I’m very thankful for my Christian Science wife who reminds me daily, by her actions and conversations, how grateful we are as Christian Scientist and for the works of Mary Baker Eddy. Every day thankful prayers and gratitude
I am everlastingly grateful that my grandmother, then my mother, made sure we were brought up in Christian Science. And THAT makes me happy because I do not feel as if my life is out of control …when something unexpected happens, I KNOW God has something for me to learn .
Thinking about the statement that Evan gave us, brought to mind what Mrs, Eddy
said about the material senses getting things upside down. One could see people
to be happy because they have won the lottery, or for all the material things that
they enjoy, but not give a thought to being grateful. But this seeming happiness
is not lasting. It can all fade away if something or someone deprived them of these
matter-based desires..
However, if we really appreciate all the beautiful and
harmonious evidences in our lives, understanding they are all spiritual, given
freely to us of God to enjoy, we can’t help but feel truly grateful, for these gifts multiply
when we recognise them as God-created and supplied by our all-loving
Father-Mother God. Mrs. Eddy says that gratitude and love should abide in our
hearts every day. This is worth more than all the riches that the world would draw
our attention to and try to lure us into believing in them as desirable.
As we read in the Bible, Jesus often gave thanks to God before the
blessings of healing and supply were made manifest, because he knew
the God was supplying all our true needs all the time, and his gratitude
to God made them manifest to everyone.
I too, am grateful that my grandmother introduced my earth parents to Christian Science and they
followed thru with making sure that us 3 boys attended Sunday School. So grateful to Evan for
Spiritview. Also grateful to my loving wife (not a Christian Scientist} for having encouraged me to take class instruction.
As Evan shared in a recent blog all the reasons he loves Christian Science, I have to echo that sentiment. I cannot imagine navigating the many changes and upheavals in my life without that “still, small voice” that always came to me in just the way I needed it when I was on my knees in prayer. The ideas illuminated in Science and Health by our leader were an ever-present source of help and healing.
My mother received Christian Science from my dad’s mother and she ran with it even when early in her marriage, there was no easy outlet to call for help and she had to wait to get to a pay phone to call a practitioner.
I will be forever grateful for her courage in sticking with Christian Science, for my CS teacher, for the wonderful practitioners who became my refuge in the storm and for more healings than I could ever hope to remember, even though I often write them down in a journal.
Thanks to Evan for years of inspiration and to all who share so generously here from the heart.
Like a painting .. forever beautiful, never Out of Mind. Christ and angels, Mindful,
shaping our Lives, and beams Love over the seeming playground of fear.. ,or doubt
playing 2 sides against one another when All is One, bountiful, generous, beholding ..
the Wind in Her fist .. holding our hand in the other and Heavens perfectly in place…
Peace, YES , so humbly thankful for Happiness
I am forever grateful to God for providing Christian Science in my life. A neighbor took me and my three siblings to and from Sunday School for many years. No one else in my family stayed with Christian Science, but it has been my rock and my reason for existing. I am grateful every single day for this great gift.
Katherine thank you for sharing about your early history with CS. It’s great to hear that you’ve stuck with it even though the rest of your family did not.
Your statement that CS is your ‘rock and your reason for existing’ is inspiring to me. In the Bible Lesson last week was Psalms 27:5, “….He shall set me up upon a rock.” Usually that meant to me that He lifts me up high to get a clearer view, where material strifes can be seen though as unreal. I got an added meaning this time that He “sets me up” or establishes my conditions, puts everything in place for me, upon a rock (a strong, reliable foundation). Love seeing deeper into things when I take time to ponder and listen.
I must admit, I was feeling anything but joyful this morning. In needing groceries,
I just wasn’t in the mood to hear cheerful Christmas music throughout the store.
When a country western song played, it was almost too much. Despite getting
scolded by the cashier for “piling” a few of the items on the register, the store
was filled with busy folks being friendly and needed this boost of Good-will to
share…Riding home, although a bit slippery, was like being in a snow globe of
nature’s/God’s beauty. God’s Love is all around, even when we sometimes feel
it isn’t.
Being thankful for this treasure of lovingkindness and truth shared here and
with the uplift of thought with Christian Science, we do have the knowledge
of divine Mind that sets us free to rise above the mortal sense of things that
can seem so sad, at times, when we need it most. I am very thankful for the
love shared here.
So grateful for being a part of the awesome community of great thinkers whether in Christian Science Church, online, Camp, Sunday School, Principia, or reading SpiritView. Thank you to everyone especially Evan who contributes to this powerful force for good.
Yes Candace thank you for, “the awesome community of great thinkers.” Mrs. Eddy said in the preface of S&H, “The time for thinkers has come.” I think perhaps you are a ‘younger person’ as you reference camp, Sunday school and Principia. It makes me happy when I see younger folks embracing and carrying forth the wonderful Science that has so much to offer the world.
Simply put, the way I see it is that if we are grateful to God, not just for the good we have
already received, but for the good we seem to lack, This brings us more into line with what God is already providing for us., and this brings it to light. Mrs. Eddy tells us that God knows our every need before we ask Him, and is already supplying it. He knows our true needs better than we do ourselves, and happiness is part of it.
God made us to be happy and joyful, and to glorify Him. Jesus often gave thanks
to God before he healed, and this revealed the perfect man supplied with all good. This is true happiness, and it is spiritual. and not material. It is all that springs from eternal Love –
i.e. goodness, gentleness, peace, purity, harmony, selflessness, etc..- abundant good for all –
for sharing freely.
Wishing a happy Christmas to Evan and family, and
all this SpiritView family. A big thank you to all who contribute
and enjoy the sharing of goodness and love.
That was a lovely comment, dear Maggie. Thank you and a happy Christmas to you and
all, also. The eternal Love qualities that you mentioned are wonderful attributes to
strive for. What a marvelous world it would be if everyone exhibited these truly innate
characteristics in everyday life. If 8 billion of us would share and partake in these
Christ-like values, war and crime would cease, and there truly would be happiness
and Peace throughout the world. Respect for each other would be foremost, without
anyone trying to be above anyone else in social, economic status and God’s perfect
children would all live in harmony. This time of year seems to bring out the best in
folks. The important thing is to try to live these qualities all through the year.
