Vigor, freshness, and promise

December 30, 2025 | 26 comments

If you’re ever tempted to believe that advancing years are a threat to your health and freedom of movement, be quick to cancel that belief and replace it with a deeper understanding of Life in Spirit.

The Life God has given you to live is not affected by the passing of time.  It’s always full, complete, whole, active, vital, and healthy.

It doesn’t matter if you are 15 or 95 in earth time.  Life is still the same.  Perfect with God!

The more we understand the spiritual truth about Life, the more we experience its freedoms.

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Except for the error of measuring and limiting all that is good and beautiful, man would enjoy more than threescore years and ten and still maintain his vigor, freshness, and promise.  Man, governed by immortal Mind, is always beautiful and grand” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 246).

Keep living the “beautiful and grand” Life of God.  There isn’t anything missing or lacking in this Life.  It sustains you at 100% without fail.  Now and forever.

  1. What a wonderful post to start the “ New Year “ – NEW year ? Newness is unlimited , ceaseless ,
    EVER unfolding – timeless !!
Thank you Evan for this reminder to keep constantly alert – not to become a victim of mortal mind’s fraudulent suggestions of limitation . Throw out the lies and joyfully celebrate our God given ,
    Abundant Life .

  2. Such lovely truths to read just before bed ( in Australia). This is just what I’m needing to hear. Thank you, Evan and all

  3. What an absolutely magnificent treatment, Evan. Thank you ever so much. Mortal mind is pouring forth its lies about aging on nearly every front. It is blunt and yet very subtle in its approach — from television commercials to personal information recorded at the local gym. We need to “Stand porter,” and stay alert throughout the day while always remembering that to live in Spirit under the solid protection of God’s law is an eternal promise.

    1. Thank you Bob, yes mortal mind does seem to pour forth it’s typical lies about aging and all sorts of other erroneous messages. And more importantly and most powerfully, Divine Love is always pouring forth Truth and right ideas and pure good to God’s beloved children. As you say so nicely, we are living “under the solid protection of God’s law.”

Thank you Evan for the reminder that God sustains us at 100% vigor, freshness and promise without fail, now and forever.

    1. Wonderful, thank you very much, dearest J ! ❤️
A very helpful article abt. God’s law of progress. In CS I understand that God’s law of progress is going on steadily and we express it as God’s loved child! God guides us every step. Thats very comforting!
Thank you very very much dear Evan for your needed SV abt. no aging. Mrs. Eddy says in SH that time is no part of iternity. I shortly read this truth “we are as old as God is” – ageless! Am deeply grateful for your helpful daily loving treats!
      – Joyful, happy New Year dearest Evan and a l l ! ❤️

    2. This is such a helpful article. Thank you, J.
Let there be light and let us turn more to God and what he knows about us – our present harmonious unchanging perfection

  4. May I share with you that I often claim truths similar to the following during my daily prayers for myself:-

    I am God’s perfect idea –
I was never born into matter; I have never been conditioned by matter, or into matter, therefore I can never be sick in matter, grow old in matter, or die out of matter I am immortal, spiritual, ageless, brand new every moment as the image or reflection of God.

    1. Thank you for sharing Maggie, wonderful!

Thank you for this post Evan, perfectly meets the thought of a “New” Year.

I do love Mrs Eddy’s spiritual interpretation of day and of course a “New” year is an expression of an infinitude of . . .

“Day. The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love.”

New Year is rather a big deal in Scotland, as celebrating the Holy Day (holiday) of Christmas was outlawed in the 17th Century, a law which was not repealed until the late 1950’s.

As we say to each other in Scotland, “All the best for the bells” (ringing in the New Year) to Evan and this wonderful community of Spirit Viewers

  5. WHOO-HOO!!! Going to be working with my dance coach today, and I will definitely be able to put this wonderful, heavenly inspiration into direct practice as I step out onto the dance floor this afternoon. Greatly appreciated! Thank you, Evan, and everyone.

  6. A wonderful way of seeing ourselves and others – spiritual and ageless
and Perfect in God’s eyes! And as Mrs. Eddy wrote in S&H pg 171 …
“man … [including women] …will find himself unfallen, upright, pure
and free, not needing to consult almanacs for the probabilities either
of his life or of the weather, not needing to study brainobogy to learn
how much of a man he is”. – “We need not see ourselves or others as
flawed mortals, laboriously seeking out self-improvement in the hope
of finding an illusory state of perfection … when we start reasoning
from a mistaken understanding of God and man, we get off track in our
conclusions”, (from the article J shared with us above – Thank you, J!)
We are constantly bombarded with advertisements – “there’s a pill for
that” – mentality that tries to make us anything other than perfect – in needing
this product or that product to make us a better person. We are Perfect
as God created us – what a blessing!
In believing in all of the many mortal ways of the world, we are just trying to
improve matter, or find comfort in matter, instead of spiritually being in the
Life of God, “beautiful and grand”.

  7. This topic reminds me of the woman who stayed young, mentally and
physically as described in Science and Health , page 245:
“The error of thinking that we are growing old, and the benefits of destroying
that illusion, are illustrated in a sketch from the history of an English woman,
published in the London medical magazine called The Lancet.
Disappointed in love in her early years, she became insane and lost all
account of time. Believing that she was still living in the same hour which
parted her from her lover, taking no note of years, she stood daily before the
windows watching for her lover’s coming. In this mental state she remained
young. Having no consciousness of time, she literally grew no older. Some
American travelers saw her when she was seventy-four, and supposed her
to be a young woman. She had no care-lined face, no wrinkles nor gray hair,
but youth sat gently on cheek and brow. Asked to guess her age, those
unacquainted with her history conjectured that she must be under twenty…
Years had not made her old, because she had taken no cognizance of passing
time nor thought of herself as growing old. The bodily results of her belief
that she was young manifested the influence of such a belief. She could not
age while believing herself young, for the mental state governed the physical”.

    1. Yes, I always find that story helpful. Carol. But we don’t
need to obtain a deranged mind to achieve it.!! It’s
really understanding the truth about our being immortal and ageless, isn’t it. believing it, and acting in accord with this understanding. Not allowing the suggestions of the general world beliefs about ageing to slip into our thoughts with its limitations.

      1. So True, Maggie. Thank you for pointing that out. General
world beliefs would have us believing that youthfulness,
physical standards that go along with it – are what is
important in life, but we are believing in matter, if we
fall for mortal limitations and goals. Our perfection is
already achieved when understood through the
        Spiritual lens of Truth.

  8. I have been relating the “old age” scenario to disobedience. Upon looking up more on this topic I ran across an article in the 1948. Journal by John Sidney Braithewaite entitled The Four Rivers Of Eden. I found it very enlightening with a spiritual perspective of why Adam was excluded from Eden after his disobedience. Something that left him as an aging mortal. I am sorry I do not have a link.

    1. It does work – thank you Truus. I have just had a quick read and it is really interesting. I will go back and study it more closely later. Thank you .

  9. I am standing watch today as a sentinel in the high desert of Oregon.
the end of this December I just witnessed something the “old story” said was impossible and the mundane might overlook….vibrant green grass pushing through a crack in the frozen cement.
Is anyone else finding the “unseasonable life pushing through the frost today?
