Here’s a quote you might appreciate:
Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world…
If you do so, you are insulting yourself.
~ Bill Gates
Each of us has a unique individuality made in the likeness of God that is like none other. When we look at our neighbor and compare, we devalue our own specialness and fail to appreciate how wonderful and perfect we are in God’s image.
To excel, we should lose any temptation to imitate another, and strive to be everything God created us to be. It’s okay to be unique. It’s your role!
Love this reminder Evan, thank you.
I recall a conversation I had with a dear CS teacher and he said to me that when one is actually in one’s niche, within one’s unique place and calling, this will include rightful recognition because it is a complete idea and demonstration.
And being unique is it is exclusive to you, for this reason we are never in competition with another. We all have our unique niche in ‘time and eternity’…… to quote Mary Baker Eddy.
So grateful Evan, have a great weekend….
I have lived, since childhood, with the entertainment industry since my father was, in the 1920 and 1930’s, a movie actor. I used to hear amongst the young actors, “I would like to follow in his footsteps or her footsteps.” I got to thinking why can’t they follow their own footsteps. As I grew up and started studying C/S, I realized that when an actor tried to copy the great actors, they bombed out, they fizzled. This was due because they didn’t realize their uniqueness. So, please, be yourselves and see success be demonstrated.
I always smile when I even hear the word “unique”. For some reason I chose to call myself “Unique” as if it were my name. My friend was Luther . For over 30 years we playfully call one another by these names. I have often wondered why I chose that name. I think that in those early years I did feel very special, different, not like the people around me. I don’t feel as unique these days as the world has finally caught up with me. But I still do things in a rather unique way and will strive to continue to do so. Unique is one of a kind and those snowflakes reminded me of how much I used to love cutting them out. Thanks for the memories!
Thanks for the message! My teacher quoted Shakespeare, as did Mary Baker Eddy: “Comparisons are odorous.” I have been sorely tempted to compare recently by a chart I saw on Facebook. It shows the ideal, perceived, and actual distribution of wealth among people in the US. It is so grossly lopsided. I felt nauseated when I saw it. Then I remembered that this was only a depiction of matter – which is nothing! God provisions match my needs, and everyone’s – that’s what’s important.
I was suggested this website by my cousin. I’m not sure whether this post is written by
him as no one else know such detailed about my difficulty.
You are amazing! Thanks!
