Cherish health

December 2, 2016 | 29 comments

Mary Baker Eddy wrote from her experience as a very successful Christian healer,

“Whatever is cherished in mortal mind as the physical condition is imaged forth on the body”
Science and Health, p. 411.

What are you cherishing in thought about your health? Is it good, uplifting, inspiring, pure, clean, holy, God-like and healthy? It can be.

To stay healthy, cherish health! Never cherish or mentally hold on to disease.

Health is a state of the divine Mind expressed through us. It is spiritual consciousness, spiritual understanding, and spiritual mindedness. It is all of the good qualities of divine Mind manifest as our true individuality made in the likeness of God.

Health is not a state of matter, but of Mind.

Health denies disease any presence and affirms strength, vitality, ability, mobility, and enduring soundness.

Health is forgiveness, generosity, kindness, infinite patience, wisdom, intelligence, peace and love.

Health is confidence in good and no confidence in evil.

Health is understanding of Life eternal, and no fear of death.

Health is understanding the presence of God’s good here and now.

Health shows up in the body as healthy functions, but it does not originate in the body any more than a TV show originates on the TV screen where it is watched. It comes from somewhere else, it originates in God.

Cherish the good and the true. Banish all ugly images, diseased images and sick beliefs from consciousness and cherish the spiritual man of God’s creating that is 100% healthy 100% of the time.

Cherish the spiritual truth about yourself.

  1. Thanks so so much for another clear and wonderful Christian Science Lesson, dear Evan – you are a so lovely teacher – would like to be in your class, if I didn`t already went through a CS-class.
This SV was another time exactly what I do need. Its important to be steadfast in the absolute spiritual Truth. Its not always easy but absolute worthwhile! And Devine Love is with us on our way to heaven ;-))

  2. Thanks again! Is there any other way of gratitude to tell you how your « daily spiritvews » are so uplifting and helping ? !!
This development of the sentence of Mary Baker Eddy, is a very good « training program » to check my thoughts and correct them. Our weekly lesson too !
    Deep gratitude
    Monique

  3. Thank you again. The turn in thought can be so subtle. In reading this I looked a little closer at my thought and saw something running in the background. Out you go.

  4. “Health is a state of the divine Mind expressed through us. It is spiritual consciousness, spiritual understanding, and spiritual mindedness.”
Nothing at all to do with matter, or what we see and feel with the senses. What a radical view this was/is for mankind. Thank you, Evan, one of your best ever! 🙂
I’m alerted now to ask myself: okay, you, how is your spiritual mindedness today? Going down your list of what constitutes health…..what a great way to start the day!

  5. I love the analogy of the tv image like not being originated on the tv screen. What a great way to understand that concept. I had never thought of it in that way before…and this makes it so simple. I’ve heard of how sometimes our perception can be wrong like seeing a shadow on the wall. All the scrubbing can not get that shadow spot off, because it is not really there, even though through the lens of our mortal view, it Appears to be there. These simple truths, through Spirit View, shine a light on to things in such a wonderful way. Thank you, Evan and commenters. Have a great day to you all

    1. Carol – I also like to think of thoughts from mortal mind as shadows. When we step aside, the shadows, aka error in thought, are gone!

  6. Thanks for the great detailed list, Evan! And I love this from “Rudimental Divine Science”: “Health is the consciousness of the unreality of pain and disease; or, rather, the absolute consciousness of harmony and of nothing else.” Kind a’ sums it all up!

  7. Thanks, Evan, and spiritually-minded Commenters! It’s All Thought, isn’t it? There is no matter because matter is actually just a state of thought…..admittedly a false one, but nevertheless a state of consciousness. I’m getting more and more how important the Bible and it’s examples of Healing are, as it shows us in so many ways how the people who knew the Truth, who really understood that Reality is Spiritual Consciousness, were able to move thru their world in complete consciousness of the Presence of God, All Good. They were able to prove this Power of the Presence by effecting a change in the so-called “outer world” – just through their staying in the consciousness of God! Then Mrs. Eddy comes along and writes out the whole Scientific explanation of the Scriptures, so that we, too, can understand and practice this Truth in our own lives here and now!! Amaaaaaaazing!

  8. Thanks for this wonderful and timely post! Just what I needed to hear. I too love the TV image!

And thanks Jan for the great quote.

One of the fruitage letters in the back of Science and Health has a line: “There is nothing to do but to recognize that all is harmony, always.” That’s one of my favorite lines!

(Concord Express says it’s page 420, but I don’t think that’s right, I think the Fruitage is in the 500s.)

