evan. Thank you so much for finding and sharing this beautiful, humble, and uplifting message. The quiet good in simple, humble circumstances blesses one and all.

  4. I cry every time I see this. I wondered why I took the time to see it again today … to me it is an antidote to so much that parades as normal behavior. I feel all washed clean. Thanks.
