Thoughts are divine

A friend brought Mary Baker Eddy’s question, “Are thoughts divine or human?” to my attention, from Science and Health, p. 462, and eloquently shared her insight on why true thoughts must be divine rather than human.  I was grateful for her sharing.

Again, Mrs. Eddy asks “Are thoughts divine or human?”

I reasoned it through for myself.

If God is Mind, and Mind is All, then all thoughts are divine.  They are not human.

The human mind entertains countless impressions, but if they aren’t coming from divine Mind, they do not have the weight and substance of a thought.  They are merely impressions.

Hatred may come across as a “thought” to the human mind, but it is not a thought.  It is an error of belief.  There is no divine Mind behind it to sustain it.  It is temporal, doomed from the beginning.

Love, however, comes from God, and is a thought with substance and weight.  It is indestructible.  It will last forever.

Evil impressions are not the equivalent of spiritual thoughts.  They are like shadows in the night that leave no trace behind and have no weight to register.

Stick with spiritual thoughts from God and prosper.

  1. “What do you think?”

Heard often throughout the day in conversations, exchanges, discussion.

Thank you Evan for the reminder to really think about thought.

  2. Thank you for today’s Spiritview! Very helpful in being alert and aware of the one and only Mind thinking. Great article Martine thank you for sharing!

  3. When sending a text message and
you realize you sent it to the wrong
person, you have a few seconds to
    push,, Undo-send, and it immediately
    disappears.
We have the same option with
    thought. Undo-send.
    Working on that.

  4. “The time for thinkers has come”. (Mrs. Eddy, Preface vii, Science and Health).
Thank you dear Evan and Everyone. It all comes down to how are we are thinking.
Is it divine Mind that is controlling our thoughts or is it mortal-man mind that is
human oriented and not divine.. Our God-given guidance and direction is
filled with Love and Truth and we reflect these wonderful feelings of divine
thought in our lives with harmony and soul and what a terrific feeling is that!!!
Enjoy a God/Mind filled day today, Everyone.

  5. Evan I love the way you explained that human so-called thoughts are merely impressions, briefly entertained, but with no substance or reality…”like shadows in the night that leave no trace behind and have no weight to register.” Beautifully said!

I read a prayer that said thank you God for establishing the works of my hands, I added, thank you God for establishing my thoughts, they all really come from Him, the One Mind.

  6. Like waves on a pond, it’s easy to be predominately influenced by what our “surface” comes into contact with. When we allow our focus to be mesmerized by all the things that seem to be happening to us (aka “I thinking”), our thoughts and experience are inconsistent and unpredictable. Instead, we can focus on the clear, calm depths of our true Substance (“thinking I”) and are blessed with peace, no matter the “weather”!

  7. In reflecting on this topic, I think of thoughts emanating from divine Love as expressing Principle or Law which is omnipotent and ever operating to harmonize, inspire and bless.

Evan, I love “Evil impressions are not the equivalent of spiritual thoughts. They are like shadows in the night that leave no trace behind and have no weight to register.”

  8. Thank you so much Evan for todays thoughts. ‘’Error of belief’’ helps push mortal mind prying into true consciousness and banishes personality as a valid posture.

  9. Thank you for these blessings of thoughts – in being divine rather than human. I
visited a dear friend I had not seen in a while due to the pandemic and her daughters
not wanting her to be exposed, and had not allowed visitors. She just turned 90 and her
warm hug of Love was a true feeling and expression of the divine. I found myself trying
to hold thought on the divine rather than the human, as she kept asking the same
questions over and over, after I had answered them. Patience and love was most needed
in this situation, as in all situations where it Seems that the human tends to want to distort
the reality of God’s being in perfection. I also had patronized a friend who owns a take-out
restaurant and the language barrier sometimes interferes with understanding. Love …
divine Love, as with divine Mind, conquers this seeming obstacle and her loving reflection
of God always shines through in the warmness of smiles and gratitude, where One Mind
is expressed and transcends limitations.. God/Mind/”Love is impartial and universal in
    its adaptation and bestowals”. (MBE)

  10. This is a wonderful discussion. Our master. Jesus told us to repent, for the kingdom is at hand. MBE talks about a Cardinal rule in Christian Science that has three parts. (I love all her Cardinal rules) First, evil must be realized as evil, then rejected (repented of) and then we must understand what good is, and think and do it. In the excellent article shared by Martine, the human impression was accepted as a compliment. But in prayer, God brought back the error to her attention as a mistake—not from him. She then rejected the idea of her right activity as being a burden or even a personal endeavor, then filled herself with the right thoughts of being joyful in doing God’s right activity. And God’s right activity is our thinking. How wonderful to start to think hey, that’s not really a thought and it’s not my thought. God communicates thoughts to me. That’s the Christ.

  11. Thank you very much, dear Evan! This SpiritView is very comforting asuring us that only God’s thoughts are real, good and healing and saving. As you say “If God is Mind, and Mind is All, then all thoughts are divine.. They are not human.”
Thank you for your blessing Gift of SpiritView! ❤️
