An empowering attitude

“Always be humble and gentle.”

~ Ephesians, 4:2, NLT

Humility and gentleness go a long way in maintaining healthy happy relationships. Humility allows the presence of divine Love to come into our relationships with others, and gentleness provides opportunity for God’s tender touch to be felt.

Humility is not caving to another’s evils and letting them inflict abuse. Humility is a calm convicted demeanor of what is right that does not cave to evil but brings the corrective power of Truth to bear on the situation and improves it, utilizing grace, dominion and authority to get the better results.

  1. Humility is a calm convicted demeanor of what is right that does not cave to evil but brings the corrective power of Truth to bear on the situation and improves it, utilizing grace, dominion and authority to get the better results.

…”utilizing grace, dominion, and authority to get the better results.” How simply beautiful this statement is. Thank you!

  2. Thank you Evan. Exactly! Humility and meekness are not weak but strong and confident in the truth willing to stand up for compassion and gentleness with the knowledge and wisdom in the truth of divine love.

  3. Thank you Evan. It’s interesting how often I have come across an article in the periodicals that ties into the topic of your daily blogs. Last night I happened to read a Sentinel article entitled “Victory over resentment” by Martha Sarvis. One thing that struck me in her article is the importance of guarding our thought against “animal tendencies”. Many people believe humans have evolved from animals and if you buy into that belief, it would be natural to “lash out” at others like an animal when you feel someone has insulted or harmed you. But as we are taught in Christian Science, our true identities are “evolved from Spirit” (see S&H 69:2-5) and therefore we reflect spiritual qualities (as described in Evan’s blog today), not animal qualities. I found this idea very helpful and if you want to read the article I’ve provided a link below.

    1. Brian,
Thank you for your thoughtfulness at posting these links everyone can enjoy. I always enjoy the articles you share. 🙂

      1. Thank you Kirsten. FYI…If you want to create a shareable link to JSH-Online, you just click on the “Share” button at the top of the article, then click on the envelop icon. You can then email the article to yourself. When you get the email, copy and paste the link (URL) out of the email you get into SpiritView or share it with other people other ways (facebook, twitter, etc.). You may be able to just copy and paste the link out of the dialog that pops up when you click on the envelope icon, but I’ve never tried that.

When I was very young (before I started school) my Aunt took care of me during the day because my mom worked. My Aunt was on the “distribution committee” at our local CS Church. So she and I would drive around town putting copies of the Sentinel and Journal in “distribution boxes” in places like laundromats, post offices, and other public places. So I can say I’ve been helping to share the periodicals since the time I learned to walk! lol

        1. Brian,

Thank you! I will try that next time for sharing links.

How wonderful! Having those periodicals in public places was a big help to me many years ago when I was doing a little forest firefighting out of college in Oregon. I had an issue I was working on and a couple of the guys on my crew found some C.S. periodicals, I believe in a laundromat, and brought them to me. It was a big help. So, thank you for helping your aunt do that! 🙂

  4. Oh dear Evan, you hit the nail on the head again today. Thank you for your reminding us at our real doings, namely to pray that we may reflect only God`s qualities. And humility and gentleness are some of the most wanted and important qualities. They stem from Love and reflect Love.

I know instances where I really needed and still need to express these utmost precious qualities in order to maintane good and wanted friendships. I am very thankful that Christian Science corrects and renews man as also the Bible says.

Thank you Brian, your links to the articles are always very welcomed, specially because you send them in full, also readable for non-subscribers.

    1. Hi Uta, You’re welcome! I tried to post links you could use to the two articles mentioned a few days ago in the “Seek the sweets of Truth” blog, but my comment got blocked. But I wanted you to know that I had tried since you are always so kind to express gratitude when I do post the shareable links. 🙂

      1. Yes thank you very much Brian for your effort some days ago. I am always grateful for your helpful links. And I am sure many other commenters are thankful for your links, too. 🙂

The Journal-article “Seek the sweets of Truth” I found meanwhile in our reading room; because every beginning new year we give all 12 Journal to a bookbinder to let them bind. So we have all Journals from decades.

  5. How can I
    not love thee
    when you are
    the source
    of Love…
    How can I not
    know thee
    when it’s you
    I’m made from….
    How can I
    worry what
    the next day
    will bring
    when all there
    is to do is
    Silent Hymns Sing…

  6. Oh, I must add a sentence from Science&Health which I love:
“Tenderness accompanies all might which the Spirit grants”
Thank you all for your all.
