Independence Day

July 4, 2014 | 10 comments

It’s Independence Day in my country, a popular holiday celebrating a declaration of independence from foreign domination in 1776 by thirteen colonies that formed into the United States.

From a spiritual point of view, it’s rife with symbolism.

Is there any evil domination in your life you’d like to see vanquished? Then declare your independence from it. Submit to God, not to suffering, and live free!

“Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: “Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!” Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the “glorious liberty of the children of God,” and be free! This is your divine right.” Science and Health, p. 227.

Happy Independence Day!

  1. The whole world cries for freedom! What if….all of us today prayed for freedom for the 300 Christian girls kidnapped in Nigeria? Could we be like the Church in the New Testament that “prayed without ceasing” and whose prayers freed Peter from prison in a most miraculous way?

  2. The 4th of July is a day for celebration. For it is this day that we reflect what God has done for this country way back in 1776 that reverberated into a freedom attitude that spread through out the world. Even now with Christian Science backing it, it clings to those wishing and hoping for peace and good will to men regardless of beliefs. It is really a universal holiday in it’s spiritual signifignance.

  3. What an appropriate blog and S&H quotation. Sometimes we read and read a paragraph and don’t pick up totally on the word “Liberty.” Thank you for this clear lead in statement re our true Independence Day.

  4. Happy Independence Day to you too, Evan! Thanks for your blogsite where we find continuous insightful stories and quotes – a treasury of spiritual ideas about spiritual emancipation from the nonsense of material illusions. Just to accept all the “glorious liberty” is the eternal quest. Thanks for your glorious part in helping so many of us to see God more clearly and accept our freedoms.

  5. Thank you for this JOY FILLED Reminder. Having lived in several countries …and having returned to The United States of America…I thank GOD for each moment I am here…When one travels throughout the United States, through our National Parks, through out cities, towns, hamlets…through the North, South, East and West…OH how blessed we are to have the FREEDOM to go anywhere. We are a model to so many other countries who are emerging from dictatorial, tyrannical form of government. Let us take a moment to see ALL the GOOD and know that those who wrote the Declaration of Independence were inspired by a HIGHER POWER ,for me it is GOD. And Yes, there is SO Much to be Grateful For!

HAPPY FOURTH OR JULY…..LET US CELEBRATE…EVERY DAY!

  6. Amen, and Amen. BUT, let us not overlook the growing need for tactical
INTER-DEPENDENCE on each other and the rest of the world. Earth is getting crowded and resources more costly. Cooperation, coordination, justice, love for all mankind are central to Christian Science, and essential in the evolving technological world.
My wife says, “God Bless the whole World, No Exceptions”
Especially on the 4th of July. And like the MONITOR, “seek to bless all mankind”
