I love this! If we don’t expect good things, how are they going to happen? If we expect bad, once in a while we may be surprised, but generally we’ll see bad even when it’s not there. Someone I know was convinced that his car battery was dead when it hadn’t started in the cold. He went out and tried to start it once, and when it didn’t start, he called AAA. They came and tested it, and said it was fine! If he’d just tried it a little more, it would have started.
I have been worrying about a trip. It will be a lot of intense activity, around a lot of people, and I will have to sleep in a different place each night (I’m a person who likes to be settled and have my own space, so this idea was disturbing). But I realized by expecting discomfort and stress, that’s what I’ll get! Instead I am choosing to expect a harmonious trip, and a good time.
I recently had an occasion to consider what is meant by “to give you an expected end.” It doesn’t mean an end to anything except error – in other words healing! Now that’s expectancy.
This is a great topic. When we are fearful we expect gloom and doom. It is so important to expect good. God is our good and good is our God! Optimism is a great quality to manifest. I need to practice what I preach. What you think about you bring about so it is highly important that we guard our thoughts and improve them.
Here is a quote I’ve had on my fridge for quite sometime: “If you don’t consciously prepare yourself each day to practice wonder and joy, you get really good a practicing stress and pain and anger and fear.” Saranne Rothbeerg