  9. Here is a definition of ‘cherish’: to indulge and encourage in the mind. Makes it very clear!

Good morning Evan, and thank you for this helpful blog.

  10. The quote just mentioned is from Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy on page 420
“There is nothing to do but to recognize that all is harmony, always.”
A great thought for the day. Have a day of harmony everyone!
Thanks for this idea too Evan “Cherish the spiritual truth about yourself.” We all need to do that and know that this is the spiritual fact about ourselves and others!

  11. Thank you so much Evan for your blogs, today your thoughts shared were just so powerful. It’s like it just deeply resonated with me and opened my thought. I have read it several times to just bask in the spiritual inspiration of it. I always open my link at work, and it’s like this silent oasis in the midst of a bustling office. It’s often just what I need. I have enjoyed moments like these often this year from your daily blogs and have shared them with others as they meet so many needs and are written perfectly for sharing. Lately I have been so inspired by the comments and conversations shared here, also. I especially like today when Nadine said she saw “something running in the background-out you go”. That brought a smile, such a great way to express it. I just felt the urge to express my gratitude for Christian Science, and for all the inspiration shared on this blog. What a gift it is to have this daily spirit view !!

  12. Thank you Evan!!! What a wonderful post for this Christmas season (i.e. the true Christmas season that runs from Jan 1st through Dec 31st).

Your post yesterday on the “Real Substance of Christmas” made me reconsider my understanding of the word “Christ”. In Science and Health (pg 583) Mrs. Eddy defines Christ in part as “The divine manifestation of God…”. To me that means Christ is the complete spiritual idea of God. “Health” would then be one aspect of this Christ, or God’s idea, and therefore worthy of worship in our thought at all times.

Mrs. Eddy goes on to say on pg. 583 that Christ “…comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.” To me the term “the flesh” means the dream state of believing we live in matter and are subject to laws that cause sickness. So to me this definition of Christ on pg 583 is saying that as we allow the Christ, or spiritual idea of health, harmony, etc. to reside in our thinking, that right idea will naturally destroy any belief of its opposite (i.e. sickness), like light dispels darkness.

That is the truth that makes for a Merry Christmas for everyone!

    1. Thank you Brian for your comment to the definition of “Christ” on page 583 in Science and Health. I love specially that definition although there are some other good definitions of “Christ”, because it promisses complete destroying of the error. Your explanation is so good that “the flesh” means to you the dream state of believing we live in matter – yes, and that will be destroyed by the Christ; for me very comforting, thanks again.

      1. Thank you Uta. I very much appreciate and look forward to reading your comments to this blog each day too!

I have a special Christmas gift for you and all of the other readers of this blog. Via the URL below you can listen to a lecture by Jules Cern entitled “Christian Science, The Divine Solution to Every Human Problem”.

        http://christiansciencect.org/historical-christian-science-lectures/

I came across this lecture about a week ago and have listened to it about 5 times and plan to listen to it a few more times. I first listened all the way through and then did it again. Then I listened starting at about minute 25 of the lecture to the end. Then from about minute 43 to the end. This lecture has multiple parts and especially the part from around minute 43 to the end addresses the topic of “health” and how to pray when faced with the suggestion of the opposite of health.

        1. Brian, thank you very much indeed for the link to the two lectures of Jules Cern. I just listened to the second lecture of him about how Christian Science heals. What spiritual food it is, I am filled up. And here it is midnight now, and time to go to bed with these wonderful Truths of the lecture – so nice of you Brian giving that link ;-))

  13. Thank you Evan. I am so grateful for this loving and heartfelt blog. Love touches so many through this blog. Blessings to all.

  14. Thank you Evan. I am so grateful for this loving and heartfelt blog. Love touches so many through this blog. Blessings to all.

  15. Thanks so much, Evan, as this was especially timely for me this morning after a restless night. I’ve also been praying with Psalm 91:10, 11 “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all the ways.”

I also appreciate all of the comments. Thanks to everyone!

  16. Thanks to all, and, especially Evan, for bringing up this topic. I’ve been working to see that all is Mind and Mind’s manifestation, and includes perfect health, and that body is in consciousness, spiritual understanding, not in matter. Thanks again to all!

  17. Thank you Evan for your continued Love. You and all your SV readers continue to show forth. I have gone back to reading S&H and the Bible lesson and I to have been listening to the lectures from 1960. The many things we are given keep us healthy knowing God and being Thankful at all times!

  18. Thank you Evan and all who have commented for an interesting clearly expressed blog. I found it particularly inspirational and will be turning to the lectures, thank you Brian.
