Shake it off

January 21, 2026 | 10 comments

If fear wants to take over and captivate your attention, there’s something you can do to stop it.  Rather than entertaining its drama and letting it take over, shake it off. Focus on God’s power and presence instead.

I explain how in this vlog that was filmed on the shore of Avalanche Lake, in Glacier National Park, in Montana when Kathy and I visited the area in August 2025.

  1. Very helpful! PS we were in Glassier Park in August 2025 also! Beautiful place! I appreciate your videos too!

  2. Thank you, Evan.

I have gained success with stating, “Oh I know what you are, you are just a suggestion.” when things pop up angling for attention. I rush to greet it and mow it down. No room at the inn for such silliness.

  3. Thank you, Evan. So muvh error trying to take hold right now, I will continue to “Shake it off!”. So grateful for Christian Science!

  4. Thank you, Evan. I will endeavor to shake off the mortal thoughts that are intruding and thank you John B – send the suggestion right back to it’s nothingness, I like this.

  5. Thank you, Evan, and everyone with such good comments. I need to get better and quicker at Shaking Off the viper.
    This idea reminds me—
You must control evil thoughts in the first instance, or they will control you in the second.

  6. Training thoughts to shaking off a viper, NOT allowing those evil thoughts to control you,
leads to peace and Love; where there is no danger, which can be shared, to calm thought. What a lesson we learn, as we practice, practice, practice.

  7. Thank you, Evan, for the helpful message, and the beautiful scenery
It means springing into action immediately, before the lie
gets a hold on our thoughts. It’s a bit like dropping a very hot potato in order
not to be burned, and it should be as natural as that to shake off
the sneaky serpent before it has a chance to fool us.
