God speaks to you in many different ways.
Divine guidance often comes in the form of inspired ideas popping into consciousness showing the next step to take. But this is not always the case.
God’s help could come through another person sharing a wise perspective. It might come through reading a helpful book, (maybe a blog!), watching a morally instructive movie, studying nature, watching a child at play, or reviewing lessons learned.
God’s direction is not always as clear as a red or green light at a traffic intersection.
God’s finger could be a subtle impression in the background of thought that is gently nudging in a new direction. It could be a feeling of inner love or warmth that assures all is well and we need not fear. It could be a metaphysical “thump on the head,” in a lightning bolt moment of AHA, but more often God’s instruction is quiet and modest.
The key to benefiting from God’s help is to stay open to wherever it happens to come from.
If God is speaking to us through our wife, we need to pay attention! If God is speaking to us through our children, our neighbor, a co-worker, or a past experience, we need to listen.
God’s direction is not encroached upon by fear, worry or anxiety of any kind. It does not create anxiousness, tension or strain. It is not human will, motivated by anger, selfishness, pride or ego. It does not create a negative feeling in our thought. It is divine Love imparting love, and it brings deep peace.
God is speaking to you today, giving you exactly what you need to move ahead.
Listen! And you will hear.
Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21
Love this, Evan! I love knowing that if I feel anxious or confused about direction, that it is probably not God-directed direction. God’s directives bring peace, calm, and a sense of well being. Truly, I never thought of it in this way. I always thought that God speaks to us directly in our thoughts, never through other persons, places or things. Evan’s explanation would explain how God protected me quite a few years ago, when a medical doctor prescribed a medicine for me that had a very dangerous chemical in it. I realized some thing was wrong when the medicine cost much, much more then it should. It caused me to be suspicious enough to phone the Pharmacy to find out why the exuberant cost. I was protected without even realizing it.
I am so glad to have this blog this morning. I made a stupid mistake last night and have been trying so hard to figure out how to remedy it. But I have only been trying to use human reasoning to solve the problem. Now, I’m going to drop all that, put my mental hand in God’s, and humbly LISTEN for Him to speak to me, in whatever way the divine message will come. Thank you. SAS

Evan, I have experienced this so many times! Another example of God’s guidance is that still small voice that causes you to do or not do something you had thought of doing. My daughter had planned to ride home from a high school get-together with a very good friend, but when it came time to leave, she said something just made her want to stay a little longer, so she didn’t go with him. He was killed on his way home that night by a “drugged” driver. I have always known that it was God speaking to her. He speaks in many ways, as you say, and it behooves us to listen, not only to Him, but also for Him. But I still don’t understand why sometimes the good die young, as this terrific young man did. He had not even been drinking. Maybe he just wasn’t listening.
