Give God a chance to speak

January 6, 2022 | 37 comments

If you’d like to hear what God has to say, be sure to give God a chance to speak and be heard!

Sometimes, the human mind gets so busy forming its own plans, conversing about its own ideas, outlining what should happen and how to make it occur, that it shuts out any outside help. This is not a successful strategy for hearing what God has to say!

God is an all-knowing, all-wise Mind, that has a solution to any problem we ever face. But to hear what God has to say, we need to listen!

Be sure to make time for hearing what God has to say. Humble the human mind. Talk less and listen more. Turn to the divine Mind. The solution you seek will appear!

“I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways” (Psalm 85:8, NLT).

  1. Wow Evan, I love what you’re sharing with us today, and the verse from Psalms is perfect. I need to heed the last sentence more faithfully. Judy

  2. A timely message Evan and certainly a counter cultural message from how most people live..
Just yesterday I was listening to a YouTube presentation that included an account of Mrs. Eddy sitting quietly on the porch so she could listen for messages from her Father..

  3. Merci infiniment Evan.

    1. Merci, Roux,
My branch Church is in Charlevoix, Michigan, USA. The French you wrote is poetic and beautiful. How wonderful it is to see your comment, in French.
Pierre Francious Xavier de Charlevoix, explored this precious place where our branch has been established. He spent time with native Americans in 1721 on what is called “Fisherman’s Island”.
He explored the “Great Lakes” as well. Thus they named that part of Michigan’s County after him, Charlevoix County and our city, Charlevoix.
      Many Thanks and welcome! “Bienvenu!”

        1. Dear Betsey,

Petoskey is so close to Charlevoix.

The official state motto for Michigan “Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam Circumspice,” If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.
Adopted in 1835 and said to have been suggested by the tribute to architect Christopher Wren at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, which reads Si monumentem requirus, circumspice (Latin ” If you seek (His) monument, look around you.

          Thanks, Betsey!

    2. I was delighted that I was able to read your testimony! Long ago I was fluent in French, but humanly I would have supposed one would lose an ability which hadn’t been used or exercised in many years. Yet this proves that we truly do remain – and retain- the Only Mind which Knows everything!
      Merci beaucoup

  4. I gave up making plans about 30 years ago … simple reason . My plans NEVER EVER worked out but sometimes just a MOMENT of Stop— Ask—and Listen to God’s plan ALWAYS worked out brilliantly. How do we know when it’s God’s plan not ours? Again – simple … an idea comes to you straight after you ask for guidance and often AS YOU ARE ASKING! This idea will often be exactly what you do not want to do or something so left field that you never even thought of it. So if it doesn’t sound like your plan and does not sound like what you want to do … ignore yourself and DO THAT THING! I’ve found that when these ideas from God come, I don’t feel as if I have a choice … it’s as if I KNOW I AM going to take that step. The other thing is DO IT NOW…. God gives us our directions when we need them … not 6 months or a week in advance . So be obedient immediately.

  5. A healing I had occurred when I asked for help with a horrible problem. It was so horrible I will not describe it.
I was told to sit back and to be quiet. And when I was quiet, to quieter still.
In a few minutes I could “feel the calm and joy of things immortal” (Hymn 64, From Sense to Soul, by Violet Hay).
I was warm, unafraid, and well. Healed by quieting mortal mind. More importantly I saw a light. A hard to describe light, right there in my thought.
“Peace be still, stranger thou art the guest of God’.
Thank You for this Forum and the helpful dialog that helps, heals and enlightens the thoughts of us all.

  6. Wow! This is great, as always. Special thanks to David B. and Diane.
    Could anyone interpret Roux’s piece?
    Many thanks

    1. Dear Betsy, here is a translation of what Pascale is saying :
Thank you immensely, Evan. In the incessant agitation of our busy life, it is so precious to know that we are able to say Stop and listen. Then, the divine plan is unfolding before us, just (equitable/impartial/fitting), full of love and perfect. Thank you for all these wonderful inspirations I read and meditate each day.

  7. Thank you Evan and all commenters!
    – “It takes genuine humbleness of mind to accept the fact of man’s total dependency on God. Christ Jesus said, “Whosever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” (Alan Aylwin)
    – “Being born of Spirit requires an active willingness to look to God as the source of everything: our thoughts, agenda, behavior, strength – everything. It requires childlike surrender to God as the governing source of being. Science & Health says: “Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea.” All that we’re being asked to do is to turn with childlike trust to God and let Him give us our thoughts, which impels our actions. Surrender to God as our source, letting God care for you.” (Susan Booth Mack Snipes)

  8. Thank you Evan for helping me to remember to follow and listen to God’s direction.
Thank you Pascale, David B., Diane W. and Beatrice and all.

