Look Closer

There is more good going on around you than you realize.

During a tennis lesson, my coach asked me if I watched the lines on the ball when it was spinning through the air.

I said, “No.”

“Look closer,” he instructed.

He hit a ball at me. I squinted and was amazed at what I saw. I could see the lines on the ball. I could see what direction the ball was spinning. I could better prepare for my next shot.

It’s amazing what you see when you look closer.

People often complain, “Where’s God? Where’s the good to be grateful for? Why doesn’t anyone love me?” But the evidence is easy to find if you look for it.

God is everywhere.

God is found in the smile of a neighbor, a day to live, a thought to think, an inspiration to share.

Notice “the lines on the ball.” Be aware of God’s omnipresence and life’s blessings will not pass you by.

  1. Yes we need to look closer for the blessings which God just showers on us each day, and not take them for granted, as Evan puts it so well. Thanks so so very much Evan. God bless.

  2. “All things work together to them who love God.” To be grateful to God just for being God brings man closer to God. So what! if there is turbelance, so what if things don’t go the way you want it to. Being grateful to God brings one automatically into God’s loving care and power. So quit the complaints, JUST BE GRATEFUL THAT GOD EXISTS.

  3. I started a fresh new Thank You God! gratitude notebook on January 1
this year and it really feels good to start my Day this way. Gratitude is
such a powerful “tool” in our spiritual tool belts, and reveals so much more
of the i-n-f-i-n-i-t-e Good that is present. Thank you for your reminder of this today, Evan.

    Loving SPIRITVIEW, as always,

    Sue K.

  4. Dear Evan,
This is startling and thought provoking! It also shows how our engagement in activities beyond our core study of Christian Science provide fresh ways for God to speak to us, and for us to live moment to moment what we are reading about God’s presence. Thank you.

  5. William A. Buell, C.S.B. wrote an article for the CS Sentinel titled “A token for Good”. It is in the May 8, 1971 issue. He was always reminding us to took for the tokens of Good. It can be found on JSH-Online.

  6. God’s love envelopes us all. All the good there is is ours today. We can see, feel, know, and use it, right now. Thanks for the reminder. We are blessed and can help others see that they are also.
