Do what’s right

February 2, 2022 | 12 comments

If you believe in and practice wrong knowingly, you can at once change your course and do right.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 253

If you are doing something wrong and you know it, you can immediately change course and do right!

The wise way is to make no excuses for the wrong doing. Do not justify your bad behavior. Don’t plead ignorance. Quickly admit the error, seek out what is right, and do it! It’s the fastest route to grand success.

  1. There is within us an inner knowing of what’s right that is always present, put into us by our Creator. We may get distracted at times and seem to see things wrongly and seem to follow those wrong impulses but as Mrs. Eddy said in the quote we can “at once” wake up and do right. I heard a TV evangelist once say that if we feel like we’ve forgotten all our spiritual learnings to just remember one idea — “Trust God and do good.”

Also for anyone that missed it yesterday, M posted a link to an excellent talk called You Are Not a Commentary, it relates to today’s topic as well. Here’s the link (and thanks again M).

  2. As an engineer I wanted all my mistakes to be a surprise and an opportunity for learning how to do it better. As a Christian Scientist I want to demonstrate what I know to be true and not fall into the argument against myself.
Thank you Evan for this thoughtful post.
And thank you, Angie for the article you posted.

  3. A great learning package for today! Evan’s post, Angie’s article and M’s “You are not a commentary” talk from yesterday’s SV. Lots to digest and work on! Thanks to all our SV family.

  4. Great reminder Evan, thank you!
Angie, thank you for all these wonderful articles you are sharing with us! This one was great

  5. Thank u Evan and all. This is what should be taught in schools Not CRT.
Being raised in science it is easy to forget that sometimes we think differently. It is so natural to us, we never give it another thought. Christian Science (CS) is common sense. Every idea, every thought comes from God and is embraced by our reflection as our true identity. So grateful for CS.

  6. “Jesus loved little children because of their freedom from wrong and their receptiveness of right…” (Science & Health p. 236:28).
A reminder when a distracting, negative “thought loop” appears to fixate and keep me stuck, to give myself a mental “time out” and change course, as Evan mentions. A mental weight lifts when being obediently receptive, trusting, and good, as a little child.

    1. Dear “J” thank you for this specially suitable article by .Marian English “As a little Child’ to today’s SpiritView The last sentence of this article is: “Let us cherish the child in ourselves and others, and humbly pray to express more of it every day.”
Yes, that is necessary and do able! ♡

  7. What an especially lively conversation today! So happy to have these many beautiful reminders, inspiring ideas, nuggets and gems to carry around with us, as we practice speaking Love to ourselves. We often think that all we are to do is love others; if we Love God first, we must include in our love ourselves…. How could we love one another without settling firmly on God as LOVE?
I’m so grateful to have SpiritView and this beautiful community of Spirit Viewers. Thank you all.
Above my front door is an antique placard which reads: “Do good and care not to whom” which I read as I go out . Love
