Do you identify with Genesis One or Genesis Two?

The Dreamer
by J. Woodruff Smith

Where did it begin
This idea called you?
In Genesis 1,
Or Genesis 2?

Which one of these concepts
Will prove to be true?
If you know what is what,
Do you know who is who?
In Genesis 1 in the 26th verse
There’s a man with never a taint of a curse.
But in Genesis 2 in verse number seven
There’s a dust man conceived…
He’ll never see heaven.

So it really comes down
To which one you will claim,
What thou see’st thou be’st…
So what is your name?

There they both stand.
Which one is you?
Is it immortal man one,
Or mortal man two?
If you’re immortal man
You know what you’re worth.
For according to law
You’ll inherit the earth.
But if you’re just a mortal
And made out of dust…
Is there anything to you
That’s worthy of trust?
No, the thing they call man
In Genesis 2
Is the dream of the dreamer.
It never was you.
So know what you are.
Take your place in the sun,
You’re the immortal man
Of Genesis 1.

  1. Spirituality, the definition of which simplifies what life really is; GENESIS 1 which is spiritual Truth. But! GENESIS 2 is another story, it’s definition consis of hundreds of pages of pure material nonsense making the simple so hard to understand that it destroys man’s pure innocence and mixes the whole thing up that the Tares and the wheat seem to commingle and confuse the whole sense of Being.

  2. This reads with the cadence and the simplicity of the Dr. Seuss books (poetry) I used to read to my children. Which made me smile as I read it because J. Woodruff Smith has captured the essence of all being in this poem.
    “Where did it begin,

Perfect for little ones to memorize (and then answer with a resounding GENESIS 1) Grownups too! Herein lies the litmus test for all thoughts that come to us:
Did it originate in Genesis 1 or Genesis 2? I love what you said, Tobias, about the tares (Genesis 2) and the wheat (Genesis 2). How clear this is. Now to take it on the practice field! Thank you, Evan, for keeping this blog fresh and challenging!

  3. “Simplicity is the mark of true greatness” (author unknown). KISS, or keep it simple, student. Of course, man is as told in Genesis 1, the idea, the thought of God. This is why the real man is without fault, eternally as God’s own expression or reflection. (It is always more laborious to explain something untrue as in Genesis 2. Thank you, Evan.

  4. …and now.., my contribution…

    “So, which one are you?
    Have a think.!
One will swim, the other sink!

    A mortal’s troubles you described,
But with “pen of an angel” you’re inscribed!

The “point of a diamond” left its mark,
To the truth you need to hark,

And heed that message from above,
Your sole design is that of Love!!”
