Rest your gaze in Mind

Where is your mental gaze resting today?  On the finite or the infinite?

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Mortals must look beyond fading, finite forms, if they would gain the true sense of things” (Science and Health, p. 264).

If we’re worried about how much money we have, for instance, and our mental gaze is fixed on a low checking account balance, we might get fearful about our financial prospects.  Thought is hypnotized by a finite sense of supply.  But if we remember that supply is spiritual, coming from God without limit in the form of inspired ideas and wise actions that bring good results, we won’t be distraught about the low balance in our checking account.  Our thought opens to the abundance of help coming from God that meets every human need.  We see solutions.

Mrs. Eddy continues, “Where shall the gaze rest but in the unsearchable realm of Mind?” (Science and Health, p. 264).

To defeat a limited sense of things, focus on the unlimited.  Let your mental gaze rest in the realm of infinite Mind.

See what divine Mind sees.  The finite always yields to the infinite.

  1. ROMANS 11:33-36

    (33)
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

    (34)
For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

    (35)
Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

    (36)
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

  2. What a beautiful and instructive SpiritView treatment, Evan. Thank you ever so much. I find your admonition not to focus on the finite to avoid being hypnotized by aggressive suggestion especially helpful. As I think about it, any focus on the finite sense of good is hypnotizing and prevents us from seeing and demonstrating the allness of God.

  3. Thank you, Evan. Especially meaningful to me is your reminder that focusing on what seems to be limited, whether it be finances, health, employment or any aspect of our lives, is to be hypnotized. It is relatively easy for me to rebel at the thought of allowing myself to be hypnotized. Today I will endeavor instead to “hold thought to the enduring the good and the true“, as Mary Baker Eddie counsels us.

  4. All good comments. I think Nancy left out one important word, “steadfastly”. This is not a criticism, just a clarification.

  5. Thank you so much for this lovely affirmation that Mind (God) guards us in our pathways
through life. When mortal or little – matter/limited, sneaky, stealthy “mind”, pretending
to be God, but is really just another form of deception of what is Real … tries to be in
control or governance of our divine being, we have the guidance to see it for what it is –
an imposter of the Truth … Our real intelligence (Mind), that is always lovely, always in
perfect harmony with what unites our God-Given Principle and power, helps us to
realize to not be tricked or hypnotized into believing in another form of materiality that
would try to take away our truthful identity as a child of God. God’s Love is so present
in our lives, any false sense of governance or power fades away into a Peace that needs
no assistance in having us Truly feel our real, lovable – us .

  6. This is a good message for me today. I awoke to the noise of workers apparently tearing down the roof of the house next door to me. The house is close, just a few feet apart. Debris, dirt and roof tiles were pouring down, hitting my windows. They had covered their house fully with tarps top to bottom but no protection for our house. I got agitated and ran out there angrily insisting they cover up our house and I then notified my landlord of what was happening. Soon I realized I needed to calm down and bless everyone involved because we are all God’s children, blessed and guided by Him. I was praying to know that God is in charge of the whole situation and that no harm or damage could occur. I remembered that only Divine Love is present. Dealing with this seeming chaos I ended up leaving late for work and then missed my train but I’m at peace because I know All is Well in God. Keeping my gaze on Truth.

  7. Sometimes I am astonished at how completely and perfectly Love communicates. On my commute to work this morning, the word ‘LIMITLESS’ came so prominently to thought – after which I read your blog, Evan.

A message loud and clear – how could one not pay attention?

    Thank you!

  8. Before going to bed at night, I like to look out the window at the beautiful, expansive universe of the stars and moon. To me, this view hints at spiritual reality and is a reminder to think outside the “box” of limited human thinking (i.e., a body, lack, opinions, drama, etc.). But it’s comforting to know that we are never really in the “box” because we live in the consciousness of Mind as God’s beloved children. “In Him we live, move and have our being in…”. (Acts 17:28)

  9. Thank you very much. dear Evan for your always healing advises. This time for me it’s about the spiritual source of our abundent supply whch is of course our Father-Mother God! But sometimes worries try to creep in and will tell us that we lack enough supply. It’s a wonderful truth given us by Mrs. Eddy in SH that we shall rest our gaze only in the unsearchable realm of Mind. There all our needs are met. Thank you God!

Thank you very much, dear “J” for sharing that inspiring article with us all. It’s so good that I will read it again tomorrow as now here it’s sleeping time.
