A medical and Christian Science approach to health-care

May 4, 2017 | 15 comments

A medical approach to health-care is to diagnose a problem and then try to get rid of it. A Christian Science approach to health-care is to diagnose the perfect man of God’s creating and to bear witness to it.

Mary Baker Eddy explains in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,

“A physical diagnosis of disease — since mortal mind must be the cause of disease —tends to induce disease” Page 370.

“The ordinary practitioner, examining bodily symptoms, telling the patient that he is sick, and treating the case according to his physical diagnosis, would naturally induce the very disease he is trying to cure, even if it were not already determined by mortal mind” Page 161.

“Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick” Page 476.

  1. Dear Evan, thank you so much for this. Your first paragraph is such a brief clear full explanation! Wow!

  2. Well done. There is so much power in Mrs. Eddy’s statement “…the correct view of man healed the sick.” The fog lifts, doubt is removed, and God’s goodness is confirmed. Thanks so much.

  3. I pray daily with the last quote to have that correct view of man that Jesus did and thus bring much needed healing.

  4. I keep reminding myself that we are under God’s Government

Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s govern. No pain in matterment. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation. Your body would suffer no more from tension or wounds than the trunk of a tree which you gash or the electric wire which you stretch, were it not for mortal mind. 393

  5. Pressed submit before finishing. That statement by Mrs. Eddy is wonderful. Am printing this to keep on my laptop.

  6. When faith is strong
    Thought becomes inspired
    When thought is inspired
    We experience God’s Love
and see we are God’s life
    and know all goodness
    is present… and peace prevails

  7. Thanks a lot, dear Evan – love your SV of today very much.
thank you Willy – I also love to work with the page 393 in Science and Health. It shows that matter cannot feel or harm us – that needs to be demonstrated – here we have a lesson to learn. 🙂
