Guard and protect virtues

July 28, 2023 | 23 comments

Beloved children, the world has need of you, — and more as children than as men and women: it needs your innocence, unselfishness, faithful affection, uncontaminated lives. You need also to watch, and pray that you preserve these virtues unstained, and lose them not through contact with the world.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellaneous Writings, p. 110

Trust in goodness having the upper hand, faith that love is the right response, acts of unselfishness, compassion, a readiness to forgive, and other virtues, bless humanity and make the world a happier, safer place to be.

If in contact with worldly states of thought that do not share your values, or maybe even demean them, stand guard. Do not let a lower perspective lower your perspective.

Stay true to your virtues and high ideals! Let them inspire others to go higher.

  1. So glad to see and read this lovely message! I certainly get a Lot
of inspiration from these posts and appreciate them so much, so
am so grateful to see it here now, this afternoon. Thank you, Evan!.
Yes, worldly events and humanly ideas would try to drag us
down to mortal levels. I think, in keeping our thoughts as much on
the spiritual as we can, we distinguish between what is right
and wrong easier, coming from a more childlike, innocent background
that doesn’t have to re-learn what mortal/”little” minds seem to try to
bombard us with all of the time.. The One Mind of wisdom, intelligence,
the truth/Truth is what is needed so much in the world today.

  2. “Do not let a lower perspective lower your perspective!”
    The Quote of the Month!
Going on a stickie in my office.
Thank you – as always, Evan!

  3. I had a friend who used to use the science fiction story about flat land and two dimensional land. If you came from two dimensional land ( reality) and tried to enter flat land to help you would be told that all was well and they didn’t need two dimensional land.
It reminds me not to enter into the lower perspective and try to straighten the snake, so to speak. It’s impossible. Stay in consciousness above it

  4. Thank you Evan and all. The world keeps on presenting a picture of unrealities but we need to hold unto the virtues or qualities that make us up. We need to always ask the question, What is man? Not “Who” ? Where “who” stands for physical descriptions, not virtues.. Let’s hold unto our virtues.

    1. Yes Grace, you are right: w h a t is Man. See Science and Health p. 475 under the topic “What is man?”
“Man is idea, the image of Love; he is not physique. He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas …”
Can we be grateful to learn the divine Truth in Christian Science!

      1. This “Divine Truth” is like what an artist captures with such
inspiration … expressing the calm of Serenity, Peace
and Loveliness of our Creator, with Life’s palette.
        So Beautiful!!!
Artist Andrew Wyeth had written and even tho not
quite CS, it does represent Mind’s/God’s inspiration:
“I dream a lot. I do more painting when I’m not
        painting. It’s in the subconscious”.

  5. Hi dear Evan and dear all SV friends! I can gratefully say that I was confident that the matter yesterday of the seeming .irregularity of coming up of the comments did not confuse me at all; rather I knew everything is in complete order in God’s lovely realm! Also today I waited patiently and was looking forward to the appearing of today’s SpiritView. It came up just now in the Evening here in Germany.

Dear Evan, it is utmost healing and loving, and I am joyfully thankful for it!!
Meanwhile I learned in CS that innocence and childlike purity is natural to us all as image and likeness of our Father-Mother God!

I am very happy to be included in this lovely SpiritView family and love you all!♡

  6. I love that Mrs. Eddy says the world need us more as children, in our innocence, wonder and trust in good.

I noticed I have been engaging in too much complaining with my co-workers. Sometimes it seems innocent, just a form of bonding and sharing our common experiences and gripes. But I see that it’s becoming unhealthy and unproductive to let my thought go in negative directions toward my employer. I always pray before I go to work to be a blessing to everyone I encounter, to express kindness, friendliness and helpfulness to all and thanking God for the opportunity to serve Him at this job. So when I then go in and get drawn into focusing on what is seemingly “wrong,” I am clearly not using my spiritual sense that God gave me. Thank you for the reminder to “not let a lower perspective lower my perspective.” Love to all of you dear SV friends.

    1. Thank you Evan and all for such wondeful reminders of truth! Rose, wow, I’m so grateful for your sharing this as I’ve been lured into this tendency lately as well…

    1. Thank you J – Your Sentinel Article is the perfect “expansion” to Evan’s awesome post today! Thank you for sharing it!

    2. This article is right on topic again, dear J . Thank you, as always, for
sharing. I am reminded of a time, before the pandemic, when I was
doing work in my front yard and was feeling a little low. Two lovely
ladies had come to “sell” their door to door ministry and actually
it was the perfect remedy and we ended up having a wonderful
discussion. Of course, their ideas were a bit different than mine,
but their loving outreach was a blessing and they had come back
a few times after that, with equally enlightening thoughts shared …
things that they had never thought about. I think we all learned
from each other and it was quite soul searching and a thought-
provoking, loving experience. They were not pushy, but accepted
and honored my point of view quite readily and it was a good
exchange of spiritual thoughts. God/Love meets our needs in
ways that express the One Mind, even if it is not quite how we
might think at the time. I Love the thoughts expressed here,
as they are so in tune with what I truly believe. I thank you all!

      1. Thank you very much, Carol! That is such a lovely experience you made with the women about christly thoughts. You are right, it doesn’t matter whether they are a bit different. However you all expressed that innocence and lovely Inspiration Evan talks about in today’s SpiritView!♡

        1. Yes, Uta, I don’t know if you have these folks in
Germany…trying to promote their religion, but
here in the US, I think most people sorrt of cringe
when they see them coming and try to avoid them.
But it turned out to be such a wonderfully lovely
exchange of beautiful thoughts of “the Truth” … I
was so grateful for the sharing and they were, too.
Love is Love when expressed in such thoughtful
and caring ways. Our differences actually melded
into One blend of harmony, where each were in,
our own ways trying to make it a better world.

          1. Yes, Carol, we have also such people who will tell you about the mormones etc.
My stepfather once talked with them at the doorstep. But I must say that I thanked them and said that I have my own religion and they went off. ,♡

  7. Thank you Evan! What a Blessing each post here is… want to add my huge amount of gratitude to the others expressed here! Thank you for all the Love always expressed here… by you and everyone!

  8. How wonderful to find this post today… I love the many comments (as always) I’m so grateful for everyone’s contributions to our daily inspiration! Thank you J for the perfect complementary article.
As Carol’s experience, I hope & try to be open to ideas which come from everywhere. This morning I was feeling extremely low, and then turned the page on a calendar (from my veterinarian) & read this message: “The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace” Exodus 14:14. Wow! That made me stop my fearful, fretful worrying …. This was certainly a direct message from God to me & Exactly what I needed. I looked it up in the Bible and read the preceding verse (Moses speaking):
“Fear you not, stand still, and see the salvation of the lord, which he will show you this day”
Mrs. Eddy tells us that inspiration comes to us in many ways, and we know this is true ~from song lyrics, conversations, bumper stickers, calendars, notes from friends~ the specific & exact message arrives to our expectant & prayerful searching ~ from The ever present still small voice.

My grateful heart thanks every dear SpiritViewer
    Thank you, Evan

    1. You Are loved, dear Annie! Coming here proves it! Thank you so much
for sharing the calendar experience. I love when just the right thoughts
come to us when we need them the most. The quote that “The Lord shall
fight for you” / us is wonderful and True and our peace is heaven – sent to
us through His angel messages in so many ways as you mentioned. Lovely!
      Lots of love to you!

  9. Thank you Evan for this conversation. My thoughts exactly! The worlds children are under attack in many horrendous ways, sometimes being preyed upon by strangers and sometimes by their own families. We need to keep them in our prayers for our world.
