Thank you Evan. MBE urged us in Miscellaneous Writings:
“work, work, work, watch and pray”. Then also God is with us laboring.
Lazyness does not belong to God`s child, as it is no quality of God.
Like the 10 lepers, I want to give thanks like the one did. I hope to never hear, “where are the other nine?” Thank u Evan. Always enjoy your thoughtful comments, Uta. U add to the “harvest.”
Oh, those proverbs. Nothing is more contemporary. And of crucial importance. Science and Health says, “Idleness is the foe of progress.”
Little children have an utter joy in diligence and industry. I need to remember that.
I must, like them, love the high goal.
I must efface mortal ‘me’ and its discouragement, self-doubt and love of amusement and ease.
MBE says “First purify thought, then put thought into words, and words into deeds” MIS 341
and “Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind…” SH 60 [infinite ideas, infinite energy, infinite ability] –so if we’re out to bless mankind, all we need to do it with is right at hand.
More Proverbs– some make me laugh out loud.
“The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.”
“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.”
And my favorite:
“The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets!
As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.”
And all his opportunities slammed shut.
I mean, what in God’s great heaven has the power from keeping us from doing God’s good work? We’re set to work at what God’s already done, and the world needs it desperately.

Let’s not be calling people “lazy.” I once got an Angel message loud and clear, “ I want you to stop doing things for the money.” Whoa! the last thing I ever expected to hear! As I had very sparse income. There is a wonderful article in the September 2005 Journal by Elaine Follis, called THE PROMISE OF PERFECTION. “Perfection as Jesus taught it has nothing to do with admirable conduct or outstanding achievements. It isn’t a human condition to be won.” The Article is based on the Prophet Jeremiah who was a wreck of a person according to human standards. They called him the weeping Prophet because if his emotional outbursts. Just one example of using human standards as a measuring stick for Spirituality. To all appearances Jeremiah was the last person you’d think would be chosen. This is true of many chosen to carry out God’s work. Evan, you have often been spot on in your entries and I admire your dedication to this sight that has touched and encouraged many. But calling people “lazy” ? Not a call we get to make about others.
Dear Charla, Evan quotes the Bible… The Bible is God’s word. It is not about getting money. It is about working hard and being successful in making progress, isn’t it? It seems to me that it is not possible to be successful (and I do not mean ‘successful’ just materially) without hard work. To gain spirituality will meet your every need. But this is hard work.
Laziness is not correct. I had a co-worker, who did not do her work. All she did not want to do, she left other people do, while she took long breaks and was chatting with everybody and telling everybody that she had too much work to do. I call this being lazy and it is not a behaviour which reflects God as Life.
We are all learning and God is guiding each of us on our way heavenward :-). We have to learn different things at different moments in our lives. Not working for money does not mean to be lazy.

Oh sorry, the quote offended you. That was not the intention. It’s a quote from Proverbs, and when I read it, I read, “The lazy thought….”
Christian Science has taught me to always impersonalize statements like this and look for the metaphysical message behind it. I would never call a person lazy. You are right on that account! Judge not. God didn’t create a lazy person. God created children who are productive and profitably engaged in their own individual special way. And what may look like lazy to one person, may be productive for another. But there is an aspect of mortal mind that can get “lazy,” and expect much without investing anything in return. I think that is what the Proverb was referring to.

charla I don’t think this is referring to physically lazy people…. but more about staying the spiritual course…. watch work & pray. well thats what I took it for, but had to think twice about it!!
I am so sorry that I commented at all. My apologizes to all. From the responses, you too, have no idea what I was talking about. I understand very well it is not speaking about physical inactivity. My comments were referring to judging and calling people names. It is also a lesson on how easily we can be misunderstood. Blessings and Goodwill to all.

And that helps to find a healing solution. I find this Blog so lovingly, helping each other in case of misunderstanding or having questions!

Labels are just that a label, not necessarily the truth. I know our only true label is child of God!
I do like Proverbs13:4 though in that if I in my human experience hope for things and would like to accomplish things and I do nothing to accomplish my goal to include praying and listening to the right direction for my goals, then I need to alter what I do. So I am knowing that as a Child of God I can do all things, and I will listen to His angel messages. I do not want to be a sluggard craving (proverbs 13:4 English Standard Version). Thank you all!
Yay Charla! I Agree! When Mrs. Eddy talks about “Work, Work, Work…..” she is referring to Spiritual, Mental Work, not physical labor. I have known too any people, CSers included, who have had the “workaholic complex” – maybe due to this quote or due just to the old guilt-inducing idea that you have to be physically working alllllll the time to prove your worth to God, etc. I have seen Marriages ruined because either the Husband or Wife never took time out to Play and Enjoy Life! We are meant to have Fun and take time for Pleasure and Enjoy this Beautiful Life we have been given. Once again, I see comments on this site that seem to be taking the Bible literally and that is not Christian Science! “Work” in C.S. means to be thinking correctly and That does take Work! If you are thinking correctly and scientifically, your physical human work will unfold naturally and in just the right balance with the rest of your Life!

Charla I am so grateful for your comments as they opened up alot of discussion that was so helpful to good reflection.
The sharing that followed your thoughts brought so much clarification for me. again I say I am so grateful for you openly sharing your thoughts. I am also very grateful for Evan’s further sharing. That proverb and MBE’s are now more helpful to me.Spiritual work is always the most important and the most productive. I think MBE says somewhere that rushing around smartly is no proof of accomplishing much.
I appreciate all your comments. Because of all this talk about the word “lazy” I went to my handy little dictionary and looked it up: “Resistant to work or exertion; slothful,” As students of C.S. we want to follow the tenets, the Sixth one which states, “And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus, to do unto others as we would have them do unto us, and to be merciful, just, and pure.” That about covers it—no judging, no resistance to what we are called to do and be. If we all followed this, we would change the world! And we wouldn’t be LAZY!
On the lighter side…did you know in the US that today is “National Lazy Day”.

I find that every situation in life that presents itself is all about love . .and the need to love even more! . Let’s love and embrace everyone in thought as we walk through our own journeys.
Everyone has a human story that seems to be told. Looking on though, we never truly know just how difficult one’s individual journey is or has been. So, I have learned it is best to focus only on the Divine journey. Spending time with Him always promotes spiritual progress and healing and as a result, we find when we interact with others throughout our day, we can only see blessings come our way.
