Learn Through Spiritual Sense

The physical sciences teach us to learn through the physical senses. They instruct us to study atoms, contemplate time and space, look into the ground, and examine the heart, lungs and brain for truth. They rivet attention on the finite and material.

To learn how the universe really operates, though, one must look beyond what physics is capable of revealing, into the realm of the metaphysical.

It takes spiritual sense to discern spiritual reality.

It can take vigorous effort to break the entrenched model of examining matter for truth in order to see things the way God sees them. But we must, “come out and be separate,” as the apostle Paul instructed, to get the facts right and make spiritually inspired decisions.

The ultimate truth of all things is learned through spiritual sense, which we all possess. Be sure to use it!

“Like our Master, we must depart from material sense into the spiritual sense of being.” Science and Health, p. 41

“Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth.” Science and Health, p. 95

“To material sense, earth is matter; to spiritual sense, it is a compound idea.” Science and Health, p. 585

~ Mary Baker Eddy

  1. Indeed! We have to “plunge beneath the material surface of things, and [find] the spiritual cause.” S&H 313:24-26
