A Higher Form of Work

This quote caught my attention,

“When I work I relax; doing nothing or entertaining visitors makes me tired.”

~ Pablo Picasso

I can relate. The most enjoyable times are when my mind is engaged with inspirational spiritual truths that lift thought higher and higher. Conversations with visitors can certainly allow for this to happen, but it often doesn’t.

The above is also a reminder that labor can be fun and relaxing. It doesn’t have to be drudgery, routine or boring. That’s a choice we make.

True work is a worthy life-purpose fulfilled. It’s an activity that has meaning and purpose. It’s up to us to find that meaning and purpose and live true to it. Christ has led the way.

When motivated by the pursuit of spiritual ideals, work is fun, dynamic, engaging, even thrilling. And it never grows old. I pray that you find the right kind of work that thrills your soul and keeps you happily engaged too.

  1. As Kahlil Gibran observes in “The Prophet”..When you work with love you bind yourself to yourself and to one another and to God”

  2. The greatest relaxation for me is to think. For not to think and just go by the flow leads to displeasing thoughts which could wind up in disease, sin or death.

  3. Thanks for this! It’s so true, when I am engaged in productive activity, I am happiest. Balancing that with ongoing health challenges can be, well, challenging. Of course, spiritual study can fall under this category, and it blesses everyone! I have not been able to “work” for a number of years, but do things here and there when I can, such as making jewelry – and always try to help out when I can, including sharing CS with others. And as the material picture of health challenges falls away, God is showing me the way to productive work! I was recently led to serve in the Reading Room of my church, which also meant applying for membership. I don’t always get clear guidance, but this time I did. I am hoping to be the new librarian, but if that doesn’t work out, at least to volunteer. I can’t think of a better way to be productive, and put God’s gifts to good use!

    1. Dear Ellen, I love how you yielded to God’s leading…blessings will flow! Open the gates! And what a blessing to that Reading Room you must be! Godspeed. (=

  4. Dear Ellen & Rhonda, I was moved by both of your entries. Dear Ellen for her ‘up’ attitude and her positive giving action, and dear Rhonda for such a supportive note. Joined together in the one Mind.
