Prayer for world peace

April 16, 2026 | 27 comments

I love this poem.  A powerful reminder of what we all can do to contribute to world peace.

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.

With God our creator, we are family.

Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.

With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:

To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally!

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

  1. This was my high school hymn many years ago. We sang it at every assembly. It’s beautiful and I reflect on it often. Thank you, Evan, for this reminder of how we can contribute to world peace.

  2. I went to a Unity Church a couple of times, as I heard they have a similar understanding of God as CS, ( and they do too!) . It was a lovely and relaxed meeting ! At the end of the service everyone there ( about 30 people) all formed a circle and held hands to sing this song which as wonderful! Such a positive way to finish up.
Now I’m very happy to find it is in the CS hymn book too!

    1. I looked up Unity Church, and it does sound very
similar, I agree. I feel safer though knowing that Mary Baker Eddy
discovered the actual spiritual laws that Christ Jesus lived and demonstrated, and the spiritual understanding growing out of
these laws when put into practice in our daily lives are effective, as
they are based on a perfect Principle. But I don’t know any more about them than I have read on-line. They must be doing a lot
of good from what I have read.

      1. Thank you very much dear Maggie!
I think and feel the same, as you explained about the Christ Science that Mrs Eddy gave us including the healing demonstration Christ Jesus teaches us. So grateful for it!!

        1. Yes, dear Uta – I feel safe following the teachings of Christian Science, because even though it may take a long time to find our freedom from a problem, I know that it is the truth, and that the divine laws are always in operation, and we can be sure that they will reveal to us what we need to know as we hold to them and do our best to live them. Sometimes the healing is quick, but if it is not, we know that we are learning all the time, and
finding an inner strength as we let Christ lead us. This week’s Lesson very helpful, as we
find our one-ness with God through a deeper understanding gained.

          1. Maggie, my journey into metaphysics began with Norman Vincent Peale’s Power of Positive Thinking; he mentioned Unity so I subscribed to their monthly booklet & found it very comforting. However at a time of great difficulty–agoraphobia & panic attacks–I called the local Unity church {I was not yet a member as we’d just moved there} to ask for help, instead of being led to speak with someone, I was told to come to the Sunday service–I was crushed! Yet, I was soon to find the truth of ‘All things work together for good’. A mother’s love will forge ahead no matter the fear so in arranging for a photo seesion for one of my daughters, it was suggested I check out the shops nearby & what did I find? A CS Society with a box outside holding Journals & Sentinels; I took several, began to read them–even angrily tossing one across the room telling myself they were ‘too good to be true’! But the healing had begun & I’m grrateful to say that CS was the answer. I might add that Unity has elements of Mrs. Eddy’s teaching BUT it only goes so far–unless it has grown a great deal, the medical & worldly view is still prevalent–an article years ago insisted that if healing {as in CS} prevailed without medical intervention, the economic impact of the end of all that material medicine includes, would be devastating! IOW, it must be maintained for the ‘good of mankind’–you can see why I’m so thankful for being led to CS!

          2. Thank you, Nan – that is very interesting.
I think everyone will eventually be led to find C.S., as I am convinced it has the complete answer to all problems. After
all, Mrs, Eddy went through so many trials, and applied the rules she discovered, and they worked every time. And when you study it, and
prove it it even small ways, it makes
complete sense. I’m very grateful for
Mrs. Eddy, for all she did for us to
            help us understand the scriptures
            spiritually.

  3. What a lovely poem, thank you for sharing.

I always find it very helpful to declare a quote I once read from, I think, one of the writings of Herbert Rieke, although I don’t remember the name of the article (might be paraphrasing slightly):

“Right where I am is nothing but the Infinite Mind manifesting itself.”

And then to know that this is the reality right here right now. That for me is how we ‘let peace begin with me’.

If everything around me is nothing but the infiinite Mind manifesting itself, there is no where and no thing that cannot be peaceful and harmonious, no matter how tempting the opposite picture may seem to be.

As Myrtle Smith tells us in one of her amazing lectures (I think it is Prayer that Heals, on youtube), we should pray to see through war and turmoil. They have no reality in Divine Mind.

    1. I did too! Way back in the 50’s and 60’s. That lovely camp song has been included in my prayers ever since I learned it. . I was thrilled when it appeared in the new hymnal.

  4. “When the illusion” of conflict, hatred, confusion, warring-opposition, unresolved issues, chaos, sin, sickness, disease, death” tempts us to believe these aggressive-reports….what are we spiritual warriors
    to DO?
“Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good…” (Mary Baker Eddy)

    Pretty clear.

Time to put in the whole armor of God!
Remembering all the while that evil in all its forms is illusive, unreal, and a “defeated foe.”

  5. Thank you. … I remember this …words so meaningful now .thank you for the reminder …so needed .

  6. Thankyou Evan, so much needed. I’ll be reading this often. also Thankyou SV family such inspirational thoughts, SPIRIT VIEW is such a BLESSING

  7. The thought came to me that True peace is not only when it is needed at
certain times, whenever convenient, but requires constantly filtering
what we are taking in. If we are worshipping a mortal body or only
surroundings of matter, as being our focus, we are not truly helping
ourselves or others when we dwell on the “material”. Trying to keep
our thought in places that inspire – limitless spiritual qualities, rather
than those that bring peace only for the temporary, but leave us always
looking and searching for more – is the CS and divine way that is Always
harmonious. This is true in world peace and within ourselves.
Mrs. Eddy writes, “Through the discernment of the spiritual opposite
of materiality, even the way through Christ, Truth, man will reopen with
the key of divine Science the gates of Paradise which human beliefs have
closed, and will find himself unfallen, upright, pure and free, not needing to
consult almanacs for the probabilities either of his life or of the weather, not
needing to study brainology to learn how much of a man he is.”
Stormy thinking and thinking of material gain, territory, control over others,
creates turmoil, whereas peaceful thinking delights us with spiritual harmony,
individually and collectively and then there truly is – peace on earth.

    1. Absolutely everything Barbara Cook Spencer has written is just brilliant . Highly recommend “ No Borrowed Bones “ as well

      1. P.S. – Diane W, thank you for recommending “No Borrowed Bones.” I am so thankful to have been directed to read this article by Ms. Spencer, and I join you in “highly recommending” it. Her beautiful assessment of Mrs. Eddy’s womanhood, and her calling as the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science brought me to tears. Thank you.

        1. Thank you, J, for providing another excellent complementary article to Evan’s SpiritView. Barbara Cook Spencer has often written detailed yet clear articles about the human and the divine coincidence. She never disappoints and always enlightens. Thank you so much, J!

    1. Thank you, SpiritViewFan. The name is a tribute to and
inclusion of – a dear friend who is no longer “with us”
on this mortal plane of existence, but who is very much
with us in Spirit, as we all are here.

  8. I love Christian Science. What separates it from other religious beliefs is the Scientific Statement of Being. All is Mind – there is no matter. So grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her discovery.
