If you’ve ever wondered how to love an enemy as Jesus Christ taught his followers to love, here’s an article I wrote for my local newspaper that explains how I practiced this instruction when faced with a very angry man.
Published April 12, 2026, in the Tri-City Herald, “In the face of anger, he chose ‘Love your enemies.’”
Oh Evan: so clear, so calm, so powerful – I am profoundly grateful.
Lovingly, Gillian
After a harrowing experience with another driver’s rage, I was left emotionally distraught and in tears. This is quite the turn around in thought meeting my need today.
I give up. I can only get so far, and I keep getting instructions to
click here, and click that, and so it goes on and I
can’t get past the part when you are told to
“love him”. I assume that Love did the work and all
was well, and the man was transformed. Ir goes
very well with this week’s Lesson. Than you Evan.

Thank you, Joanne – I will try it.
Success – thank again Joanne.
A wonderful example of how to face aggression, and
prove its powerlessness. I am sure that man must have
at least begun to think more on what happened to his
anger in the face of the love that Evan reflected toward him.
It must have turned him turned towards the truths that were
shared in the Lecture, and perhaps begin to think that this
was something he really needed to know.
I am unable to read article without being prompted to subscribe to the newspaper.
Very beautiful, Evan, and a wonderful lesson for me. Never let the appearance of hate leave a scar on our hearts.
Anger, as with anything that needs healing, is just a void in one’s thinking about the truth.
Your response demonstrated that filling that void with Love and an invitation of friendship proved that the absence of something does not make it real or have any power. And I believe it was MBE that wrote; “Friendship is the purest expression of Love”.
Truly fantastic that your articles are printed in the newspaper for all to read. Love it!❣️
“Hate Your Enemies or Love Your Enemies?” By James Early:

Thank you J, very good article; perfect fit with the one Evan shared with us today. You’ve mentioned James Early a few times, but I’m just now looking into his writings so thanks for that too.
Also loved the last line, which seemed like almost an afterthought but really got my attention:
–“And while you’re at it, pray for some of the enemies on the world stage to find love for one another.”
When I’ve prayed about world affairs I never quite thought of it that way, so it opened a new train of thinking on that topic.
J, thank you for this article. I was happy to read the verses in the Old Testament where it said to not hate enemies. I thought of another one. When Solomon became King and prayed for wisdom, everyone remembers that God made him wise and very rich because he didn’t ask for riches for himself. But God actually said it was THREE things that Solomon didn’t ask for that pleased Him. One of them was that he did not ask for the life of his enemies.
When I first went to a church there seemed to be a division. There were strong feelings on either side because people loved Christian Science so much, they were afraid the other side was going to do it harm. One day I walked into a reading room and the attendant there started in on vigorously criticizing others. She kept stepping closer and closer to me demanding that I agree with her. I said nothing out loud, but was vehemently thinking “this is not even touching her.” It could not even touch the loving thoughts the divine Mind was shaping her with. Suddenly she stopped, blinked and seemed startled to find she was inches from my face. As she had been asking “don’t you think that’s terrible?” she quickly said ,”don’t answer that” and took a step back. Then a few more. “Just go and read what you came in for” she told me. I saw hypnotism as clearly as I had ever seen it—a lie about us. Truth divine destroyed the lie of fear and anger in an instant. And I had my first step in learning that whether it’s a church, family, friendship, or country, the only way to progress is to go together (in our OWN thinking) and only the dear love of God can accomplish this, as Evan so clearly said, not with anger from us, but with love from God.
Kay thank you for that vivid account of how the mesmerism was unmasked and the person “woke up” through your clear prayer/recognition of Truth. Great work!
Thank you Evan. Your experience made me think of an article by Barbara Vining.

I have been praying this way this week.
Let not human opinion rule but let rather let the government of Almighty God govern the thoughts and actions of our world leaders and bretheren. .
Thank you very much dear Evan for the wonderful simplicity with which you explain your healing experience with a seemingly hateful man, witnessing that in God’s omnipresence there cannot be hate, rather only God’s pure Goodnes and Love and harmony. And that’s what was expressed at the end when he went away calmly. That article is expressed so clearly that everybody can understand it . It’s very helpful and I’m utmost grateful for it .Wow, it’s so important in today’s World situations to love our socalled enemies, amd in reallity there are no enemies as we are. a l l. loved children of our Father-Mother God!
Wonderful healing message Evan, thank you. What blessed one, blessed all. Thank you
