From glory to glory

October 13, 2025 | 28 comments

Do you ever feel like your life is one problem after another, one trouble followed by another trouble, and the woes never seem to end?

If so, there’s a spiritual perspective that can lift you out of feeling hopeless.

Life is not meant to be one problem leading to another.  It’s meant to be a continual unfoldment of God’s glory and goodness.

A favorite hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal reminds us of this truth.  It begins

From glory unto glory, Be this our joyous song;

From glory unto glory, ’Tis Love that leads us on; … Hymn 65

Let your day start with God’s glory, rather than mortal mind’s fears.

Start with honoring God’s power and presence.  Remember something to be grateful for, a spiritual truth to rejoice over.

Resolve to live out God’s goodness, and acting on truth and love, rather than acting out fear and doubt.

Live in the glory of God.  And move through your day with peace and rejoicing.

From glory to glory…

  1. Thank you Evan!
Such a wonderful photo, beauttifully illustrating the 5th and 6th lines of Hy 65 which inspired your SV this morning.

    “As wider yet and wider,
    The rising splendours glow”

Considering spiritual “light” this morning I recalled a citation from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy,

S&H 280:4 From Love and from the light and harmony which are the abode of Spirit, only reflections of good can come.

Wishing all a day filled with light and glory ♡

  2. Thank you Evan and Thank you Shelagh
My own personal life is going pretty smoothly but I’m often feeling so troubled and overwhelmed with our nation and world issues (as most people are.)
I’m so grateful for the inspiring resources we have to give us hope and help us maintain our joy so we can help others do the same ..”From glory unto glory..”
    I’ve always loved this hymn..
From victory (over fear and doubt )
    To victory…

“Let Truth uncover error in God’s own way, and let human justice pattern the Divine.”
    Mary Baker Eddy

    Onward ☺️️
May Love, Peace, and true Justice prevail

  3. “…the storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid
but God is round about me
    and can I be dismayed?…”
    Verse from hymn 148

    1. I once saw an article in which the author had emphasized ” WITHOUT ME” in this hymn 148. It gives a new meaning.

      1. Hi Katherine, that’s interesting. I always thought the “without me” in that hymn meant that any so-called storm or discord was only an appearance in the outer world or outside of us and “God is round about me” to mean that He is surrounding and protecting us from that apparent outer storm. Do you remember what meaning the author was giving about “without me?” Thanks.

      2. Thank you Katherine for sharing this new perspective! The storm may roar, but it’s without me — I’m no part of it, I’m not in it at all – . because I am totally calm, at peace, the reflection of God. And God is not in the storm

  4. Love this concept of glory to glory instead of problem to problem.

It reminds of the Bible verses that we are supposed to rejoice and give thanks in every situation and despite problems and challenging situations:

Philippians 4:4 – Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 – In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

In the middle of a problem we are supposed to rejoice and give thanks to see God’s will and glory be supreme. It’s great to know what to do. This “spiritual perspective” is so helpful and encouraging.

  5. Oh yess, Hymn 65 is also one of my favorites.
But also Hymn 9 is very suitable for praising Him and for peace in the world through God’s angels:

    verse 1
All glory be to God most high,
And on the earth be peace,
The angels sang, in days of yore,
The song that ne’er shall cease,
Till all the world knows peace.

    verse 3
O longing hearts that wait on God
    Through all the world so wide;
He knows the angels that you need,
And sends them to your side,
    To comfort, guard and guide.

I love these 2 verses of this hymn specially.
The vers 3 I pray with to comfort me when I’m in need.

Thank you Evan, yes I will go from Glory unto Glory for our Lord together with you all and praise God for His eternal Goodness! ❤️

      1. A wonderfully comforting article by Susanne van Eyl putting the praising of God into a different and more unerstandable light.
Thank you very much. J. for this link. ❤️

  6. Evan says our life is meant to be a continual unfoldment of God’s goodness and glory, I love that thought.

I’ve heard the expression ‘from glory to glory’ but realized I didn’t have a good understanding of the word glory. I do glorIfy God in my thought and praying, meaning I lift Him up above all else, to acknowledge His All Power and greatness. But not clear on ‘glory to glory.’

I found these definitions for glory- magnificence, greatness, beauty, brilliance.

Maybe I’m overcomplicating it (mortal mind does love to do that as a distraction!). Perhaps it just means we can focus on the Harmony and Goodness and Presence of God and know that we go forward, ever-reflecting Him. From one harmonious experience to another, on and on.

    1. It is ok to try and find clarity for the meaning of a verse but that’s the beauty of CS. Don’t get caught up in the complexity, but the simplicity. Everyone will get the inspiration for what they need and how it is revealed to them. I love new inspiration from old familiar verse. God reveals when we are ready. This is just my take on it, sorry. Also, another thought on Glory unto Glory. Some brands of tea come with inspirational verses. Today I feel it corresponds with today’s subject. ” Give thanks for unknown blessings that are already on the way.”

      1. Thank you Janet, that’s helpful. I agree with you that we receive the meaning we need, when we need it. Someone once said to me, “I’m on a ‘need-to-know’ basis with God, I trust I’ll know or understand just the right thing, just when I need it.” That level of trust is correct spiritual thinking, and a very freeing way to go!

P.S. -Enjoyed your teabag message, that we can be grateful for the “unknown blessings” that are on the way to us all. Reminds me of something a speaker (not CS) once said, “Walk around all day feeling as if something wonderful is about to happen- because it is.”
        Sending love to everyone here.

    2. Thank you, Rose for making me think about this a little more deeply. I think of quote from glory unto glory” I realized that this is all about being the Image and likeness, the reflection of God. From His glory – – magnificent, beautiful, greatness, brilliance— We reflect glory – – magnificent beauty greatness brilliance. We can can’t be any different than our source.

  7. Today is Canadian Thanksgiving. So much to be grateful for and a special note to Evan and all who comment on this site. I am (and me too) grateful for you all. Much love from Canada!

  8. Thank you Evan and Everyone for these lovely thoughts of inspiration.
Sometimes life does feel like one challenge after another and feels like
being pulled down. It has been very windy here and was awakened
during the night by a large crash. mortal thoughts would have me thinking
a tree had fallen very near and started to worry. I was tempted to get up
and see what it was, but held to knowing thing would be alright and in the
morning – everything was fine and during the day, with extensive wind,
everything continued to be safe and the power has stayed on despite the
storm, for which I am very grateful. Hymn #148 I have turned to often
in times of need and feel comforted by “The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid; But God is round about me, And can I be dismayed?”.
