Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth.
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 485
To demonstrate Life in Spirit, human thought must emerge from material sense to spiritual sense. A limited material sense of things must be left behind to experience Life without limit in Spirit.
“Emerge gently…” reminds us that it’s not brute force, steely mortal determination, or blind will that is going to get the job done. It’s humility, meekness, patience, poise, and grace that more readily receive the inspirations of Truth that lift thought to heavenly heights.
“Emerge gently,” is not to be used as an excuse to not emerge, or to give up trying to emerge. It’s a beautiful command to stay calm, trust that the ideas you need are coming from God in a timely way, and that you will have everything you need every moment to make progress.
“Emerge gently” is another way of saying “Unfold gently.” Let God’s idea unfold before you and lead the way forward.
Don’t act out of ignorance or self-will. Act with understanding. Do what makes sense to you at the time, and trust God’s grand plan to keep unfolding before you as your understanding of spiritual truth keeps growing.
The above is so beautifully expressed..
One take way for me is to not be critical of oneself as we emerge.. As in the Prodigal Son Bible story God is running to me us and welcoming us with open arms.
We are His beloved..
Thank you Evan as always for this timely reminder for me. I particularly responded to your comment “stay calm” and John’s comment “not to be critical of oneself” as I have done something that I consider to be really stupid and am struggling to get past it. Both of you have helped me – thank you.
P.S. Love the picture
Gracias Profesor Evans !! Abrazos
Gracias, Ramona,
Here it is in English:
Thank you Professor Evans!! It’s good what I needed to confirm. God is so loving that he never leaves us unanswered. My prayer work already brought me the answer through your comment. Thank you, thank you very much!! My address is correct and I wait for the conclusion of Infinite Love for and until the battle dissipates and Love confirms the cure. I know that there is no power opposite to God. His Only power always prevails and good is always present!! Hugs
That is just a perfect idea for me this morning as I watch healing take place .
I love that sense of ‘ humility, meekness, patience, poise, and grace ‘ required of us in our spiritual journey towards a clearer vision of our oneness with God
What an absolutely splendid and powerful lesson – thank you! I, too, love the picture!
that God runs to each of us with open arms.
.Jeepers, please stretch that thought, ….thank you John!
that the mirroring, reflecting the action, ‘running’ with glee, no remorse, or doubts…what can hold ‘One’ back from being embraced with thy Wholeness of Love, sincerity certainty confidence, what meekness reverberating with each breathe excepting Divine Truth within…wow.
sound Mind..
The picture of a butterfly is a lesson for us. The chrysalis is all around the idea
of the butterfly, like God’s protecting love is around each one of us – and as the
idea of the butterfly develops within its protective surroundings according to
the law which is governing it, so are we developing within God’s protecting Love
around us, according to law of God, which is causing us to grow into a beautiful spiritual idea
The chrysalis doesn’t have to do anything but let the law governing it care for
it, and respond to that law until it gently emerges into a beautiful butterfly.
So we don’t have to try to do anything ourselves, but let the law of Love govern
and guide us, until we gently emerge into God’s beautiful image and likeness.
We may not see or be aware of any of this happening with the material senses, because it
is a spiritual birth, and nothing to do with matter.
I don’t know if I have put this all correctly, and someone may want to
elaborate or correct it. But I love the thought of such a beautiful creature
as a butterfly emerging from what seems to the material senses, not a
very promising picture.
Maggie, you put that all beautifully. I love the picture you paint of the butterfly emerging gently.
Evan and John, the message is beautiful. the thought of “Let go and let God” came to mind as we emerge and follow God’s way.
Loving spiritual growth to all.
Thank you Evan, for this lesson around the gentle, loving command from our dear leader. I’m inspired to follow the directive to continue emerging, gracefully. Blessings!
Thank you, Evan. I really needed this today and especially “it’s not brute force, steely
mortal determination, our blind will that is going to get the job done”. mortal mind
has many forms of “emerging” and may incorrectly Seem to be good or reality, but
are not. Sometimes we are misunderstood (lacking One Mind) and mortal mind
sneaks in with it’s own will power – making it Seem like a god, but there is only One God/Mind/Truth. As Mrs. Eddy writes, “we must let that Mind be in you, like was
also in Christ Jesus” and on pg. 281 of S&H and beyond, she writes, “when we put
off the false sense for the true, and see that sin and mortality have neither Principle
nor permanence, we shall learn that sin and mortality are without actual origin or
rightful existence. They are native nothingness, out of which error would simulate
creation through a man formed from dust”. And also, on 143 and beyond, “Mind
[God] is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived
from Mind” (and then) “Inferior and unspiritual methods of healing may try to make
Mind and drugs coalesce, but the two will not mingle scientifically. Why should we
wish to make them do so, since no good can come of it?”
Only through Spiritual sense to Soul can we emerge into the True creation of our being.
No form of mortal mind can create the Real us, that unites harmony. Anything else is
an imposter of Truth.
So much gratitude for today’s Spiritview message and for the loving comments. I agree with John about not being critical of oneself as we emerge. Thank you!
Awesome!
Thank you very much indeed, dear Evan for today’s beautiful SpiritView!
The passage from Mrs. Eddy on page 485 in Science and Health is very important, and you explained it very gently and lovingly and so reasonable, and I am very grateful that I can understand it very well. And it is very helpful, inspiring and healing, and it does me very good including all the loving comments!
Thanks for the pretty and inspiring picture of the butterfly! 🙂
