Begin rightly

January 14, 2025 | 27 comments

To begin rightly is to end rightly.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 262

“Get started on the right foot,” is a popular adage used by many people over the ages.  Its rule applies to success in metaphysics too.

For healing to occur, get thought started out on the proper foot.  Build on an understanding of spiritual reality!

God is All.  God is good.  Evil is not the power it appears to be.

Let any suggestion that denies God’s allness fall into the dustbin of oblivion.  Stick with spiritual reality and leave any error suggestions behind.

Start with God and end with God.

Start right and end right.  It leads to healing.

  1. Thank you Jennine – I had never heard the word “ravel”, and in case
other people haven’t, I looked it up and the three definitions I found
    were :
to become unwoven, untwisted, or unwound : fray

    : break up, crumble

obsolete : to become entangled or confused

It now makes perfect sense, so I will hem this new day
    with prayer and be safe.

  2. lovely word ¬ravels` I know that when you untangle something you are unravelling it ! so I get the ravels thank you.
to begin rightly……we can go back to our `birth` we need to start there let s come away from the `human` sense of birth…and have nothing to do with the human conception and apparent birth… that is not us we don t build on that we need a spiritual foundation maybe a rebirth and so come away from the consequences of mortal birth, and claim our true birth as an idea a child of God that would be to `begin rightly ` I think

  3. This is such an important concept! Please check out this article by Daniel L. Jensen, CSB Beginning Rightly. It is simply fantastic! (sorry I couldn’t attach it but google it).

    1. Grateful for your direction to ‘check out’ Daniel L. Jensen’s article, “To Beginning Rightly”. Researched Daniel as I sought the article, finding both providing treasure troves to solve the trench I’m digging out from. Wish I could meet Daniel L. Jensen, CSB, and learn more from him, as both he and my CSB teacher are “gone”. Taking the steps to “Begin Rightly” in spite of missing the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jensen. Won’t stop learning, as I “. . . Begin Rightly”

      1. Hi chilesands, I also am a fan of Daniel Jensen, a very powerful and pure knower and clear communicator of Truth.

I’ve heard this expression, “Start with God, stay with God, stick with God, stand with God and finish with God.” Sounds like Jensen but not sure.

Evan I loved, “Evil is not the power it appears to be….Let any suggestion that denies God’s allness fall into the dustbin of oblivion.” Great to apply this to the situation in Los Angeles and to any of error’s temptations.

      2. Hi, perhaps someone here could find the relevant article by Daniel L. Jensen and give it to us, please. friends? ♡

          1. Thanks Judy, yes.it works and I’ll print it out so I can read it in quiet moment! ❤️

  4. Thanks Evan for today’s message and to all who have contributed to date. If one sews or does other hand crafts one is sure to make sure all the ends are woven in the work or secure so no unravel happens. One with God is a majority and God does not unravel! It can also mean we don’t get excited at the news, comments by friends, co-workers or others and can add to the peace we all desire and safety we have within the Kingdom of God, which Jesus said is within us.
    Blessings to all.

  5. Thank you Evan! I found this shared article by JSH Online to be helpful on the topic of beginning rightly as it applies today…

The author (Cindy Martin “Quieting Destructive Winds and Catastrophic Wildfires” January 2020 Journal) quotes from another Sentinel article:

“…article from the Sentinel had included this paragraph: “Christian Science shows that one cannot use mental and spiritual means to manipulate the weather. Weather is a material atmosphere, and to attempt to manipulate it would perpetuate the deception that weather and its discordant conditions have substance and reality. But, we can scientifically reverse the erroneous human belief of destructiveness with the Truth that being is harmonious in Life, God. Spirit is the only true substance and Mind, and governs all reality concordantly.” (quoted from an article by William Marshall Fabian May 24, 1975 Christian Science Sentinel Overcoming Destructive Weather) https://sentinel.christianscience.com/shared/view/19t0gg4h5r6?s=copylink

    1. Thank you very much , dear Shelley, for the enlightening article by Cindy Martin about quieting Wildfires etc… it’s a very inspiring and helpful article.

  6. We have these instructions in Science & Health:

The sculptor turns from the marble to his model in order to perfect his conception. We are all sculptors, working at various forms, moulding and chiseling thought. …
……To remedy this, we must first turn our gaze in the right direction, and then walk that way. We must form perfect models in thought and look at them continually, or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives. (SH 248:12=15; 25-2

The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea, — perfect God and perfect man, — as the basis of thought and demonstration.

