Here’s a short video of how a young man robbed at knifepoint responded with a healing wisdom that only divine Love could inspire.

“Man robbed at knifepoint and what he did”

  1. Amazing. If we could only think properly when faced with a fearful situation we might do what this fellow did. He was one in a million and I’m sure he will do well in life. He had the innocent thought — the purity that heals.

  2. Wow! What a great video! Talk about listenting to the Christ. May we all listen to the “still small voice”

  3. I had been studying the lesson and praying for quite some time one Saturday morning and after that I drove to the super market to buy a few groceries. I parked the car, got out and was heading for the open door when a young teenager sidled up to me and snatched my small purse from out of my hand. I was amazed but not angry’ I begged him to give me my purse. He backed away teasingly
.”Don’t you know God loves you and has made you to do only good thing?. This is not good . We need to be kind to one another”.
“No one has ever talked to me like that”,he said.I continued to talk to him in this same manner for just a very short time.
He walked back to me and handed me my purse.
I have pondered this event more than once. I just knew the Christ had been present with us that morning.
Thanks for that video, Evin. – a lovely story.

  4. What a priceless amazing event! I especially love the part when he offers his coat to the robber. Such Christlike compassion and love for your fellow man, especially one on the wrong track. You know that teenager’s life was altered that day.

  5. Simply beautiful. Such a simple act of kindness proves that one person can make a difference in the world. True love and compassion like the Good Samaritan. Thank you for sharing this Evan.

  6. I had a very similar situation and the boy who stole my bag handed it back, he apologised and said he really didn’t WANT to be a thief, we had a long talk and I told him he wasn’t a thief because he felt so bad about stealing in the first place. We talked about how it is NATURAL for everyone to want to be good and honest.
We talked for half an hour on the street. Eventually I gave him enough money to get to a shelter for the very cold night ahead. He promised me he wouldn’t do this again and walked off down the street crying.
I hope he went to the place I suggested to ask for more long term practical help.
I think that if someone thinks of themselves as a bad person they will not see any reason not to behave like that. But if you tell them YOU KNOW they are good and can get them to talk about what THEY see in themselves as good, maybe it won’t feel like a natural thing to do wrong next time. Just my thought on this.

  7. Having spent 21 years in law enforcement, a cop, it would be difficult to work through with such kindness. A few years ago I was confronted while at a stop sign, my windows were rolled down. Several young subjects came over to my car and threatened me with robbery.

I have a permit to carry a gun and had it with me. I told them I was armed and a retied police officer. One subject put his hand on the door and tried to open, it was locked.

He thought for just a few seconds and all three of them ran down he street.

This was a different situation. I had an advantage.

I did not think of approaching the situation with God’s Protection?

    1. EVAN, This is so good to see this video again. I first found it more than a month ago on UpWorthy website.
Just one small type Evan — Your blog says “robbed at gunpoint”. The weapon was a KNIFE. rOBBED at knifepoint.
      Can you correct this?

I want to forward this to several people who will benefit from this message
of presence of MIND, God, LOVE, TRUTH, SPIRIT!
I am also grateful for the dialogue this has opened up.
      Great to hear your commentators
who have shared their own experiences
      in which LOVE PREVAILED!!!
And in Bill’s situation, it was God’s presence of MIND giving you the calmness, and the right way to respond. Wasn’t it also God, the One Mind who spoke in the consciousness of those would-be-robbers– the youths who “got” the message, and ran off. YOU and THEY were protected by divine LOVE.

      1. Oops! Thanks for pointing that out. I just corrected it. Knifepoint, not gunpoint.

I need all the editors I can get…LOL

  8. Thanks, Evan, for this! To Bill G. – I think each situation is different and every response will be different. What you did in your situation was probably the Best for You and the Kids! If we are listening and praying, we will be led to do what is right for us and the perpetrators. The most important thing is to Listen – we never know what God/Christ/Truth has for us to do, but if we are humble and receptive, we will hear and be able to follow thru.!