  9. Yes, God is always speaking to us but Are We Listening? Thank u Evan as always. So obvious and simple but hard for mortal mind to relinguish its ego.
Heard someone say in a lecture. Ego is. . .
Edging God Out. Thank you all for your ever inspiring comments and stories. SV such a blessing.

  10. Evan thank you for this important topic. A practitioner told me, regarding fear: Write down F-E-A-R on a piece of paper, then erase the F. What is left is your EAR, your spiritual ear, which can hear only what God is saying. So yes we need to turn away from fear, get very quiet and humble to hear the loving solutions from dear God.

  11. God, good, guides, guards & governs….the “5 g’s”!
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts today and thanks Evan for sharing, as always,,,,especially “talk less and listen more”…..a must during any conversation!

  12. I once remember reading in an article that we must remember to say “Speak Lord for thy servant heareth” and not “Listen Lord for thy servant speaketh”. Let God do the talking and let us do the listening!!

    1. Thank you Evan for a great SV and for everyone’s contributions to a most interesting thread!

Linda, your comment is humorous and to the point, really “spoke” to me.

      Thank you.

    1. Thank you Angie for this article. It is inspiring , and as all articles you present us here is spiritual food for me and meeting my needs. So is Evan’s SpiritView today. It tells me to listen more to our Father-Mother God for healing ideas and guidance bringing healing and progress.
I did that today and then I decided to act. I had a lovely phone talk in the morning and lster an online work which seemed difficult. I declared that “life and Intelligence are spiritual” as Mrs. Eddy says in SH. Finally it was successfully done and I thanked God.
Thank you JP below, for your wonderful testimony listening to God’s guidance! Such a blessing! And I am thankful for the blessing this loving and healing SpiritView blog and all the inspiring comments and communications it brings to us all. Thank you very much dear Evan!♡

  13. A “small listening” …….today on my way driving home and feeling glad to be almost there, I passed a supermarket and the idea came to me to go in. But, what was it I needed? I honestly thought nothing….. but found myself parking and going in anyhow.
Still mentally sifting why I was there, I walked down the Cat/dog aisle. I don’t have any pets. Suddenly I remembered my daughter had asked me to help her find a particular brand and flavor of cat food she could not find anywhere in stores or online that had become the main menu of her cat. Low and behold, there were 10 cans waiting on the shelf for me to buy. And, I noted that these 10 cans were surrounded by empty shelves. Thank You God! I am learning to listen more. Thank you Evan and others who have shared today.

  14. When I was a young child, I lived next door to a Christian Science Practitioner who read me Bible stories with milk and cookies each day. She taught me that God already knows everything so that I did not have to ask for anything. At age 5, we moved to the country. At age 6, my parents were fighting over financial problems. I packed a peanut butter sandwich and a jar of milk and walked 2 miles to what I thought was a mountain where I believed God lived – it was a hill called Elephant Rock. I sat in the sunshine looking through birch trees in silence all that day, visiting God. I did not say a word. At the end of the day when the police finally found me, I had my first miracle. Later, miracles for my parents flowed. I am forever grateful that I had such a strong teacher in my young life. This powerful knowledge sustains me even now, seventy years later. We do not have to say a word. Just listen for God’s voice. . . God is always with us and always wants the best for us and our loved ones. Visit God in silence and you will be rewarded with tremendous love. I know from my experience that this is true. We have a right to be healthy; we have a right to be successful; we have a right to be loved.

    1. Thank you dear Lisa, this story you shared was so special. I’m glad I checked back a day later to see if any new comments were left (which I often do, as sometimes people post very late or early the next day or even days later). I was rewarded with the chance to read your inspiring share. So simple, innocent, beautiful and powerful. A lesson for all time.

      1. So grateful that my story has uplifted you, Rose.
Please read my book, LOVE MORE Let’s End Racism,
Sexism, Ageism Now! It is my first book and is now on Amazon, Kindle, Artmobile and Audio. I have embedded it with treatments that heal and pray over my readers daily that they may receive “The Holy Instant” described in A Course in Miracles. MAY YOU BE BLESSED.

  15. THANK YOU. JUST WHAT I NEEDED TO HEAR AT THE START OF THE DAY. AND IT LOOKS LIKE A PRETTY DAY. NO JABBERING SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO BEGIN.
