What’s governing your thought today? Mortal mind or divine Mind?
Mortal mind is a demoralized view of reality, rife with reasoning out from a material basis, fearing evil, bowing to disease, and unsure about the future.
Divine Mind is the Mind of God, a Mind that acts intelligently, maintains order, sustains health and guarantees eternal Life, all for our benefit.
Under the government of divine Mind, everything goes better. Helpful ideas come when we need them. The comfort of Love is more readily found. Health is easier to demonstrate. Life is a positive experience.
Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Man, governed by immortal Mind, is always beautiful and grand” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 246).
It is a beautiful life to be governed by divine Mind. And the possibilities for progress and advancing development are endless. They are grand!
Live the Good Life. Live under the government of divine Mind and keep the mental door shut to mortal mind. Everything goes better that way.
I would dearly love to demonstrate this. I have had an issue for 3 years and seem to be mesmerised by it. Several times I was sure I had been healed, but no. I am the only CS in my home and have had to be open about what appears to be going on as my family are upset and fed up. Because I am due to have an op but other symptoms have appeared, I am feeling lost. I love CS it has kept me going but things have come a head and I am unsure what the next step is. Thank you Evan for the wonderful insights and all other contributors who support and comfort.
Dear Caz….you are not alone! Like you, I’m totally alone in my faith and love of Christian Science teaching. The pressure from family..( whom, in their eyes are just showing loving concern ) can be so difficult to push through…
I began with. ‘’You are not alone ‘’ but there is a more fundamental meaning here. Whatever you do, whatever you decide , God is right there with you, guiding , loving and protecting you as His expression of Life.
Mortal mind likes to shout and invade but Divine Mind cannot waver and is constant good.

May I suggest that the hymn “Rock of Ages” is a powerful one to hold onto. But there are many to choose from, and I find them a wonderful way to keep the spiritual facts
uppermost in my thought – the Christlike
thought that brings reality to light, and displaces the lying suggestions of mortal
thought. Healing is revealing.

I found this in some old notes I’d taken….it’s a quote ( ie not my words ) but I don’t know from where. The content is very comforting…
Turning wholeheartedly to God, I asked, “Father, what do I need to know about myself to understand that I am whole?” I
opened Science and Health, and my eyes fell on this passage: “Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free! This is your divine right. The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being” (p. 227). This brought tears of relief—and a glimpse that although it didn’t look like it, all was well. I felt that God was saying, “The material situation is not the true picture. You are Mine, and nothing can ever take away your heritage as My beloved child—free, harmonious, whole, joyous, perfect.”

The Bible does clearly tell us that God is always with us, and Christ Jesus tells us we are one with our Father-Mother as we are His image or reflection. We can never be separated from Him.
In Psalms 139: 7 we read:
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. ….
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
(Psalms 139:7)
I have read many testimonies about people having been taken to hospitals with severe material conditions, even when family don’t trust in Christian Science, and when that person has been praying, particularly with a C.S. Practitioner,
when the time for the operation was due, the doctors couldn’t find any evidence of the problem.
If God didn’t cause it, it had no cause – and so it was demonstrated.
God doesn’t know anything about material
problems of any kind, but He is with us in all situations we find ourselves in, and He knows when we are prayerfully reaching out to Him, and the Christ shines God’s love into our hearts, and that Love dissolves the material illusion of
sickness. Someone may have an article

God isn’t forsaking you. He governs everything about you, including an operation. He doesn’t forsake you. Mary Baker Eddy states in Science in Health that if you are not healed quickly God will lead you into the right use of temporary and eternal means, How could He do anything else since you are His beloved child. Listen for “His” voice not the clamoring voice of mortal mind saying you must have a healing without medicine or you aren’t a good Christian Scientist. It is step by step. I have had instantaneous healings and times I sought medical care with God’s guidance. Each step brought me closer to God as I relied on His omnipotent care throughout the healing including being led to seek medical treatment. He is with us and guides us. Mary Baker Eddy though giving the full statement of Christian Science in Science and Health knew through God there would be times other means would be necessary to get us from point A to point B, which is exactly why she put that passage in the book. Listen to the Love God is showing you. He reveals the angels we need including those to guide us correctly if a healing isn’t coming. He doesn’t want you to suffer.
Thank you Beth for your helpful comments. We sometimes feel so guilty for turning to the medical and feel it makes us bad Christian Scientists, but it’s NOT TRUE! I had to have some x-rays on a very painful knee and did so to stop my non CS husband from worrying. I remember a practitioner once saying to a friend of mine who had to have an op “Do you think God isn’t in the hospital? Well He is right there with you and everyone including the medical staff”. Thank you Evan for this wonderful SpiritView today AND the comments from others. It is most helpful as I seem to be in a temporary position of needing medical attention and was feeling like such a failure. After reading this I am feeling grateful for the people who are so lovingly helping me through this rough patch and knowing “there is not a spot where God is not, and that includes the hospital. Also grateful that during this temporary experience, I have been able to Share Christian Science and have enjoyed seeing such great interest in those who only know about medical ways. That has been a blessing to me because it my greatest joy to share Christian Science with others. Guess what .. they just came in to tell me I can go home today …. days early … now That is Christian Science proving it works for every situation and we can Trust it always!!!!

