Seek the things of Spirit

May 26, 2021 | 15 comments

What’s are the most important things to have in life? Is it money, things, status, or fame? Or is it something much deeper and more substantial?

In this video, I share my quest for happiness over the decades, and how it led me to seek the things of the Spirit above all else. As I mention, I still have the things I need, but even more, I have profound happiness that no material thing can give me or take away.

This vlog was filmed in the Valley of Fire State Park, in Nevada, while hiking there in October 2020.

    1. Thank you very much Angie for sharing this article. I didn’t receive SpiritView in my e-mail or my Junk folder today (Wednesday) but was able to get it thru a search on Safari. Evan, these ideas you’re sharing are perfect to share with a friend who lives in a motor home and often travels the areas you travel.

      1. I didn’t receive it n my email either but it was in newer. on yesterdays SV. I shared through email to a friend because we were talking about material things vs spiritual ideas last night. She is not CS but Bahai and we both are part of an interfaith prayer group that meets weekly. We were the only ones zooming in last night. I’m grateful to be able to share CS ideas with this group.

    2. Thanks Angie. As you have often done finding relevant accents to the message sent from Evan we are most grateful.

  1. Thank you very very much, dear Evan for the so clear spiritual views on how to be a really happy child of God, divine Love!
This evening I am very happy I could talk by video via cost free WhatsApp. to a very good German friend of mine who meanwhile lives in Azusa in California for years. We did not talk for a long time. And these days I had the longing for a nice chat with her. And I thank God we had it!! That also belongs to real richness, to express the lovely spiritual idea of friendship which I do love a lot! And to express all the wonderful qualities of our overrich Father-Mother God makes us abundantly happy.

It just comes to my memory that Jesus said in his sermon on the mount in St. Matthew chapter 6, verse 33: “seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” God and His Kingdom has all the good we want and need, to be happy! Looking to this direction we will be utmost happy and have all we need. I understand, that that is what Evan teaches us today so joyful and loving – thank you for it!!!♡

By the way, I didn’t either get this wonderful SpiritView in my mail inbox. And so I pressed “newer” in yesterday’s SpiritView.
And as here are so few comments I suppose many other SpiritView friends experienced the same.
Dear SpiritView Team, could you please do something to it?

  2. I just received in my email now – did not receive earlier today as I usually would have.

  3. Great message Evan… Who of us does not want more love in our lives. The goal of “getting” things is
the opposite of finding love. God is our only ultimate source of finding love. As we experience that love then the most natural occurrence is to share that love. Like the little kids song says: “Love is like a magic penny. Lend it and spend it and give it away and you will end of having more.”

  4. Just to add my two cents, late in the day, thank you to Evan for the reminder that Spirit is the real and true. If we focus our attention there, we can trust that all our other needs will be met naturally and harmoniously. “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need……to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good” (S&H p. 494)

And thank you Angie for the classic article from 1907. I appreciate these, they are like fine wines that get better with time, they are timeless.

  5. Wonderful post , Evan – and so easy to share this with non CS friends . Who could NOT want more spiritual good in their lives !
Also found the article ( shared by Angie and written in 1907 ) so clear about how God shows us ( as he showed Elija ) how to handle the claims of evil – whilst being alert to those claims and taking the right action to disarm them ( in thought ) – it is Love that frees everyone from the beliefs of enslavement .
Am about to share on Twitter – but no longer with using my personal Handle but creating a new Church account .

  6. Psalms 66: 1 Make joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands:
I met a new friend. He was with another friend very dear to me. I welcomed him to the Living and Learning campus where my son Christopher and I volunteer.
I had the most sudden urge to sing! And I did sing! Loudly with expression, mist the trappings of farming equipment, garages, trees, nature. “Savior” Hymn # 298 found in the Christian Science Hymnal. “Saw ye my Savior? Heard ye the glad sound! Felt ye the power of the word?”
My new friend got an unforgettable introduction! As I sang the beloved and healing poem by our leader Mary Baker Eddy all the way through. Silently looking at one another, they couldn’t quit smiling!
My new acquaintance and I are fast friends. We share very often since then.
Last night at the regular testimony meeting there were many long somber expressions of heartfelt gratitude.
Just before the end of the service, I just had to get up and tell of this experience. The day after this singing followed one of the most wonderful days one could ever have.
A singing testimony evolved! I told the congregation they may get a kick out of it.
I told of this introduction and sang the first verse. Loudly! Everyone was smiling. All through the rest of the meeting. They seemed delighted. Filled with Spirit and were indeed happy.
Sing a song every day. Let it live in your heart and be joyful.
“Sing, sing a song. Make it simple to last your whole life long. don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing, sing a song!”
AM Records 1973, by the Carpenters.
