Enjoy a peaceful Christmas season

December 13, 2023 | 33 comments

Mary Baker Eddy writes about Christmas:

I love to observe Christmas in quietude, humility, benevolence, charity, letting good will towards man, eloquent silence, prayer, and praise express my conception of Truth’s appearing. (Miscellany, p. 262).

May your Christmas season be blessed with the quietude and bliss of Truth’s appearing!

  1. Beautiful message today …thank you Evan. Plus the picture expresses the direction we must aim our thoughts and prayers to take.
As one individual of Gods eternal family , I wish the whole of His family ,with particular prayers of gratitude to our daily loving SV friends the most peaceful and fulfilling time during the next few weeks and of course also going forward. For, we are truly experiencing the wonder of Gods all encompassing
everlasting Love. Love to all. ❣️

  2. Thank you Evan and all Spiritview family for expressing so much love, caring and sharing. Christian Science is such a practical science and I will be ever grateful for knowing and learning more each day.
I know you will all have God’s blessings at this special time and always.

  3. Very grateful for SV. It is an essential part of the beginning of my day, every day. Along with the lesson and other things that I read or listen to it helps to get my thought on the right track for the day. Thank you, Evan, for your daily inspirations and guidance. Thank you to all the contributors for their valuable additions. I’m certain that there is substantial cost to Evan to continue to provide this forum and I’m sure that financial contributions would be welcome to help defray those costs. I know there used to be a link at the bottom of the page to make a donation, but for some reason I don’t see it now. Perhaps Evan can share the information for those who are willing and able to contribute. I do know that an at least one occasion in the past I had difficulty making a contribution through the link provided (which may be why I can no longer locate it today) but was able to make a donation via Zelle to Evan’s email address.

    1. Hi Gregg and thank you. I’m always glad when someone mentions donating to the upkeep of SpiritView. The link I’ve used is at the bottom of the About page. Click on the ‘About’ link at the top of this page and scroll down to the very bottom and there is the donation button. I’ve not had any problems using it. Hope this works for you and anyone inclined to give. Your determination to find another way to donate (through zelle) is admirable. Love and gratitude to Evan and to everyone here.

    2. Thank you everyone for all the different forms of support you send to SpiritView. It is appreciated and put to good use for the benefit of all.

  4. Oh, what a Beautiful, Peaceful message this morning! So serene and tranquil,
so filled with the calm, loving Spirit of Spiritview. Thank you so very much dear Evan,
graphic chooser, and all here contributing to make this such a holy, cherished
place to come to receive and share such lovely blessings of hope, joy, companionship
of like-minded fellow journey followers of the Truth. I Love Mrs. Eddy’s description
of Christmas above and the coinciding artwork of divine Peace is so comforting and
    reflects such harmony.
I was actually searching for the Christmas Morn hymn to share, but came upon
Hymn #236 which compliments perfectly this wonderful message this morning:

“O peace of the world, O hope in each breast, O Bethlehem star that ages have blessed,
A day of fresh promise breaks over the land, Gaunt warfare is doomed, and
    God’s kingdom at hand!..
From cannon and sword shape tillers of soil, No more let dire hate man’s spirit despoil,
Let Truth be proclaimed, let God’s love be retold, That men of good will may their
    brethren uphold…
As stars in their courses never contend, As blossoms their hues in harmony blend,
As bird voices mingle in joyful refrain, So God’s loving children in concord remain.
    Our God is one Mind, the Mind we adore; In effable joy, His love doth outpour;
Let nations be one in a union of love, God’s bountiful peace, all earth’s treasures above.”

    1. Thanks for Hymn 236 ! I don’t remember ever hearing or singing it in my life. I will definitely be using it in the 24th service.

      1. Dear Genestirling, I am unfamiliar with this hymn also, but thought it was
great for the topic today. I’m glad you found it helpful.

  5. Thank you Evan. Thank you all. Thank you for your donations too. Divine Love will guide me to to get through with mine. Let’s enjoy a peaceful Christmas season.

  9. Peace, goodwill and blessings to you, Evan, and your family. Thank you for all the
wonderful inspiration you have given us to think about and share. And peace,,goodwill and blessings to all our Spiritview family and for all the sharings and articles.

It is lovely to think of the real meaning of Christmas, and I love also words from another
    of Mrs. Eddy’s writings:

Christmas respects the Christ too much to submerge itself in merely temporary means and ends. …

The basis of Christmas is the rock, Christ Jesus; its fruits are inspiration and spiritual understanding of joy and rejoicing, — not because of tradition, usage, or corporeal pleasures, but because of fundamental and demonstrable truth, because of the heaven within us. The basis of Christmas is love loving its enemies, returning good for evil, love that “suffereth long, and is kind.” The true spirit of Christmas elevates medicine to Mind; it casts out evils, heals the sick, raises the dormant faculties, appeals to all conditions, and supplies every need of man. It leaves hygiene, medicine, ethics, and religion to God and His Christ, to that which is the Way, in word and in deed, — the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
(The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 259:28–29; 260:17)

  10. Thank you Maggie for your comment and thank you Carol for that hymn. I love that and the beautiful melody. While I read the words, the melody sang within me, wonderful! And thank you “J” always so much for your loving surching for suitable articles in JSH and giving it to us. They are always very very helpful for me.

  11. Thank you, Evan for this beautiful reminder via picture and Mrs. Eddy’s quote about the blessedness of the Christmas season. Thank you all and a blessed Christmas season and New Year to you. Your contributions are always appreciated.

I received a message to listen to The Christmas Story on Hymnstream. It is beautiful with readings from Isaiah, Matthew and Luke and piano music in the background. There is also a link on the page to “Christmas Light” with Hymns and instrumentals.
    Here is the link. Enjoy!!

    1. Thank you, dear Pat, that was very enjoyable and so nice to hear the True story of
Christmas (sans all the commercialism that mostly has nothing to do with the real
meaning) and detracts away from the humble sweet Jesus’ coming to the world,
and made manifest through the Christ for everyone for all time.
The hymns and instrumentals on the”Christmas Light” page are so beautiful, also.
Thank you for sharing the link with us. Lovely!
And Narrell, the link you shared is a very different version, but quite upbeat and
      happily sung. Thank you!

    1. Thanks very much, Narrell!
Wow, such a joyful and rythmical singing.
It is worked out as a wonderful Gospel singing. I love that very much!!♡

  12. Evan’s wonderful Spirit View contributions greatly appreciated – by an Episcopalian in England. I would be be pleased to make a modest financial contribution if there is a means.
