A different angle on happiness

“Happiness is not the absence of problems, it’s the ability to deal with them.”

~ Steve Maraboli

Oftentimes people in trouble moan, “Oh, if this trouble would only go away, I’d be happy again.” That may be true, but it doesn’t help to solve the problem.

Prayer, wisdom, understanding, strength, courage, health and love coming from God solve the problem. And exercising them in face of a trouble to reach a successful outcome is often a generator of great happiness, too.

  1. Thank you so much, dear Evan, for this easter present this morning. And it helps me very much. It leads my thoughts to Gods healing qualities, which you mentioned here.
here in Germany the day started with bright sunshine and a strong wind which plays with the leaves and the springflowers and the gras. Thats also life to me. If you look up the word “wind” in the glossar of Mrs. Eddy`s textbook, you can see that its the power of God in operation.
Happy Eastermonday to everybody (its a holy day here in Germany).

  2. When I have a problem, I am miserable if I can’t solve it. But with the understanding that C/S gives me to understand God all things bad can be solved. This is the gate opened to solve the problem and enables me to be happy given the ability to solve it.

  3. Thank you, Evan! I used to think there was something bad and wrong with me if I had problems…..Then, as I grew, I learned that EVERYONE has problems and in fact – that’s the whole point of Being Here – to learn and grow by confronting problems head on and solving them! And learning how to solve problems from a higher spiritual perspective is best of all, for by doing that we are fulfilling our true purpose as human beings…….to grow spiritually, to grow closer to God, and to realize more of our true spiritual self. Is there any other true path to follow?

  4. Just reminded me of one of my favorite thoughts. I love to work with God but best of all i love to watch God work!

    1. Beautiful and inspiring thought. Thank you for sharing. I am struggling with several issues after the passing of my husband, Bob King, who introduced me to CS. I am truly grateful for your blog Evan, and all the wonderful comments and inspiring thoughts of others. I have watched the trees outside my bedroom window change from the light spring green to a deeper lush green. I love watching the wind stir the leaves knowing God is constantly breathing life into all things.

  5. We have all heard so many times that problems are really opportunities. Still, when one of these “opportunities” comes up, I certainly have a moment when it’s definitely a problem. Then I remember that it’s an opportunity, with Christian Science to help, for me to grow in my understanding of what is true about God’s entire creation which includes me. Then I embark on mastering this opportunity and achieving healing. I’m so grateful for Christian Science. Thank you Evan for these daily lessons and to all who lend their remarks to them.

  6. Yes of course, if we only understand that God, who created us, is also responsible for our well being and takes charge of all our problems (just as parents of an infant are totally and absolutely responsible for the infants well being, and the infant is all the time happy and does not worry at all, no matter what) then we would be less troubled, less hassled and more at peace and happy always.
When faced with a health issue, or financial problem, relationship problem, job issues, accommodation problem or any other issue, we can deal with it happily and calmly if we know that we have the full backing and support of our divine parent – God.
Humanly we only struggle. Allow God to take charge of our life, knowing and understanding fully well, that He alone is responsible for our happiness and well being. Then step aside. God will guide us and lead our way to a wonderful solutions to all our tensions and problems, supplying and meeting all our needs abundantly.
All we need is that unflinching, unwavering faith in God’s supreme goodness, His infinite all pervading love and His divine capacity to resolve all our challenges.
“Look unto me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is none else.”
