Be quick to love, slow to anger

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

~ Proverbs 16:32, RSV

Love is power.  Anger is not.

Be quick to love, and slow to anger.  The results are far better.

  1. Thank you, Evan, for this gentle reminder!
That ole’ snake talker is like the Hollywood cattle call. It’s got a script that involves all of the human emotions and ends in a tragedy or horror. It is impersonal evil going door to door to people’s consciousness advertising for actors to play the roles. Mrs. Eddy instructs us to be porters at the door of our thinking. “Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 392:24–27 Stand).
The porter that she was referring to was like the one on the train that checked for tickets. Only legitimate ticket holders got to stay on the train. Those without legitimate tickets got thrown off.
The ‘Daily Prayer’ tells us: ”It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: “Thy kingdom come;” let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!”
(Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 41:19).
These ‘affections’ are the only legitimate emotions we can afford to entertain in our thinking. Anger, fear, lust, greed, hatred, sensuality are not legitimate and must be thrown off the train. Happy porter work!

  2. Sheree wrote “ thank you so lovely! It makes us lovely”
I like this very much! I immediately asked myself
“Am I lovely? Do I love, and am Therefore lovely?”

Yesterday I found myself in an ever-agitating anger mode, getting angry (within my head) at everyone I encountered- Drivers, people at my meetings, and even people I thought about. After a while I called the halt to this, and I asked myself who I really mad at? In all honesty, I had to admit that I was angry at myself.
    Well the, What’s the antidote?

    Turn LOVE back on!
We have the example of our Master Christ Jesus, and thinking of how he did nothing but love makes this an easier task. He told us to take his yoke upon us, that his yoke- His burden is light. Doesn’t that tell us that living in/as Love is lightening, enlightening, giving us Light ?! With Him leading the way, it is easy.
Loving all of you lovelies today
    Each day
    And Thank you

    1. Thanks Annie, here’s the rest of that verse in Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I love that he says, “I will give you rest.” I (we) often need a good rest from the constant advertising campaign of error that tries to portray itself as our own thoughts. No way. As Diane Rose said above, no ticket, not legitimate, tossed off the train. The train is like our consciousness, our home, we can protect it from lies about God’s child. That will surely lighten things up.

  3. Thank you so much, Evan , and love the comments . When anger tries yo come in I think of the title of a popular song “ Stop in the name of Love “

  4. Sticking with God first and standing porter. Not always easy, but the Shepherd will always gently lead us back..
Shepherd show me how to go,
    how to be focused,
how to be slow to anger,
how to be gentle, loving and kind, to see myself as your image and likeness.
    Thank you all!

  5. “Governed by Love, not by anger” Anger begins as a thought, which is really a suggestion, that can be rejected because it is not of God. By Stephanie Mason (Christian Science Sentinel, November 1, 2021 issue). If anyone is interested in reading or posting this. Sorry, I just have the pdf version.

      1. Thank you very much, dear Rose! It’s a great article and very helpful. I must listen to it more than one time.

Thank you Evan. I got angry to myself when I droped something so that I must bend down to get it up again. But meanwhile I learnt to stay calm in such situation as I know that doesn’t belong to God’s reflection. Still there is another situation I have to pray for that anger doesn’t heal but rather knowing that only omnipotent God is in full controle heals!
Today’s SpiritView is a certain awakening to the spiritual truth that anger does in no way belong to me as God’s child!!
Again thank you dear Evan for this awakening to Truth!♡

  6. Thank you dear Evan and all for this very pouring out of love. Like the water
in the sea, God is there and pours Love to us – a constant flow of divine messages
that never stops, even if we don’t seem to always feel Love’s presence. Often we
get caught up in the mortal, the anxieties of the challenges around us that seem to
be so real and drag us down to the depths of the devil (“evil; a lie; error; neither
corporeality nor mind; the opposite of Truth … ” Mrs. Eddy’s definition).
    I am reminded of Hymn# 316,
“Speak gently, it is better far To rule by love than fear; Speak gently, let no
harsh word mar The good we may do here …
Speak gently, ’tis a little thing, Dropped in the heart’s deep well; The good, the joy
that it may bring, Eternity shall tell.”
    Lovely!

    1. Thank you dear Angel for hymn # 316. Yes, those are very lovely, calming and, yes healing words! I love that hymn!♡

  7. Thank you for this today Evan. And thank you to all our commenting friends here on S.V.
Wonderful helpful article Rose and just the right hymn to quote Angel.
