Perhaps the single most important event in the history of mankind was the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. No small feat! Jesus proved for all eternity that death is not the end of existence. There is more. There is eternal life to enjoy—Life in Spirit, as Christian Science explains, where there is no death.
Jesus also taught that we needed to follow him to find eternal life. We all need to have a “crucifixion” of fleshly beliefs, and “resurrection” to Truth to find life in heaven.
Mary Baker Eddy gave a practical definition of resurrection that helps a follower understand how to successfully go where Jesus led.
She wrote, “Resurrection. Spiritualization of thought; a new and higher idea of immortality, or spiritual existence; material belief yielding to spiritual understanding” Science and Health, p. 593.
Humanity’s “resurrection” from mortal mindedness happens in degrees. Every time thought is spiritualized, even a little bit, thought gets closer to spiritual life and further from mortality. It’s a journey of many steps to arrive at the final destination.
So, have you taken a step today? Have you had a resurrection moment that gets you closer to where Jesus has gone before?
You don’t have to wait until Easter arrives to spiritualize your thought to a greater degree. You can do it now.
Happy Easter!
Happy Easter to you and your family, Evan (which is ALL mankind!) – I love Mrs.. Eddy’s definition of resurrection – thank you so much!
Christos anesti!!
May I wish you a Happy Easter and thank you for sighting in on our spiritualization of thought. The weekend begins and aligning our thoughts becomes a power tool for us.
Thanks, Bill
We resurrect daily, not just once a year when Easter appears. That’s just a human holiday. It seems to be needed to remind man of his spiritual birthright.
Happy Easter to all. Evan thank you so much for your so easy to remember words: “crucifixion” of fleshly beliefs, and “resurrection” to Truth. The pendant I always wear reminds me daily of what we celebrate at Easter, but also the cross reminds me of the challenges to be overcome to daily grow more and more spiritually to earn the crown. People often ask what the pendant means. Your 8 words will always be with me as an easy to understand definition. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Evan!
Here’s a nice expanded version of the 23rd Psalm:
The Twenty-Third Psalm
Author Unknown
The Lord is my shepherd;
THAT’S RELATIONSHIP
I shall not want.
THAT’S SUPPLY!
He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures:
THAT’S REST!
He leadeth me beside still waters.
THAT’S REFRESHMENT!
He restoreth my soul;
THAT’S HEALING!
He leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness
THAT’S GUIDANCE!
For His name’s sake.
THAT’S PURPOSE!
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
THAT’S TESTING!
I will fear no evil:
THAT’S PROTECTION!
For Thou art with me;
THAT’S REALISM!
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
THAT’S RELIANCE!
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
THAT’S COURAGE!
Thou anointest my head with oil;
THAT’S CONSECRATION!
My cup runneth over.
THAT’S ABUNDANCE!
Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life:
THAT’S A BLESSING!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
THAT’S SECURITY!
forever.
THAT’S ETERNITY!
Hey, I like this version! Thanks for sharing.
Smiles,
Happy Easter to all! Have a wonderful Easter service!
