Keep disease out of thought

May 9, 2023 | 21 comments

Disease is always induced by a false sense mentally entertained, not destroyed. Disease is an image of thought externalized.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 411

Images of disease held in thought may show up as pictures of disease imaged on the body. If you don’t want to see it on the body, keep it out of thought!

Keep thought so filled with spiritual truth, that impressions of disease have no place to sneak in and take up residence.

  1. Thanks Evan.
This reminds me of Mrs. Eddy wonderful admonition — and I love the fact that we’re not the only ones blessed by guarding our thinking, but all whom our thoughts rest upon are, too!

“Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.”
(The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 210:2)

  2. This morning’s bright and cheery cup of delightful flowers
along with the declaration of Truth reminds me that a
friend/neighbor/passer by, (or even oneself) is one who
overlooks your broken fence and admires the beautiful
flowers in your garden. In this case a “broken fence”
could be any imperfection, disease, that Seems to be,
but in God’s realm of Perfection is not true.
In keeping beautiful flowers or any thought of God’s creation in
Mind, there is no room for lack of ease (dis – ease), or illness or
    inharmony of any kind.

  3. Oh, thank you Evan for this wonderful reminder, something I really have needed for the last few days… thank you Mike, for including Mrs.Eddy’s instruction; thanks to Carol for her note that we don’t need to see imperfection at all when what we are looking at is God‘s perfection. Of course, this “perfect view“ was what Christ Jesus had at all times. Isn’t it wonderful that we were told that we can let this mind be in us which was also in Him? Thanks be to God or Christian Science !

    1. Thank you, J – very good analogies in this article – and if I had read it before I posted the
thoughts that cane to me about our thoughts coming from God, I would not have posted mine.
This passage of course is included in the article. It is a good one to share with people who
are trying to understand that we are ideas, and not physique, and I have someone in mnd to
      share it with.

      1. I always love your insightful comments Maggie, so thank you for sharing them. And good that you shared them, as some people may skip the article.

  4. Since we always have to be thinking of something, we need to
choose healthy thoughts and stay with them. This citation
from Science & Health pg.284 helps me to remember to
listen for God’s thoughts and to reject what is not good as
    not coming from God.

“Thought passes from God to man, but neither sensation nor report goes from material body to Mind. The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man.”

Matter has no ability to think or transmit anything to us – it is
mindless and inert. Let’s then gather all our thoughts from
the divine Mind and be watchful of what we accept as our
own thoughts. This will helps to keep us healthy and disease-free,
reflecting the beauty of the Lord.

  5. To me the so called human mind is the most critical part of the body to hold in check. Mrs. Eddy’s many admonitions, throughout her writings on controlling initial thinking when confronted with a new situation or even an inclination that could lead to erroneous or sinful thoughts we must “…..stand porter at the door of thought…..”.

  6. Thank you Evan for your wonderfully liberating message today. What a blessing to read your post and the Spirit Viewer’s comments this morning after struggling with a false sense of dis-ease throughout the night. J your referral of the insightful article “Some thoughts on thought” is a penetrating reminder that the body is just a material “thought form”, an illusion, and that “neither sensation nor report goes from material body to Mind.” (MBE) And that since my real identity is “Mind’s consciousness of itself” in which there is no material sensation, I can turn from the aggressive suggestions of the fake material mind and tap into the reality of God’s allness. Soul feels only it’s own perfection and ease, and this is all that is real.

Thank you all for your inspired contributions that encourage and support Christian Science healing,- and special thanks to J for your loving and helpful research. I feel so embraced in the love expressed by this devoted Spirit View family!

    1. Linda thank you for your comments and I echo your appreciation of J who takes the time to select and share wonderful articles with us. We are all embraced in the love of this SV community and I am very grateful. Just dwelling on the love expressed here by Evan and by all the readers and commenters can fill our thought with good and serve as that “impervious armor” which “shields us from the attacks of error of every sort.”

      1. I agree, Rose and Linda. Evan’s initial spiritual contributions of such
varied, relevant and helpful topics, with the additional researched
articles and comments are of such Love shared and so appreciated.
It is so heart-warming and comforting to come here and partake of
these treasures. We are all so very blessed to have this wonderful
venue to express our thoughts and learn from each other. Lovely
in every way! It is like a spiritual oasis throughout the day.
Thanks, also, to whomever chooses the photos which
compliment each topic, which adds to the meaning of each
theme and to the beauty of the site, both visually and spiritually.
Thank you Evan and Everyone for being here! : )

  7. Thank you, Evan, and all you commenters,,, a good friend heard this definition of matter many years ago at a lecture – “Matter is neither malicious nor delicious, it is just fictitious”

  8. Thank you dear Evan for this important and loving admonition. However when I let in the wrong thoughts in an inattentive moment it seems to be not so easy to get rid if them, and I have really to do strong prayerful work to know error’s nothingness. But therefore I am very grateful for Christian Science which teaches us the divine Truth that heals every ailments, for our good God is our understanding and governing us harmoniously and lovingly!!!
Evan, I can’t thank you enough with words for your healing and comforting SpiritView combined with all the inspiring and interesting comments, thanks very much to all SV friends!♡♡♡

  9. Thank you, Evan and All! I so appreciate the blessings-filled ideas expressed in SV. It always uplifts my thought and now I eagerly look forward to reading the Bible lesson this morning (Wednesday here in Portugal) with fresh eyes). I never had total clarity about the word/phrase ‘thought-form’, After reading the Louis Benjamin article, I do! Today, my inspired. anchoring, spiritual-reminder thought for throughout the day is the question to myself , “What ‘form’ of thought is this one?” I AM standing porter as God’s daughter!!
    Thank you all, again!!

    1. Barbara the link worked perfectly, thank you. That was a short, beautiful testimony about what it means to be God’s idea.