In reading the comments about being alone as a Christian Scientist, it made be think about Jesus. He was alone with his belief in God. But what did he do? He demonstrated God! And he knew he wasn’t alone, God was with him. Mary Baker Eddy was alone in her discovery of Christian Science, but she too knew God was with her. You feel overwhelmed by the thoughts of those around you, read the Bible regarding Jesus, read the biographies of Mrs. Eddy. I know this always helps me put things in perspective. And it goes back to what Evan was saying….what’s governing your thought today? Immortal mind? Or mortal mind? I love reading SpiritView and seeing others comments. It is a great way to start my day.

Experience has shown that as the sense of God’s allness, presence, goodness is active ….then the whole family is blessed.
In regards to hospitalization (for whatever reason),the sense of Love’s presence and power, the one Mind that is Love- tends to bring peace to family members in relation to Christian Science and their loved one.
When they see Christian Science supporting their loved one right where they are this touch of Christ is FELT by all. Many times family members have expressed sincere gratitude for the communication and support of a CS practitioner under these circumstances. This Christ-touch proves Christian Science is soundly based in Love.

Yes agreed Carol, it’s gratifying to me to be part of this SV community when seeing the pouring out of love and the healing, inspiring truths shared with dear Caz (which every one of us needs to hear).
I’m proud to be walking forward together with all of you. I Love to think of us all pondering and praying on the same topic, as Evan guides us.
I felt led to share this statement, which I’ve been thinking about lately:
“Man is the expression of God’s Being.” (S&H p.470)
After reading Caz’s comment, the thought came to me “what can I do to help?” The idea of the Lord’s prayer then came to mind because Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (page 16) the following:

Our Master taught his disciples one brief prayer, which we name after him the Lord’s Prayer. Our Master said, “After this manner therefore pray ye,” and then he gave that prayer which covers all human needs.

All human needs. I love that! The idea then came to me to put the Lord’s prayer, and the spiritual interpretation Mrs. Eddy gives us on page 16-17 of S&H, in my own words (i.e. write down a paraphrase of what I can think when praying the Lord’s prayer). Below is what came to me and I will be praying this prayer throughout the day today, knowing it will be helpful to not only me, but everyone! Much love to you all!

God! The all-harmonious Source of everything.
You alone we adore and worship (hear and follow).
Your all-harmonious reality is here and always present.
You, God, are the only Cause and everyone and everything reflects You!
How wonderful to know that God, Love supplies our every need, every moment.
And let us know and see the good in others as You, God, see only good in us.
God knows only good, so we as God’s manifestation, have the native ability to discern good from evil and therefore not be tricked into believing evil is real.
Everything reflects God because God is the only Cause (producing harmony), the only Life (manifesting joyous existence), the only Truth (maintaining perfect reality), and the only Love (continuously loving all and supplying nothing but good to all).

How wonderful that these Christianly-scientific facts are available to all, all time. Students of this mighty Science–the complete and perfect statement of Truth to humankind–are those who are applying the scientific facts to the claims of material-belief, and what a joy to do! Whew! Truth eliminates error, like 2+2 is 4 not 5. I try to keep it this simple, especially when feeling confused!
It is helpful, to me, to consider the human,” not as a “bad” state of belief, but transitional, temporary, though in scientific fact we are already God’s ideas, needing no “transitioning”. As I feel yet quite human, I don’t (try not to!) condemn myself for my “human failures.” Truth, after all, for most of us, is a High Mountain! Some seem to run right up it, in wonderful dominion. Most others seem to be walkin’ rather slowly (me!), or even crawling. But, all the while, Truth IS! The truth that we are ALREADY GOD’S PRECIOUS IDEAS! I’m going to stick with this wonderful Fact on the Journey from sense to Soul!! Fun to be climbin’ with y’all!! :<))
Here’s an audio testimony from Judy Olson of the healing of her son inability to walk properly. If you’re able to listen to this great. But I have read comments from some of you that you can’t listen to audios, so here’s a brief summary….
Judy’s son’s condition didn’t yield quickly to CS treatment and Judy went through all of the stages we all go through when we have an experience like that, i.e., frustration, fear, doubt, etc. At her lowest point and wanting to give up, she opened her Bible and read this from 2 Timothy 3:14
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
That really resonated with me too. We can be confident in knowing the truth because it is from God, Truth. True reality (what we learn from our study of CS) is from God. The truth isn’t some humanly made-up idea…it’s God’s idea and therefore we can trust it. Judy explains other healing ideas she gleaned at her lowest point and her son was healed about a week later and Judy realized it when her son ran home from school.

Oh wow! So much wonderful loving support being expressed here today! Thank you Evan for your powerful truths and ideas and for everyone else’s loving and helpful comments and articles. It’s so encouraging as I also am the only Christian scientist in my immediate family and have no church nearby, and have had to go down the medical path to satisfy family members and am still working this all out. It’s so encouraging to read about others knowing we are really not alone.
