Last pictures of Australia

I finished lecturing a week ago, last Friday evening, in Melbourne, and Kathy and I hopped on a plane Saturday morning and spent the weekend in Sydney before flying home Monday morning.

We attended First Church of Christ, Scientist, Sydney, Sunday morning, and were welcomed by many new friends I had made three weeks earlier while lecturing in Sydney.

One member invited us to his home after church for lunch and a walk along the ocean to see harbor ocean views. We accepted, and had a grand time.

The Sydney harbor and surrounding region is stunningly gorgeous on a sunny day.

Watson Bay
We took a ferry from Watson bay back to the Circular Quay near our hotel in Sydney and ferried right past the Opera house. This architectural wonder is so impressive, I couldn’t help but share a few more pictures of it.

Sydney Opera House

The Opera house venue is a very popular public gathering place, with hundreds of people idling time away, milling around, soaking in the scenery and patronizing the restaurants.
The architectural inspiration behind the design of the Opera house is a fascinating story. The architect worked years to see the current view in his mind before a plan went to paper. It’s quite a lesson in geometry and patience.

Here are two bronze plates that explain the origin of the curves and shapes that make the concert halls so distinctive.

I couldn’t help but snap this picture of bats hanging from a tree in the botanic gardens. They are so huge! Some were wiggling around and shrieking nerve wracking noises at times. Made people a bit jumpy.

Imagine having this tree in your yard on Halloween.

Well, that’s about it for pictures coming from my Australia trip. We took hundreds, but only a few are worth passing on. You got to see a few. Hope you enjoyed them.

  2. You bet that I loved the pictures you put up and the commentary. It was great to see where you were.

Australia and New Zealand are on our future itineraries, maybe even this year, so it was good to get a foretaste.

  3. I too have tracked your adventure and enjoyed it so much. Not only the scenery but the spiritual hunger also. I sense possibly less materialism cluttering their view than in the States? Maybe too general of a statement. Have you ever read Mutant Message Downunder? Can’t think of the author right now but a very interesting book on the Aborigine walk about and healing. I couldn’t put it down till done. Love the spirit of all you’re doing. Sher

  4. Evan, thank you for taking us to Australia and New Zealand with you. Do you know where your next lecture trip will take you? Wherever, I am looking forward to the articles and photos.

  5. It’s been good to see not only how blessed your audiences were (including your blog readers)but you too! Mary

  6. Thank you Evan, for all the pictures. I loved them, as well as the spiritual insights.
I too read Mutant Message Downunder, its one of those books that I think about often. I highly recommend the book, healing is a big part of it.

  7. The book “Mutant Message Down Under” was written by Marlo Morgan and it is very moving. The Aborigines are a very spiritual people. I also found it hard to put it down until done. I highly recommend it to you all.