  9. These examples are all very helpful and insightful . Love inspires, designates.and leads the way. About 20 years ago I walked down my hallway into my living room to see a tall, man standing in my room. I walked toward him and said something like get out of here . You don’t belong here. I backed him right outside the door. He never said anything but did as I requested. After the door closed and I locked it I called 911. By that time I was shaking vigorously. The police and others were stunned that I wasn’t harmed. I had no idea I would have approached him as I did. My thought was simply he didn’t
belong there and should leave. It was as if a naughty child or animal had walked through the door with dirty paws or feet. I think I might have reminded him of a mother scolding him . I always wondered why I did what I did. Whatever possessed me to act as I did. I really am very frightened by this sort of thing. But I believe God took over and led me to do what was right at that moment. God is with us 100% of the time!

    1. Hi Patty…You wrote “I always wondered why I did what I did.” I’ve found my study of Christian Science tends to take over my thinking automatically when I’m faced with a situation for which I can think of no human solution. So perhaps all your years of studying about the right idea of man kicked in automatically and prompted you to respond as you did!

And thanks to Bevi for her response to Bill. I was thinking along the same lines, but Bevi included the added dimension of Bill’s actions being the best for the kids too, which I had not considered.

And thanks to Bill for your years of service in law enforcement! I very much appreciate the folks that serve in that capacity.

  10. In my job I have to diffuse situations with patrons all the time. They usually just need to be assured that they will have my attention and I will listen to what they have to say.
I did have someone approach me , many years ago, as I was walking down a street in Manhattan. I had just bought a sandwich. He got the sandwich, he was so hungry, and ran off.
I wonder what I would do if someone approached myself and one of my grandchildren with a knife. I am usually ok when it is just me but with my grandchild? I hope I will turn to God as I do with my patrons and see that person as a child of God, locked in fear.

  11. One night after Wednesday church service as I turned onto my street and approached a small residential intersection just before my driveway I heard a voice say “That man is following you.” I immediately turned into the street and went a very short block to an intersection, looked back and no one followed so I hung a U and went back down to my street. I turned toward my house and saw a car backing out of my driveway to come back toward where I had turned. I continued pass my driveway up a long block. The car turned around a again. He eventually was following me again. As I drove back toward our small town, the signal was red for me. A voice said “turn right.” I was able to turn between traffic but the car had to wait. At the next block again the voice instructed me “Turn right” this voice directed me to a small enclosed parking lot hidden from the street. I pulled in, parked, took my foot off the brake and watch as this car passed by several times looking for me. Finally, I knew it was safe to go home. And I did. I felt so loved and protected the whole time. During this time mortal thought was active but underneath lay a strong sense of calm and protection, like watching through a window at a stream with turbulence on the surface and the quietude under. I mentioned this to my mom and she replied “I felt a strong need to pray for life for you that day and spent several hour doing just that.”
I am so grateful for Christian Science and its practical application in all our daily needs. Thank you Evan, for sharing this video and reminding me of this precious experience of walking and talking with God. And thank you all for sharing.
    Lovingly,

  12. Thanks Evan, and everyone for the great comments! It’s so awesome to hear all these instances of protection.

Evan, when I shared this on Facebook, it still gave the part at the top as robbed at gunpoint, so you may want to check that.

  13. Thanks Brian for your insight. The man didn’t seem scary. He wasn’t armed. I’m sure he was as surprised as I was. But for me to walk towards him rather than scream and run away from him was really so out of character for me. I am very much of a chicken. I was completely God empowered and stated the Truth that he didn’t belong.
Thank you for sharing with me the Phil Davis blog. I am subscribed thanks to you.

  14. This young man must have been a God fearing man. He was following Christ Jesus Sermon on the mount. Matthew 5: 40-41 “And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. and whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain…” and the rest of the chapter especially verse 44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies…do good to them that hate you” That is precisely what this young man did! I’m going to pay more attention to the Sermon on the mount from now on! Such perfect instruction. And it keeps us safe. (=

Thank you Evan for sharing this most helpful video. And thanks to everyone who shared. <3