    1. Thanks dear Maggie for this article by Audrey Sentinella. She is presently the director of the nurses Departement of TMC. I remember with joy that I met her decades ago in a London facility where she and I were nurses Students.
I’m grateful how wonderful God is lovingly guiding His children!♡

      1. When I went to bed last night there were only 12 responses on SpiriView,
and I only discovered all the rest this morning.
So if you are looking back, dearUta, I was very interested to hear that you did your nurses training with Audrey Sentinella. We had a visit from the granddaughter of someone who was a member of our church for many hears until she moved away. I am not quite sure just how they are connected, but apparently this young lady is of the family of Sentinellas, and she is the granddaughter of the lady who was a church member here. She and her young family have recently moved into our area
and are looking for a church to join which has a creche. So we are
hoping she will join us. Thought you would be interested to hear that.

If you want to respond, please do it here, and not on today’s SpiritView. I will check\to see if you have. love, Maggie

  7. Thank you Evan for these good thoughts and thank you and everyone for your prayers. There is no wind so far today in this part of S California! Yeah! All is calm and bright.

    1. Yes LOL, glad to hear “all is calm and bright.” We are all continuing to pray and to know that God continues to be on the throne and continues to be all powerful and all good, loving and ably caring for His children in LA and everywhere. Our daughter lives out there, she is doing well volunteering, connecting with community. So many people want to volunteer to help that it is hard to find opportunities, but that is a demonstration of such an outpouring of God’s Love.

  8. Thank you, Evan, for sharing this advice with us today. It is essential that we start right in order to stay right and end right, no matter what we are doing. Thank you also for the wonderful CA fire workshop we had starting on Sunday. The articles and experiences shared by all were inspiring. I would like to share another testimony that I was sent. Our God is absolutely wonderful.

    1. These are very helpful thoughts to ponder, especially in trying to keep thought
inspired, to be caring for those in need. Pat – this testimony is amazing! Although
in God’s perspective, it is divinely natural and as Evan states, “Evil is not the
power it appears to be”. As I was reading it, it reminded me of an experience
I had many years ago, that wasn’t anywhere near the extent that these folks
were challenged, but still our demonstrations of Truth are helpful in realizing
God’s ever presence , both great and small.
I was with my dog on a public trail that was about a mile long and we had reached
the end of the trail where there was a steep ravine. We were going to go down the
many steps, when from the top of the steps, we saw we were being confronted
by an unleashed dog who came snarling and growling at us. It’s owner could not
see us so didn’t call the dog off. We started running back down the trail in the
direction we came. All the way I was praying for God’s protection and that animals
are harmless in God’s kingdom and this fellow could not hurt us. We had gotten
far enough ahead and this confrontation was lessening and eventually when I
looked back, the dog had given up and was retreating. The feeling of gratitude
was so profound and the feeling of Love’s protection … so much felt. God is with
us always and these proofs of His care and compassion help us realize this.

  9. “Start with God and end with God.

Start right and end right. It leads to healing.”
Thank you, Evan, for these bright statements, it can help
To start any project, small or big, doesn’t matter, with the idea that Spirit is always present all the way.

  10. Thank you very much dear Evan for this SpiritView!
Yes, “get started on the right foot – start with God and end the day with God – knowing God is all, God is good. Evil is not the power it appears to be.”
The first thing this morning I read your SpiritView and I felt good, better than the other mornings, getting up and get clothed. Then I started reading the weekly lesson sermon – half of it. Then I did my daily errands. Later I watched a nice film and had supper. Now it was time to end this day with studying the second half of our lesson. After that I read the several articles given us here by some SpiritView friends. While I could listen to the one article about conquering the Wildfire I felt as if I pray with these wonderful metaphysical ideas. It felt so humbling. Wow it’s so worth reading it or listening to that article by Cindy Martin, which Shelley gave us up here! Am very thankful for this God blessed day!
And I’m very grateful for all your loving and comforting and inspiring comments! Here is midnight and bedtime now. ❤️

  11. Evan and Dan Jensen have one very important thing in common and that is the ability to take a complex idea and make it understandable. I’m so grateful to have SpiritView each day and my copy of Beginning Rightly is all marked and highlighted from years of use – always turning us back to the Christ and Mrs. Eddy’s writings. Evan, special thanks for your always helpful thoughts on current events.
