Prepare for Life

September 19, 2016 | 21 comments

It seems that many people spend their final decades on earth preparing to die. It’s not so obvious how this works, because very few people consciously want to die. They want to live. But this bane is a subtle seeming pervasive influence that needs to be guarded against to prevent bad results.

For instance, the temptation to think, “I’m in my declining years,” opens thought to lessening health. Or, “I’m older now, so should expect my body to complain,” opens thought to unnecessary pain and aches. There are a thousand other ways the mortal mind would manipulate the human mind into accepting declining health and more disease and lead to suffering. But it’s not necessary. The temptation to lose health with advancing years can be resisted and defeated.

Yes, people pass on, but there is no requirement that it has to be a suffering experience. It is healthier and safer to expect to leave this earth in good health.

So, resist the temptation to decline and choose Life.

Life is not a temporal condition of the physical body that wanes over time. Life is God, the eternal Mind that supports and sustains man’s existence forever. Life is ever-present, ever-strong, ever in charge of man’s being. Life knows nothing of years and nothing of decline. Life only knows eternal health and strength.

Prepare for Life, not for death, and remain healthy and strong. Choose Life and live it fully today!

“Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight” Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 246.

  1. Dear Evan, the absolute Truth you posted with your inspiring todays SpiritView is so so freeing! Thank you very much indeed. Now my day and every day is “saved”. Yes, but we have to know that every day anew. Thats ok because our lesson sermon gives us the needed food too – am very grateful for all the love coming to us through Christian Science.

  2. Evan,

I was looking through your achived posts but I cannnot find an article you posted in your blog about “touch” being important- don’t stop touching – I can’t remember what it was called – I realize this might not be the way to contact you but it was one of your blogs. If you could perhaps let me know where it is or send it to me I would greatly appreciate it.
Your blogs are so on the spot!

    Thank you,
    Danuta

  3. sometimes I feel alone in the wilderness. Thank you for reminding me I am not with your blogs. there was recently a death in the family. So many of the people I grew up with that are my ‘age’ have died, all from illnesses. And family members then look at me and worry I am next. I will work to understand and be an example of right thinking. I find this such a blessing.

  4. thank you, Evan! This can apply to other life conditions as well. Recently, I visited a former neighbor who had moved to the local senior housing complex. I thought – “wow this is pretty nice – it won’t be so bad when I have to give up my house and move here.” I caught that thought immediately and addressed the fear that i will be broke and destitute at some future date. Not that there is anything wrong with living in that beautiful complex. But what was wrong was my thought that I would be in a bad place financially. God’s supply and abundance do not lessen!!

  5. I feel like I just taken a shower. Thank you Evan. What a refreshing thought for today. As the others have already indicated, your daily post are integral to starting our day off right.

  6. Lovely and so Inspiring, Evan! “Take my Life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee….” A Beautiful C.S. Hymn. God is My Life! God is Your Life! God is Our Life! Love Life!

  7. Thank you, Evan, and for all of the comments. How very important it is to prepare for life continuously and not be tempted to believe death can relieve us of earthly difficulties. We can maintain our vigor as we pass from one phase to another of life which is eternal.

  8. A very important exposure of a tempting trap. Thanks so much. It’s always nice to remember that the mental work we do obviously helps us, but also helps lift the mental weight of this imposition from others.

    1. Wow! What a wonderful blog that is especially meaningful to me right now. A very dear friend of many years passed away over the weekend. I knows she continues on her happy journey, I miss her. The errors of aging are so rampant and your thoughts are so helpful counteracting them. This is a keeper. As always, thank you for your terrific sharing. Peggy

  9. I liked the part that says we should expect to leave this earth in “good health”…..no requirement that it has to be a suffering experience. No fear in that outlook.

    Thank you.

  10. Thanks Evan! More and more I’m realizing that being a Christian Scientist is a lot like being in the United States Presidential Secret Service detail. But instead of our job being to protect the president, our job is to protect the right idea of man we hold in consciousness. That’s a job that gives us plenty of employment 24/7.

  11. Excellent! Thank you Evan. And thank you Bud especially for the expanded view that reminds us of the blessing it offers others too. (=

  12. I, too, liked the part that says we should expect to leave this earth in “good health”…..no requirement that it has to be a suffering experience. Another keeper!

  13. I am thankful the many nice comments given by your responders. They are thoughtful and meaningful and go along way for our daily thoughts! Thanks !

  14. Hi Evan… I loved your words on your blog today. “The temptation to lose health with advancing years can be resisted and defeated. Why? Because, Life is God, the eternal Mind that supports and sustains man’s existence forever. Life is ever-present, ever-strong, ever in charge of man’s being. Life knows nothing of years and nothing of decline. Life only knows eternal health and strength.” So comforting in fact…
Yes… generally speaking, people do associate declining health with age. But as you so correctly put it, there is no requirement that death has to be a suffering experience. It is healthier and safer to expect to leave this earth in good health. What a beautiful idea in fact.
Just this morning I was discussing this issue with a friend and we were both praying that when we pass on, our transition is smooth, so that we don’t inconvenience anybody in our old age. Your inspiration has given us the confidence that we need not lose health with advancing years because God (Life) gives us eternal health and strength. Quote”Man governed by God is always beautiful and grand. Each succeeding year unfolds wisdom, beauty and holiness. Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight.” Mrs Eddy.
When we are attuned to God, we get the right inspirations and healing answers to our concerns and worries. Thanks Evan for giving us a healing answer to our old age concerns. All the best to your Blog and may you continue to inspire all of us with your lovely words of encouragement. Thanks so much.
