“Self-love is more opaque than a solid body.”
~ Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 242
The definition of opaque is “not able to be seen through.”
Here’s a metaphysical angle to consider: If we have more love for God than for self, people will see the presence of God in us. If we have more love for self than for God, people see us instead of God.
To love God is the loveliest thing in the world. God rightfully deserves all our love since HE IS ALL GOOD, ALL LOVING, OUR BEST EVER FRIEND, OUR COMFORTER, OUR PROVIDER, PROTECTOR, OUR ONLY TRUE RELATIVE AT ALL TIMES FOR ETERNITY.
Loving God surely means loving to be good, to do good, to see good in everyone, to forgive, to be selfless. If we love God and give Him the first place in our life, we naturally feel happy and get all His guidance and love. The goodness of God which we express will make people see the presence of God in our life.
Loving and glorifying self all the time, will never really attract much friends or people and such selfish people are always lonely. “The good that you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable.” “Goodness attains the demonstration of Truth”
Thanks Evan for this lovely message.
Thank you, Evan, for the reminder. I’ve always loved working with Page 242 in Science and Health. Love the dear picture too!
This is such an enlightening thought. Thank you Evan and Nergish, for your thoughts as well. It is so true. I have found that people who Live the Truth, shine with the beatific presence of Love and have like an aura about them that radiates this Love to others.
Beautiful!
Thank you Evan, for such a loving picture – and specially for those helpful and needed Truththoughts.
I love the whole passage that begins with this sentence of today`s SpiritView SH 242.
Thank you Nergish for your inspiring and lovely comment 🙂
Such an important and helpful point. And the photo you chose conveys so much. Many thanks to you and other contributors.
Thank you,Evan.I like that way of looking at that statement…shows what is really needed for understanding God’s creation and what man is!
Good morning all What a wonderful photo, that says so much. Who teaches computation is the purest expression of Love. And the lady transmits that in Science there is no age and that no faculty of mind is lost. And Evan and commentators express Love with their hearty thoughts that reflect Love, the only universal remedy. Thank you all. Blessings of Love to all.
There’s an eyebrow popper!
Really essential to remember in Reading Room work!
I’m putting this on the counter next to the ipad.
To have more love for God, is to have more love for what God sees than what I see,
to have more love for the tremendous power of what God knows than what I know,
to have more love for Spirit’s presence than for mine,
to have more love for Truth’s allness than for any personal ability I think I have to meet error.
i remember when a man came in utterly grim and distressed. Everything had been taken from him, including his job and his children. “Don’t talk to me about love!!” he said.
I had, like NO idea how to respond to that, but i knew God did. I heard these words come out of my mouth, “OK. I’m not going to talk to you about love. I’m going to talk to you about power.,”
Eventually I found myself reading to him “Love your Enemies” by Mary Baker Eddy. I read it firmly, with conviction, paraphrasing when needed. At the close he said,
“Well, I guess it’s all about love, isn’t it?”
I asked him if he thought anyone would hire him if his face expressed anger. Would he be trusted? Wanted?
No.
But what if his face expressed love and appreciation? Would he be trusted? wanted?
Of course.
Not just by employers, but by his spouse, by the courts, by his children?
I see! he said. Yes. Yes, of course.
Well that’s what God gives you, the power of Love, and you’ll see it everywhere.
His face was relaxed. He smiled and thanked me, full of hope when he left.
He returned 15 minutes later saying he had a job. He starts the next day.
Tremendous thanks Diane, for your awesome inspiring comments.
And thank you for that testimony in your RR with that man.
As I also work as RR assistant I also sometimes do not know what to say when somebody coming in and does not know anything about CS is asking something. But now I know what to do, namely to listen what GOD says to that person through my attention to God`s thoughts.
Thank you so much, that is really helpful and healing. 🙂
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful example of listening and letting God shine through! Thanks for sharing it. I too find great joy in working in the Reading Room, in particular the opportunities to hear what God wants me to share – and the chance to share about CS in general!
Wonderful Diane!
Thanks, Evan, for sending me the link to all of your blogs after I told you I hadn’t received this one. The link didn’t work yesterday, but I just tried again and was successful.
And thanks to Diane for sharing the beautiful experience she had as an attendant in the reading room. How very grateful that man must have been!
Every word I have read today has been inspiring, and I want to thank you all.
Years ago, my husband and I visited a CS Reading Room needing to pray. As we walked in the door, I noticed a woman standing over near a file cabinet. I could hardly believe what I saw because there was a glow that encircled this lovely person. It was an amazing moment and I couldn’t continue on, but just stood transfixed. Then my husband asked me to walk ahead into the Reading Room.
Later, I inquired about this woman and found that she was the lead Librarian and she also advertised in the local telephone directory as a Christian Science Practitioner. As events happened, our church merged with her church and now I enjoy her friendship as we work together on various committees. Just recently, I told her of my experience seeing the glow around her. She said, my dear, that was Love reflecting Love; our oneness shinning through. At that moment years ago, I recall thinking how I would love to be an inspiration like that, just as she was to me. It begins with seeing ourselves and others as God sees, and by filling our every thought with the qualities of God, and living them all.
Bless you, Evan for all your give in God’s name. You are dearly loved.
