I love this hymn and these words. In all ways, we have to arise and shine or the light can’t come into our lives. Even on our darkest days, there are blessings to be found. We can’t find light looking around in dark corners.
I was unable to get to sleep last night as I mildly berated myself for allowing tasks and things to pile up. I decided I should pray about how to begin – sure that God will fill my thought and replace the criticism and help me to prioritize. I stopped the thinking that seemed to suggest that God had allowed me to slip into this shallow pit of failure. Instead, I began making a mental list of things to do and suddently I got up to write so I wouldn’t forget. But instead of making a list, I started working on one of the tasks and continued to work for hours on it and then another until I was satisfied with what i had done. It’s remarkable that i was up and doing all through the night without worry about not getting enough rest. Then I made the list and went back to bed and got a couple hours of sleep. I got up more than an hour ago and each moment will continue to be in activity that’s impelled by love and gratitude – with spiritual energy and balance. Thanks for your prayerful thoughts and advice, Evan. Your loving thoughts for others are felt, even before we read them.
Your experience is proof of breaking through mortal interference; way to go, kudos!!
Thanks for sharing how being impelled by love replaced any worry or lack.
I, too, was not going to sleep and felt impelled to get up and study and pray. I had been very disturbed earlier in the evening about something and after church felt uplifted. But still needed to continue with the inspiration. Normally I would be tired that late but was so alert and soaking in what I was studying (The Way in MW p355) afterwards slept peacefully and woke refreshed, inspired Thank you so much Evan and everyone for your very helpful contributions
Perfect for me too!
Too much sitting, looking at the computer screen, and thinking about how much needs to get done!
Thanks Evan and all who commented!
Lori and Joy echo my sentiments. This blog hit right on today! Have been putting off getting water out of fountain and cleaning it before putting on the winter cover. Will get out there within the hour!
What great advise…just get started! Thank you Evan for getting us all motivated! Enjoyed all the comments…especially Deb and Linda. Thanks for sharing your experiences. (=
Amen,
Many a day Hymn 14 has got me kick-started:
“Arise, arise and shine,
On thee hath dawned the day;
God is thy sun, and Christ thy light,
Be thou a steadfast ray.”
Thank you!!!! what a great idea!!!
Thank you Evan, thats what I think and need everyday.
Thank you Patricia, so refreshing and suitable and inspiring that Hymn.

I believe the originator of this quote was Mark Twain. “The secret of getting ahead is getting started”
Thanks, Evan and all. Great way to start the day! One thing at a time, and it all gets done. No rush, just joy! Thanks.
All of the comments are so on point, as well as this blog. The only way to accomplish any task is to get started – just what I need to do NOW!
