Beauty is a thing of life

“You can take no credit for beauty at sixteen. But if you are beautiful at sixty, it will be your soul’s own doing.”
~ Marie Stopes

“Beauty, as well as truth, is eternal; but the beauty of material things passes away, fading and fleeting as mortal belief.
“Beauty is a thing of life, which dwells forever in the eternal Mind and reflects the charms of His goodness in expression, form, outline, and color.
“The recipe for beauty is to have less illusion and more Soul, to retreat from the belief of pain or pleasure in the body into the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony.”
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 247

God created all of us beautiful. And that beauty is spiritual, expressed through us in the form of love, inspiration, spiritual mindedness and godliness. It is ageless and timeless.

  1. Wonderful, thank you Evan, for the healing an comforting passages from Science & Health. That is a lovely and true verse by Marie Stopes. So, as I am aware, today`s SpiritView is all about “Man the expression of God as SOUL”. That is so loving – and today we all will have a good day, expressing Beauty as image and likeness of SOUL!

  2. Thank you, Evan!! As God’s perfect reflection, we have the best job ever – we stand in beauty, reflecting perfect love. Possibly we sit. There’s no up or down in eternity.

Occasionally, it’s suggested that God’s own reflection could be separate from God. If separate from God, we couldn’t reflect perfect beauty without blowing a fuse. As soon as the thought arises, we realize it’s preposterous. We are not separate from God. Anything short of beauty is a square circle, so look again!

  3. Beau;ty comes from within and is expressed outwardly as is love. When I was in high school we had a soloist in our church who had a magnificent and powerful voice. She expressed so much love her face just beamed. She never used any music – just stood with her arms at her side and let the inspiring music pour forth. I’ve never seen or heard anyone like her. To me she was the most beautiful woman in the world.

  4. What a beautiful thought..it’s natural to look beautiful at the age of Sixteen but it take the beauty of soul to look beautiful at the age of Sixty.
The more Godlike qualities we reflect viz patience, gentleness, kindness, love, forgiveness, compassion..the more beauty is reflected on the face.
If we see beauty in everyone and see as God sees everyone, in their true identity, as beautiful and good, the way He created us, we shall always feel happy, satisfied and peaceful. Our cheerfulness will be contagious and we shall spread beauty and joy wherever we go.
Thanks Evan for sharing the beauty of spirituality day by day, veveruday.

  5. Thank you, Evan, Nergish, and all! This reminds me of Jesus’ commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves. I think today I will write a post-it note to take with me that says “In Science, we are the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute our ancestry . . .” (Science and Health, page 63:5) Much love to all : >)

  6. This is so needed. We live in a culture obsessed with physical beauty and aging. I have been working to see people in their spiritual light and pay less and less attention to body/physicality. It’s so true that a person who expresses Godlike qualities also naturally expresses and appears as beautiful. And vice versa if one is beautiful physically but is “ugly” in qualities, they can become unattractive. I have known a few CS students of ” riper years” as Mrs. Eddy says, who just seem ageless to me and there spiritual qualities pour forth in a way that makes it impossible to see anything less than pure beauty. That’s the beauty that lasts and of which I want to strive for.

  7. A thought came to me the other day that put this metaphor. That all souls are crystal and that it is our thoughts and actions which give us our hue. As long as we are able to express ourselves with attributes that refracts divine qualities our expression will have a lasting glow.

    1. That was so beautiful and insightful, Josef! Thank you for sharing!! And thank all of our responders and, of course, Evan!!! Have a beautiful day!!

  8. It has been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So I reckon that if we set out to recognise all the beautiful spiritual qualities that are included in man as God’s image, we should be able to behold the beauty of the Lord in everyone. If we identify our fellow with ugliness of character, according to the false material senses, and see him as unpleasant, that is presumably what we will see. It is good to know that if we look for the good and the beautiful in everyone, not only will we be rewarded with
enjoying their beauty, we will also be helping to remove the impositions of ugly traits which seem to be attached to some people, but are not really their true identity.

I enjoyed reading all the comments – thank you to all.

  9. The beauty that is within—the love, compassion, joy, peace, unselfishness—cannot help shining on the outside. It is true beauty! It is ageless and cannot be found in finite matter. I’ve known so many so-called “seniors” who shine with that light that is true beauty. It is eternal. Lori, I loved what you said about the soloist.,,,she was singing without a sense of “self.”
